  1. don't know what you lot would think of me then. I have three vans, two trailers, chipper, stumpy, as well as left over materials, a 40' x 20' Workshop, AND a 20' shipping container !!!! Until recently i kept the tractor, and two agg trailers at home too Our garden runs along the rear boundary of 5 houses. We do keep the noise to a minimum, making sure any noisy stuff, i.e. taking the chipper off its trailer, firing saws up etc. is done in the evening, well before 8pm We've only had one comment about the state of the yard, this from a household with rotting windows, dog mess all over the garden, and ivy growing into the neighbours properties !!! The same bloke objected to our planning app. to rebuilt the 75' x 45' two story barn to hide everything away in. Go figure
  2. Love it if its one or two we'll move it, if the customer is persistent we'll mention it, if the customer is expecting us to clear their sh%t every time we come, we'll charge them for it. only walked off of one job because of poo. my next door but one neighbour ! Large house, lots of cash, 5 BIG dogs = lots and lots of dog eggs. We do their hedge work, twice a year, plus any tree work. The wifes team do the gardening every fortnight throughout the year. I went round and explained the situation and their take on it was that it was our job to clean it up. Thats fine, as long as you're prepared to pay Nope, they wern't so we walked off the contract. After numerous gardening firms came and went they now have us back but pay one of the local drop outs £5-00 to pick it all up the day before we go !!!!!
  3. I've just started milling. Bought a 30" Alaskan off Rob D on here. Excellent piece of kit, but i should have bought at least a 36" maybe even larger. I use one of the 880's in mine, flies through most things, the trick is to keep the chain super sharp. Also got a little electric (12v) chain sharpener off Rob, means i can sharpen the chain, perfectly, without taking the mill assembly off the saw. Put your location and ask on here, i had no end of help, one particular chap on here even took me to his wood for a day, supplied loads of timber for me to mill (and cups of tea), and taught me loads. great fun I find the 880 very fuel thirsty when milling, a piece of Aspen i did a few weeks ago was using half a tank per cut !!!! Get an Alasken, you'll love it
  4. i take it thats not on the local council estate. your thatching is very impressive !!
  5. they're at it all the time. Not just tree related stuff, cars, jewellery, my brother has just sold an Omega watch on there, he lost count of the amount of people trying to scam him
  6. A chicken farm we used to shoot on had a big rat problem The guy who ran the shoot built a big bonfire in one of the free range pens, left it for a couple of months. When we lit it, there must have been 150/200 rats come streaming out. The dogs loved it. One of my Cockers got bitten on the nose, left a scar, but no ill effects. She'll be quicker to kill next time
  7. i think the trailers the we used to load for Jenkins were 96mts3 if you made your bay able to hold 120 you should be fine
  8. 200 year old cottage, solid walls, unstoppable damp, more drafts than a drafty place. was using about 2500lts of oil a year for heating and h/w. fitted an open fire in my office, and a 8kw morso stove in the living room. down to about 800lts for this year. we looked at getting a stove with boiler, added the bits up, came to around £3,500 rang 3 HETAS reg. firms up for prices...... The cheapest we could get it supplied and fitted for was £6,500 When asked, the plumber quite happily admitted that he was charging me about £3,000 to £3,500 for the weeks work it'd take to fit it !!!!!!! And people say Tree surgeons are expensive !!!!!!!!
  9. cheers buddy
  10. Its worth about £3500 Had a complete new diff last winter at a cost of £1000 One of the local Agg. engineers has expressed his desire to buy it after christmas Buying a landy as we're doing more forestry work
  11. Postcrete here. As mentioned above, buy it by the pallet. We get ours for around £3-00 per bag + the dreaded. Between 1 1/2 to 2 bags per hole depending on ground conditions. Always use a pinch bar, grafting spade, and post hole spoons to dig the holes. The postmix has gone off by the time you've got the next hole dug
  12. If we're not concerned about weight our transit chip truck holds 9mts3 of chip at most a landy will hold 4. Thats two trips in a landy to our one Saying that, we're getting rid of an 04 crewcab standard sided tipper in the new year and will probably be getting a 110 and converting it to a tipper over the summer
  13. As long as the weathers ok we'll happily come and dismantle it for you. we're VERY cheap on indoor jobs

Hi all, Just a quick one. What CC is an 038av thanks, dave
  15. We had one last Tuesday, moaning that the logs were heavy, so must be wet !!!! Luckily i've just treated myself to moisture meter off fleabay... it was reading 16% in the middle of the log, and 14% at the edge. Kind of makes it hard for them to argue
  16. KELLY KETTLE !!!!!!!! miles better than a flask just ordered the cooking kit for mine
  17. I have a White CSCS card that says Chainsaw Operative, and Tree Climber on the back Also had to take a SSSTC course last year (Site Supervisor Safety Training Course). No card for this just a Cert.
  18. Had a flyer from Travis Perkins through this week Thrown it away, but it basically says that there bulk bags are all 700kg's ( + or - 5% ) A number of years ago i went over a weighbridge with 5 Builders Center bulk bags of Red sand, they were full to overflowing, According to a ministry of transport approved bridge, i had all of 3.1 tons on. this equates to .62 of a ton per bag. Its safe to say they went straight back and a price re-negotiation happened
  19. Just ordered some for me and the lads steve (not sure they'll get the prizes if they win though) Another great job buddy
  20. Rant over, thanks Arbtalk Calmed down now
  21. Hi all, just fancy a quick rant. Got a call yesterday from a chap who's had a house built near to Lincoln, "Hi, you've been recommend to me, can you come give me a price to landscape a house for me, its at (insert village name) (about 30 mins from me). "No problem" says i "I'm off to lincoln delivering logs on Sunday morning, i can meet you then" "Thats great, only we don't get up too early on a Sunday, can you make it 11 o'clock" 10:45 i pull up to the house (i like to be early) and waited.....and waited at 11:20 I text the guy asking how far away he was, his reply Sorry, we're running late, i'll be 20 mins tops at 11:45 i rang the guy, "just got in the car, be 10 mins" :sneaky2: at 12:00 i rang him again " and his reply ??? "You really ought to have more patience " Bugger me, i was fuming I explained to said chap that i had 4 more deliveries to do today, and as a result i had to go, we'd have to reschedule the meeting for another day. He was moaning then that he'd made a special journey !!!!!!! and as he was now only five mins away i could wait for him His tone, and attitude totally p^^sed me off. What made it even worse was when he said "look, if you want the work, you'll wait till i get there, if you don't, go....." "Bye Bye " was all i could manage before i hung up. Prats like this make being self employed hard work. i know its not good customer service, but do i REALLY need customers like this ???? He's tried ringing me, but TBH, if i speak to him at the minute i'll say more than i should
  22. i'll help, if they're elderly or invalided, other than that, life's too short
  23. Just done two days conny trimming in a large school. The Head came to inspect the work when we'd finished "Very nice job thanks, but seeing as its only 3 o'clock and you've got an hour of light left, could you JUST take out those two horrible 30' conifers.(2 or 3 hrs work) i'll get one of the girls to make you a cup of tea while you do it" Me "Err sorry, we haven't got time today, but i can give you a price and do it next time the schools closed" Head "won't you do it for free ????"
  24. would've thought your main problem would be to stop it composting
