  1. 4mm - 6mm stainless steel, plastic coated. Round off the ends.
  2. 1. Effective training. 2. Only include what you can use. 3. Gaffa tape. The rest is detail.
  3. You might be right, Spud. I'm hoping that some of the Para-Olympians will be considered at least.
  4. It's usually under low loads that a tail might creep. As slack is taken from a system, and the unloaded hitch is being shunted forward, there exists a moment when the hitch cord is not pulling tighly on its splices. This is when I would be more confident in a splice that's been locked.
  5. Or two fat ladies? Bingo!
  6. Welcome to the forum, Elliot. How do you know about this? Bad experience?
  7. It's not really a question of right or wrong. The branch produces a lot of friction - a cambium saver produces less - a rope guide produces less still. The good thing about a friction hitch is that you can adjust the set-up so that it provides just the required amount of friction an individual climber wants.
  8. I agree. I've used North Face Duffels for 18 years and I've still got the originals. Look up photos of any expedition and you'll see these bags on mules, sherpas, camels, roofracks etc. They are expensive but also long-lived.

    Women Drivers.

She was taking the offer of CONTACT lenses a bit too far.
  10. The first thing I did with mine was to take off the wee ring and attach a full-sized krab to the Mini-reach with a bit of cord.
  11. Mike, it may be worth checking the BCU site. http://www.bcu.org/ I canoe and coach the skills but this site may give you the info. you need to get started - including local clubs and officers etc. Dee

    Pulley saver

You can splice LSK. But it's a real wrestling match!
  13. Maybe it's just a normal saw with a wee operator on a wee trailer.
  14. I like it. Are the outside surfaces of the double helix the original surface of the piece of wood? In the 'real' one - would you plan to carve the base pairs aswell? I can see how operating a chainsaw might counteract notions of sleep - but a bit extreme, maybe!
  15. Hi Drew, At 680mm are you meeting the first buried taper when working on the second one? Do you stop at 680mm because anything shorter just doesn't grip? Dee.
  16. What length is that E2E AP poly? I've made up a few at 750mm but yours looks shorter - it got me wondering how short it could go. Dee.

    I Passed!!!

It IS a big deal. I don't have it - so respect to you.
  18. WeeDee

    Yes of course!

I had been on this site, looking under particular headings. Once I just did a search - up it popped!

    Thanks again.

    Hi, David.

I've been impressed by your splices of Ap Poly (and the YouTube post).

I was wondering where you bought it from? I can't seem to find a supplier.

    Thanks, Dee.

  20. I play clarinet and alto sax. Previously, I've played cornet, trombone, tenor horn and euphonium. I've been trying to improve on the guitar (for the last 20 odd years).
  21. Gollum, have these krabs been solely 'prepared' for testing this variable (thrown about a tree) or have they been subject to all the usual stresses aswell? Have they been compared to same counterparts that haven't been thrown about a tree? Thanks, Dee.
  22. Thanks for the advice - although I've had no problems (so far) with any of the Tenex splices - this kind or the locked Brummel. What was it that caused you concern and what should I be looking out for?
  23. Have a look at this from GOTC. Yo-yo (also known as RADS for "Rope Ascending Descending System") - A mechanical ascender with a foot loop is attached to the climbing rope. An autolocking belay/rappel device is attached to the climber’s harness at the waist, below this ascender. The brake strand (as it exits the belay/rappel device) is routed up to the ascender and redirected back downward (usually through a carabiner or pulley). * GOTC recognizes that some experienced climber prefer to forgo the life support attachment between the ascender and the climber’s harness, which might provide the climber with some benefit during particular climbs, although it may increase risk. GOTC firmly believes that climbers in a Basic SRT course should be taught to use a tethered ascender.
  24. I've spliced Tenex in much the same way but without the sleeves at the pulley eyes. Have you found that they make much of a difference?
  25. You've got a sister called ST. PATRICK ?! The poor girl! Have a good one!
