Because once you fill up the fuel tank, it's lighter. The tank is smaller due to the lower fuel consumption, so you get the same "mileage" out of a tank. That's how
  2. The gaffs can be really difficult to replace, since the torx (T40, I believe) screws are secured using Loctite, or similar compound. One way to ease the process is to heat up the gaff/screw using a hot-air gun. Careful not to overheat, though. That will soften the Loctite and make it easier to remove. Re-apply Loctite compound when securing the new gaffs. I have been using european style gaffs (like yours), and American style. I prefer the short American gaffs (also called "pole gaffs"), but on thick-barked pine trees, the long american style is required to reach the sapwood.
  3. It looks a bit heavy. What is the weight of the jig itself?
  4. And another benefit of Robinia over oak posts is that they have very little sapwood to begin with (typically less than half an inch). But one big problem is driving in nails due to the very hard heartwood. Virtually impossible unless you use hardened steel nails or pre-drill. Allow extra time when quoting!
  5. My friend actually produces retrievers like the cam retrieve. I've created a page on my website to display his product Gold Nugget - omkap.dk Træfældning Unfortunately, being i Denmark, I think shipping costs would be prohibitively high. Unless someone can convince one of the site sponsors to get a batch... Here is an image of it in action
  6. I'd plank it while wet, to reduce the cracking of the timber, due to the different shrinkage rate perpendicular to the grain compared to parallel with the grain.
  7. Which manuals are you after... Instruction/Owners Manual? Service Manual? Online (PDF) or print versions?
  8. What about trying to mend the crack by melting the plastic with a soldering iron. No idea if the plastic will melt but you could try it out first. At least, you wouldn't have to require a "foreign" adhesive adhere to the plastic and withstand solvents (petrol).
  9. If you use a smartphone (iPhone, Android, etc) there are loads off conversion apps available in the app stores/markets at little or no cost.
  10. Oh yes. A two stroke diesel engine might have problems with emission standards.
  11. The diesel engine would make them far too heavy to be of any practical use.
  12. Alex, Could you assist by providing a breakdown of the current price of Aspen (and other alkylate) fuels? i.e. - Cost ex-refinery - Tax/Duties - VAT - Wholesaler markup - Retailer markup That way, we can all see, what it would mean to the retail price if tax was reduced. 56p/litre reduction would likely reduce the retail price in the order of 100p/litre. But the increased volumes generated by the lower price would likely make up for any reduction in wholesaler and retailer profits caused by the reduced unit prices. Also, why don't you get in touch with Aspen, Sweden to see if you can get some materials from the political decision making regarding taxation of alcylate petrol, and pass that on to support the UK campaign.
  13. Same thing goes for Sweden (no duties), and Sweden is a EU member. To politicians, it is always important pointing out that they are not the first to make a decision.

    what stihl

The Husqvarna 55 has these specs: Displacement: 53 cc Power: 3.4 hp Weight: 5.2 kg So the equivalent "pro" model from Stihl would be: Stihl MS 261: Displacement: 50.2 cc Power: 3.8 hp Weight: 5.2 kg If you want a little more power, get the MS 362. By the way, I fully support your way of choosing between professional brands (Husky/Stihl) based on having a local dealer available for consumables, spares and maintenance.

  17. I believe the Drift HD170 Action Camera - 1080p POV - Drift Innovation helmet cam also provides a built-in option for Time Lapse video.

  19. Rubbish! They are still made, but not currently marketed by Stihl in the UK, for reasons that only Stihl knows.
  20. See the picture in this thread http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/climbers-talk/10108-how-tie-vt-2.html#post184189 And this brilliant document gives you an overview of climbing knots: http://www.treebuzz.com/pdf/climbing_hitches.pdf
  21. I had the exact same thing happen to me 5 months ago (happy X-Mas to you, sir). I have since installed a Cable Lock Alarm, which contains a wire that I thread through all the top-handles of the saws etc. To remove the kit, you's have to either have the key to release the wire, or cut the wire. If the wire is cut, it sounds an ear-piercing alarm. It may just be a futile attempt, but if nothing else, it will delay the thieves, and increase the chance of their detection, which is good enough for me. A quick Google for cable alarms turned up this http://amzn.com/B004T2LQ3U
  22. Interesting! It doesn't seem like the wheel of the Pinto has any use? The Pinto is used as a LOAD BEARING connecting device, only. That obviously makes quite a difference compared to the traditional VT/HC setup, right?
  23. Guesstimate what the guy has nicked over time, and go to him, giving him three options: Pay (top $$) for what he's taken (you can offer writing an invoice) Return everything he has taken to where it came from You go to the Police, and report his crime That way, you don't end up with a nasty confrontation, but lets the culprit decide how the situation is resolved. And in any case, the theft will stop.

    Stihl 201T

It seems Stihl have pulled the 201T page from their website. But (at least for now) Google already keeps a cached copy of the page as it looked, try: MS 201 T - Kraftvolle1,8kW-Baumpflegesäge für Profis Choose the "Technische Daten" link to see specs
  25. Use a wet grinder with an appropriate jig to hold the blade. The scissor jig is probably the best for controlling the chipper blade. The best (in my opinion) is Tormek, but the same factory makes a discount variant called Schleppach. Jigs and parts are mostly interchangeable between the two. Both provide exact control of angles, and no risk of overheating the edge.
