  1. That saw must be running on high octane fuel , great to see how they work over the pond
  2. Sorry, I do suffer with impulsive turrets syndrome its been a curse all my life and with age it is slowly improving, just couldn't stop myself glad you weren't offended .
  3. I'd be guessing at this point that they are referring to a Geo web type system, which can be laid within the RPA of a tree other than that its 12xstem diameter if its 2005 bs regs, which i think it will still be on the application form , not sure if the new forms have been updated yet.
  4. Totally agree regarding any bracing at all on any tree, its a complete un measurable recommendation, all you are doing is admitting the presence of a defect and guessing the correct prognosis to resolve the issue, as you indicate the 'mechanics' need to be precise and only an engineer could calculate such a system. Its ok on man made structures when they have a calculable ingredient but not woody natural growth of an undetermined and unknown strength. A shake test is not the answer.
  5. Was the base of the tree located next to a verge or foot path ? looks very much like Canis cacas to me , can be very common, only a sniff test would confirm findings.
  6. I assume no ones concerned about the threat of Cryptostroma corticale ? Function loss / Function disruption caused by Abiotic or Biotic factors can be or mimic a drought, water uptake-function, disruption can result also from canopy reductions, or ground level changes. As well as climatic conditions being a trigger for the fungus ,pruning activities and the soil environment equally play important parts. Approximately 90% of all the apparently physically healthy looking Sycamore trees that I have worked on and felled over the years ,have been infected with the fungus. Wood staining, brown retained foliage in winter all provide indications of the fungus. It seems most only conclude findings when at the later stage bark falls off and the more apparent signs are visible. We need to be very careful with our Sycamores, they wont put up with much messing around, at ground level or in the aerial parts of the tree, its always years later when the real consequences of what you have done can be seen.
  7. I market mine as Sustainably sourced-environmentally friendly-organic-green logs
  8. Before you do anything also consider Cryptostroma corticale, it can exist in a latent form for a long time symptoms can develop by stress, this can be from a variety of causes, one of which could be induced by excessive pruning, Sycamores never respond well from pruning.
  9. My feelings are if its a heavy weight chipper for hiring out or contract work with an array of different operators of different experiences as cutters then go for a Bandit , if its owner operator then TW 150 KEEP IT SHARP, follow the service recommendations and when the time comes to trade it in you will be amazed at the values it will still be worth, on the tracked version once the hopper is removed I don't think there is any other chipper in its class or weight that will access such tight openings . Maintenance is easy, i'v had Jensen and TP's and worked with others. Bolt tension is very important on the blades .
  10. Stay away from other brands, this is going to be your main tool, don't scrimp bite the bullet and buy the saw, 201 or a husqy its down to your personal preference, I now have the 150 top handle 10" bar , the new electric husqy with a stihl 10" bar and an old back handle 200 , these are my climbing saws and all 3 have there specific applications, no one saw gets over used . Its all part of your kit, tax deductible, and there to make your life easier.
  11. Winnie the poo , I think i have suggested this reading material before, the authors interpretation of winnie's expectations is quite overwhelming .
  12. Don't know much about the husqy, but a cracking little grinder is the Carlton 900 and if you put the 500 series greenteeth on it you will be well pleased , it eats stumps, I think Liston still do the conversion.
  13. Now come on a woman's opinion is the most important expression that they can have or give, it can to some become an obsession, you on the other hand must learn to appreciated her feelings and more importantly her opinions , just agree with everything she says , then tell her you are becoming to get in touch with your feminine side and understand her feelings completely, YOU DON'T actually have too truthfully feel that way, just tell her that and you should be able to get your end away.
  14. Now come on I feel philosophy moment coming on, tell me more, I am sure that I will be able to offer some words of wisdom
  15. Its all about aesthetics, money, and compliance with the Law. The LA only comply with the Standards when it suits them and when there budget permits . The quality of work shown on the photos is only upsetting to a very small minority of people, it means nothing to the vast majority of people, if you leave the towns for the countryside Joe Farmer normally prunes his trees with a tractor and flail or at least as much as it will reach !!! and no one minds that. The LA's use the Standards as a measurement of expectation, and if necessary as a tool which can be applied in Law. Developers and anyone (except travelling communities) wishing to do anything which may influence or adversely affect the growth and development of a tree should have knowledge of what they are doing and the relevant British Standards . If a tree does not have any legally binding constraints then in reality you can do what you like. You get what you pay for.
  16. The tree has now almost developed as two trees and the split has recovered well and developed substantial adaptive growth and developed new supportive roots, look at the base of the split and rather than it continuing down into the grown a new root collar has developed from the base of the split which must have produced adequate anchorage to support the tree as it is now. With the absence of any fruiting bodies or pathogens I would still say leave alone or go with Tonys recommendation, soil fill and pollard.
  17. That is the best recommendation so far,the tree would then be good for a good number of years, like your thinking Tony
  18. Leave it alone, its done ok to date, 5837 category R or U as it is now , enjoy it as it is, spend your time and money on selecting a really nice tree with good form and plant it as a future replacement , if the Ash lasts 10 more years when it fails then think of pollarding it and you will have an established tree already in place.
  19. I'd say if you can give it away do that, it must be the worst wood to try and get rid of. NO VALUE
  20. I like that is a whopper, even if your as tall as me Its difficult scaling from photographs and also ,not all Limes enjoy the freedom to achieve there true potential , to develop to a size or mass unrestricted and where targets permit . Open growing away from roads and foot paths where hard surface coverings and underground services can often restrict the potential of a tree is the best place or other wise best practice seems to be pollarding, Its also ironic that some/most of our oldest trees have survived as veterans because of pollarding or ex stream natural fracture .
  21. Yep, thats what i was trying to say, seems to work fine and always cuts well. I did think there would of be more owner operator members on here ? with advice.
  22. OK, but how tall is Tony ? my height
  23. £1 and you will have to deliver it
  24. OK, I'l give you 25m on Tony's but not a cm more, thats 82feet They always look bigger than they are, a bit like fish and penis's so I wasn't that far out
