Question is...do i say somthing on the site, or would it be seen as me being selfish trying to bad mouth potential competition

  7. Not something i've found, more of a would love to find. The story goes that my grandfather (mothers side) was a bit of a lad in his day. He used to own a pub, and a lodging house, as well as dealing in timber and whatever else he could make a few bob on. He was at an auction with his eldest son one day and bought a chest containing a load of tools. When they got back to the pub and rumaged through the chest, right at the bottom they apparently found a bag containing 30 Gold Sovereigns !!!! Grandad had a bit of a panic, ran round to the lodging house and buried the sovereigns in the Garden (well most of them). This was in the 50's, unfortunately he passed away without telling anyone exactly where he'd stashed the gold. As the Garden was about 2 Acres and now has a DIY shed and a large set of traffic lights on it, i think the chances of me getting my inheritance has passed.
  8. Honda Izy We've had two for about 6 years now and they're brilliant. Service them ourselves, just get the blades balanced every 3 or 4 sharpens.

  16. couple of years ago i was travelling to York to do my PA tickets when i get a call from my cousin ( who i haven't spoken to in about 7 years) who lives in hull. her hubby had been cutting down some conifers in the back garden and had got his saw stuck. could i come and free it for him ? as i had no saws in the van i was in i said i'd call on my way home the next evening. so, rolls up the next day expecting to see a half demolished hedge, only to find that the conifers he's felling are all 40/50'ers into a back garden barely big enough. while cuz put the kettle on i was talking to hubby, saying how impressed i was with his confident felling, goes over to the tree in question to find it held up with a length of washing line, with an ALDI special £30 electric saw jammed in 4/5 of the way through. no felling cut, just a back cut !!!!!!!! best of all this was the fourth tree he'd done. when asked what he did with the brash he proudly told me that they cut it up (him with the Aldi special, her with a hand saw), put it in bin bags and took it to the tip in the car. ended up with me taking the truck n chipper over for two weekends and finishing the job for him !!!!! lol
  17. we had one on friday afternoon local engineering firm rang us a couple of months ago to remove a line of 40' connys at the side of their factory, about 30 of em. gave him the price, which was the cheapest of the three he'd had (his words) but he said it was too expensive. got a call last week, he'd got a mate in to cut 6 of the connys, but could i come and give him a price for chipping it up. when i got there, half of his yard was covered in conny he thought there was about two skip loads, and the skip firm wanted £150 per skip !!!!!! i said for £300 i'd chip and take away....still blustered that we were too expensive, but as i was walking away, he told me to come and do it. we went on friday afternoon, 2 1/2 hrs, and three truck loads of chip later the jobs done and cleared up. as he was paying me he said that his mate was coming to clear another 6 next week, and could i come and chip up when he'd done. at this rate the jobs gonna cost him nearly as much as my original quote !!!!!!
  18. Just moved my transits from trust. dearest one they wanted £1250, cheapest one was £750 shopped round last week one day after getting rained on all morning. eventually got the best quote from Adrian Flux, who i've got my landy with. dearest is the 53 d/cab chip truck, 1 years no claims (new policy) any driver over 25 = £825 cheapest was the 04 d/cab pickup tipper, full n/c, any driver £425 Trusts answer to this was "if we were the cheapest everytime, i'd be a millionaire" PI and EI is due next month, i think i'll be having a ring round
  19. we do a fair ammount of work under CIS scheme. You only need to register if you employ sub contractors on construction sites. If YOU are the subby, the main contractor ( the one who pays your invoice) will deduct 20% of your invoice for Tax. When he pays you, you should also get a remittance advice slip showing the tax you've paid. As said above, this goes to your accountant with your year end books. Basically, the govt. is collecting a little tax money before it should. As good as money in the bank. We've just got our rebate for this year, a cool £3K, holiday spendo's for me...lol A quick tip for anyone new to CIS. If you've had to supply materials, say so on your invoice. i.e. if your invoice is for £5,000 and you've spent £3,000 on materials, hire, anything other than labour charges. you'd put on the bottom of the invoice "for the purposes of CIS £2,000 of the above amount is to be classed as labour charges" that means that instead of them taking 20% of £5,000 ( £1,000 ) they'd only take 20% of £2,000 (£400) hope this helps, Dave
  20. we cut all arb waste into 8/10" rings on site, any large dia stuff gets halved / quatered. back to the yard, sorted into hard or softwood. my lads then split them, i allow 1 cube per man hour, any more they get a bonus, any less, i want to know why. sometimes, on a weekend they'll split on their own time and i pay them £15 per cube done every ones a winner

  23. lads get to mine for about 8 / 8:30 depending on job. Finish when the jobs done on one day'ers, ongoing jobs, depends on how tight the price is, whereabouts in the country. usually like to finish about 4ish get back to mine, empty trucks etc last weeks finishes were : 4:30, 3:30, 4:00, 6:30, 5:30, and 3:30 on saturday not bad for £20 a day
  24. we had an attempted robbery two weeks ago. (i've been trying to get the footage from the CCTV hard drive onto pc to put on here but can't ) i nearly caught one of them, even though i was semi naked having just got out of the shower. after he'd cleared the 7' fence at the rear of our property i was shouting the usual round of F%%^ and B£"£%^^ at him when he turned round and pulled a rather large kitchen knife out and mentioned that he'd have it on him next time he came. despite my best efforts to persuade him, he wouldn't come back and give me a better view of said knife. a couple of days later when our beloved police force decided to turn up and i showed them the CTV footage, gave a statement, list of stolen stuff etc when i came to telling them about the knife, APPARENTLY i should have stayed in the house, rang the police, and waited if anyone enters my property again, i'm to lock the doors, and call the police when i explained to the two nice lady officers that what i WOULD be doing was going out to any intruders carrying one of the shotguns, loaded, for bear, she was aghast. two days later i get an unannounced visit from our local firearms officer. She'd just 'popped' in as she was passing, but proceeded to give me a lecture on what IS and ISN'T acceptable during a break in. Well, i'm afraid to say her lecture went straight over my head. the next time the dogs start up, and the security lights are doing their best blackpool impression, i'll be putting 3 50g BB cartridges into the semi auto. sod the results, i'll quite happily go to prison with a clear consience (should i post this on an open forum ? )
