  1. Been messaging this one for a while about a B I N price for the trailer. Usual story, free delivery to anywhere in the uk, ebay's playing up, etc. who knows, they may be genuine !!!! Forestry Timber Crane Trailer, timber grab, log, rotator, wood, hiab | eBay
  2. in Feb of this year i was in the shower, about 6pm ish, when the two Cockers in the yard start going off their heads. Jumped out and pulled a robe on to find that 3 fellas in our yard helping them selves to gear from our container. (it wasnt locked, it was only 6pm !!! i was going in there after my shower to make some chains) Went flying up the garden shouting and picking up gravel from the drive to throw at them. They legged it over the 6' fence at the top of the garden, i stopped at the fence and was leaning over shouting all sorts of obscenities at them when one of them stopped and pulled a proper Jim Bowie type knife and told me ( in a quaint Irish accent) in no uncertain terms where he was going to put it if i came out of the house the next time they called. I loved this and told him only a daft ***** would bring a knife to a gun fight, in fact if he wanted to give me five mins to put some kecks on he was quite welcome to jump over the wall with his mates. if he could get through me he could help himself to the gear !!!! Didnt take the offer up I'm not a hard man, but Mr AYA with 50 grain BB cartridges is !!!
  3. Have you actually found a pair? I'd love a pair for when I'm log splitting. Currently using the earphones from the phone, just wedge them under my helmet cans Sent from bed using Arbtalk Mobile App

  5. Hi Alec, I'll PM you when I get home. I've heard some horror stories about drying Pear. Anyone got any advice? Sent from bed using Arbtalk Mobile App
  6. I think £100 a day for van and chipper, plus your wages, is fair for you both. Just do him a proper written quote, stressing that any damage or breakdowns during his 'hire' time is his responsibility. If this is acceptable to him make sure he signs the quote as accepted. £500 a week buys you a lot of kit to get yourself off the ground. Good luck bye the way
  7. As you can see its very straight timber. If no ones interested I'll mill it myself and try not to butcher it. Sent from bed using Arbtalk Mobile App

  9. Hi all, Just started a new site. Loads of timber to come out. Took a very large pear tree out today The butt is about 4' long and about 28" round although the heartwood is pulpy. There are 3 lengths at 4mts long minimum dia. is 12" and a piece about 18" dia. that's about 5' long. Also on site are 3 80' black pop's. loads of very straight wood in it. Anyone interested in taking it straight from site for milling. Also, anyone have any idea what it's worth ? Thanks on advance. Dave Sent from bed using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. Yep Pat you're right The old chap was concerned about costs so we chopped it level with the top of the fence. I think I could have used the 880 with the engine turned off and still have got through it in seconds !!!! Lifting it onto the tipper with the teleported, about a quarter of the log powdered away to nothing. Sent from bed using Arbtalk Mobile App

  13. i wasnt sure whether the owner of the new house would have a valid claim off of NHBC. Also, don't root protection zones apply to paved areas ?
  14. Went to look at a job today which looked straight forward to start with. A lady with a large Conny hedge, approx. 30 years old, about 25' high wanted some advice and a price for 50% reduction. A new housing estate was built on the other side of the hedge about 4 1/2 to 5 years ago. The house directly behind the hedge is that close that the tips of the nearest Conny are touching the guttering. The owner of this property is complaining that the roots of the Connys are lifting the slabs in his garden. Ive explained to my client that as she's the owner of the offending roots that she's legally responsible. My clients response was that as the house was built so recently, surely the builder should have made allowances for the existing hedge. Anyone had experience of this ? 15. We did a local school recently. When they rang us for a quote there were 40 /50 trees. The school were to provide tags made by the students so i told them to do 60 or so to be sure they had plenty. They couldn't understand why i was asking for extra money when the total number of trees topped the 100 mark. there were also a couple of areas we'd designated as 'area of young *******' whatever species they happened to be. We're also starting a large ish (for us) job on monday where a large, established tree company has surveyed the site (approx 80 trees) and not tagged. The location map of the site is on a sheet of A4 and you'd need an Electron Microscope to read it. The Surveying tree Co. are happy to provide us with a larger scale plan, and its only going to cost us £250 +vat !!!! Very generous of them.
  16. Not that cheap this time as we've had to buy everything, fencing, feeders, accommodation etc. we've had about £50 worth of food per pig but we've fed loads and loads of free food, veg, fruit, waste bread etc. a mate of mine who knows pigs has told me 5kg's of free food = 1 kg of pig pellets. Butchery costs are quite high £20 per pig for killing £50 per pig for butchering but this does include making hams, sausages, and some bacon joints Well worth it in my opinion. We'll get the next lot next March. Sent from bed using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. We've fattened 4 pigs this year it's been ace. They've got about two weeks left before they meet the butcher Really rewarding both financially and spiritually. You wouldn't believe how many nephews and nieces didn't know where pork, bacon, sausages etc came from. One of them, an eight year old was genuinely upset. He couldn't understand why we couldn't buy our meat from the supermarket like everyone else ! Despite my best efforts to explain quality of life, etc he's adamant that he's not eating meat at the BBQ we're planning after they return in kit form from the butcher. All my daughter is interested in is what flavour the spare ribs are going to be !!! She keeps giving them a squeeze to make sure they're not too fatty Sent from bed using Arbtalk Mobile App
  18. One of our Estate Agent clients has been having problem over the last year at one of their properties. The neighbour at the house wants the tenant to take out a small Sycamore at the bottom of the garden but the actual owner of the house is reluctant. We've been out a few times this year, firstly crown lifted it, then thinned, the finally reduced. Got an email when I got in tonight asking me to go and have a look as the neighbour has today bagged a load of leaves up and thrown them over the fence !!!!!! I know it's legal to 'return' any overhanging branches etc. never had leaves returned though. Anyone had experience of this ? Sent from bed using Arbtalk Mobile App
  19. I'd go for the 440 It'll run a 20" bar far better than one of the 36's Sent from bed using Arbtalk Mobile App
