  2. heres a couple of my recent playings with wood, never been happier than now. small chunky spalted sycamore table, just waxed, and same with oak table, both sold, now mrs misses the oak one so much have to make a mark two for keepers!
  3. nope! Ganoderma applanatums, yes comatus and trametes versicolour losing your touch old bean!
  4. Hi, there is nothing more satisfying than cutting ones own timber and getting something of use from it. Ive been milling, and now turning for just over a year now. I would suggest taking the best three or four slabs out of the middle, these will be quarter sawn at this point, and the top and bottom slices left thick these make ideal bowl blanks, or flip them over and you have the top of a bench. This for me makes the most of the timber, and iof the top and bottom become bowls that sentimental value can be shared with family and friends.

  8. absolutely no need to justify your work on this Steve, thats a top job mate, but you know that anyway. There is nothing more that can be done with such trees, bloody awesome job fella.
  9. I am dying to get my hands on some myself, not one commonly felled. I think I may have felled three in 30 years! oh the waste, all a learning curve, that bowl looks awesome

No 2 days are the same for me now, was a fullti e climber for 28 years then sold the house bought some milling kit a lathe a thickness-er and planer etc etc been making bowls tables and other things three or four days a week while still keeping my hand in climbing, I love my life right now, but then I always did, just following my heart,
  12. I know a lot of folk, far more than i can know close, i have hundreds of friends, and scores i can call close, but only a handfull can i say make me hurt when they hurt. Until such time this stops choking me thats all i have to say, feeling you bro, you know where i stand.
  13. the interesting thing is to the right you have brown oak, fistulina, with laeti to the left, just goes to illustrate my theory on growth stimuli via fistulina
  14. just cleaned the worst of the white rot on the edges so bit of playing but essential was tree like in form
  15. its a one inch thick slice of an oak burl, 3-4 ft across drying out ready to oil anf finish as a wall hanging in my new stone barn workshop
  16. Just stopping by for a look see, nice work guys, aint the turning life the best! should have started 20 year ago
