  11. what about us employers we have to pay lads wage for week on top of his training for the week and for that week that lad hasnt earnt the company anything in forestry our margins are very slim so it hurts our pocket but what can you do. i believe in training and safety first but this industry what with fisa training and refresher courses its no joke joy Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2

  14. so another thing to consider we measure using the cubic vented nets we shake the bags three times upon filling and then fil to level only as we have found bags do give and sag after repeated use and shaken bags give a more consistant measure of a true cube of logs dont think this debate will ever resolve itself:confused: Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
  15. nothing wrong in burning seasoned softwood we have for over 13 years no probs and regularly swept our chimney Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
  16. religously sweep our chimney every year the problem i find through summer months when not lit is jackdaws nesting on top stopping draught. burning two year old poplar and its the best wood ive ever used. it lasts ,very little soot and upto temp almost instantly i however cant sell it as as its been kep two years the bark has sloughed off and the logs look dirty. we are finding more people wanting clean looking logs joy Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
  17. i would second that its probably not what you want to hear but my hubby has been in the woods over 13 years and i dont think you ever stop learning.... you would be a fool to say you knew it all as im sure theres always something around the corner to learn from what i would say is in all his years he would only climb a forest tree to attach a skyline cable. very difficult to give advise when not on site but i think taking an extra initial rack out or small number to allow directional fell and winching joy.....preparing to be shotdown in flames Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
  18. would be interested in purchasing we are based in uttoxeter if your within 50 miles of us joy Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
  19. 1.75 cheap for a made up chain Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
  20. this is not true ...yes forestry is classed as agric. but only if the trees are cut on the farm or woodland belonging to the farm bringing in timber from a forest is the same as bringing in arb arisings it needs planning. Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
  21. we have a machine that is pto driven and is belt driven conveyor Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
  22. we always take spare belts and a spare blade Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
  23. we charge 250 a day as you would want 150 a man plus 100 for machine Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
  24. i love bagging logs n sticks hint of sarcasm in my voice there joy Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
  25. first of all.... hi bob fab to meet you both had a great chat with a like minded bod. second... even my lad picked up on the questionaire bob a glaringly obvious mistake i think made by the new salesperson possibly. thirdly...firewood should be sold by volume i.e per cubic metre and not per tonne as wood wants to be as dry n light as poss. we get the age old problem of competing with the beer money builders tonne bag brigade... our answer we now also stock a half cube bag in which we shake the bags twice when filling with the forklift so the bags are full and so the bag measures dxwxh gives .5 cubic metre the wood sold in it is described as half a cube of loose logs measured in a container holding a half cube volume. the bags dont sag and hold an upright shape showing a full volume. now if a seller is filling a bag and dragging into van to deliver i would imagine as logs are not shaken there would be less amount of logs but it is still sold in the same container..... my half cube of hardwood are 55 others round here are probably cheaper but in mine you get more logs so swings n roundabouts i guess if you had a bag for 35 you had 35 pounds worth imo joy Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
