  11. We do a dangerous job, fear is a good thing as long as its a balanced fear. Like others have said, being too confident is as bad as being unconfident. A little slip like this will help guide you, get back in the saddle and move forward, we all have a wobble now and then. I had to rope down a big old poplar last week, I knew it was heavily decayed, as two limbs had torn out historicaly on one side. The other side all leaned over a drainage canal, hence the rop off. I kept it as light as I dare, everybit gave me confidence too, as the tree was lightening off with each piece. We got it to a stem and put my land and mates 7.5 ton truck on it to pull it into the playing fields. When it hit the deck it exploded and I got to see a strip of living cambium holding the whole thing up was just about 2-3 inches thick! That shook me to my core, I said thats the last rotten tree i do like that without a MEWP. We need a shake down once in a while, its a reminder.
  12. So much Laetiporus about at the moment, great years for it. Found me a Porcini patch too!
  13. So after a 400 mile round trip to Northwest defenders (Ryan is a great guy and straight as they come) we now have two! I am cleary mad as hatter! So heres the girls, lots of work to do on the 110 but mostly panel and cosmetics. Im a happy man! now for the roof rack roof tent and a few other tinkerings, then 4x4/camping/kyaking/fishing/hunting/sustainable living etc etc etc holidays on offer in Bulgaria!
  14. Horse chestnut? polyporus squamosus? probably, leaf miner and Psuedomona added to the mix I never like making these decisions, heres one I did an emergency fell on over the weekend, two stem historic lim failures (so an Aesculus habit) P. squamosus at 30 ft at old wound site massive limb lower down historic limb loss. Psuedomona strip canker at union. To make the decision easy it was leaning over an entrance gate to an estate, the gates electric, they sat right under the tree while waiting for the gates to open, over a hundred peoplea day using it, was only one way to go.
  15. This ones a new species for me, Lentinellus ursinus, on tsuga log Watford. 48 records on the FRDBI. Thats what i call a good find!
  16. Were off to Lancs tomorrow to get a 110, photos to follow! whooop whooop cant wait, long drive back at 50mph though!
