  1. All that axe stuff is all very well and macho for a few days but if the guys got money for a splitter then lose the axe your never look back ! Have a look at walenstein really really good ! Best of luck
  2. "if you get time any chance!" "my husband used to do tree work" best one for me is when you turn up to take down a tree a couple of hundred years old cos its to close to the house and they say "what a silly place to plant a tree that size !" lol especially when the house is only 70 years old!
  3. So in short its a right ball ache for the boss lol .. no on a serious note youve explained it very well ,just out of interest whats your position? are you in the scheme
  4. very good points there paul cheers , im all up for the idea but when you see companys who have it and still producing rubbish it makes you think twice !, i realise that the scheme is based on the whole package of the buisness etc but because the tree work (reductions ,dismantles ) is what everybody sees then thats gota be the most important bit so i guess if your small company then its a lot easyer to make sure its up to scratch but i do struggle to see how it could all be monitered on a larger scale , thanks for the reply
  5. apoligies if this has been covered before but just been through another thread about getting aa approved as ive been toying with this for a while about the benifits etc etc ... very recently the council has updated their list of contractors and 2 new firms that have got on it which is all fine and dandy and both of these are aa approved . Now how does it work if the bigger companies have say 4 teams ? do each team get tested for this certificate ?.. The only reason i ask is that one of the companys work is SHOCKING , and the pruning standered is terrible (IMO)but on paper you wouldnt think twice about having them ! i mean good climbers come and go so if that company is tested while the good climber is working for them and then he leaves the next day and replaced by the newby out of college his work defo wont be to the same standered .. for the record im not a council contractor but im a subby climber for 2 of them not that thats got anything to do with it im just rambling now ..... sooo thoughts anyone ??
  6. hey mark , chop an onion a bit of garlic cover your liver in plain flour and shake the excess off(helps brown your liver and helps to thicken your sauce ) heat some oil and pan fry your liver until it starts to turn brown then add your onion and garlic , i like my liver a little a bit pink and you can eat it pretty rare if that floats your boat , once your onion has softened and turned golden add a glass of red wine and maybe a little water depending on how much sauce you like let that reduce for a while then thicken with a little tomatoe puree and a bit of bisto ! i always cook my bacon seperatly so it remains crispy but you could chop it up and chuck it in when you add your onions if you like , (lambs liver is my favourite ):thumbup1:serve it with a big heap of buttery mash jobs a good un , hope this helps
  7. i had a weird one while i went to price a job last year , i was looking for an adress with a house name called 'the willows' after a while of driving round in circles i finally found it so i got out and there was a lady opening the back gate , she says "you must be the tree guy" i replyed "thats me " after a while of chatting and pricing i handed her a buisness card and said any problems give us a bell , she gave me a really puzzled look and said "ohh i thought i called (gave me name of another tree firm) " we both stood looking quite puzzled for a while until the other tree firm pulled up and that was pretty awkward ! ,. turns out i just by chance found another house called the willows who was also waiting for someone to look at some trees! the one i was looking for was about a mile down the road !! never will that happen again ! the irony is that i got the job i wasnt looking for but never got the one i was ,lol
  8. check for oil in the ecu , what reg is it ?

  10. hey chris , to be honest having a good groundy is nice but i always seem to just get on with it and trust my own work , , i done this one all with a silky and felcos . i LOVE my felcos they never leave my harness and even on takedowns i carry them , they are in my eyes the most usefull tool i use just being able to nip that annoying bit off that sticks in your face is very handy
  11. thanks mate i must admit im loving doing reductions at the minute, a nice big fell once in while is good but theres something much more satisfying about a decent reduction,. and the bass tasted goooooood !!
  12. one of the better saturdays !
  13. started the day with a holm oak reduction and then for a spot of fishing then a cold one ! jobs a good un
  14. i was going through this a month ago and it helps if one of you are employed ,but as rupe says its just one big pain in the aris nowadays !
  15. bit like this , i think i just used ally primer then just sprayed black hamerite over it
  16. i freelance to 3 companys and i think besides all the rigging kit bigger saws etc ,, 1 of the most important things is to just be able to get on with people ,hold small talk be polite until youve done enough to have a laugh and take the piss etc . 1 company gets me in to do reductions cos they know ive got more pateince with fine reductions so rigging kit is not needed , ive always got by with the basics and never had a problem i dont really think you should have to worry about building there company on your expertise because surely as a free lance climber you want them to get more work as your then get asked back ?so do every job like it was your own it will make you happy and much more satisfied at your abilitly:thumbup1:
  17. id agree :thumbup1:mines been brilliant defo recomend

  24. todays job i get the feeling my luck will run out soon with nice trees to climb , i was subbing for this one and im sure there will be an ivy clad and dog rose ridden tree lurking round the corner !, i think the story behind this one was a machine hit it a number of years ago and over the last couple of years its showing quite alot of stag heads , although it is in a bowling club carpark with cars being able to park right up to it so i guess compaction could be the culprit ? thoughts welcome
  25. i think i paid 2 grand all in ,full towing electrics , honda gx engine 20 ton ,vertical or horizontal ,i cant fault it ,its been great and andrew at wallenstein was very helpfull and quick in sorting it if you look at the chinese copies for around 1500 quid that you cant tow above 6 mph and have a rsj made of plastic its a bit of a no brainer really ..
