  1. More often not the poor readings indicated are confirmed by poor burning. Make sure the batteries are good or the readings go way off. I found the stihl meter says wood is dryer than it is. Oak is a pig and can take years to dry I am sure you have found that in the past. I think the stihl meter is ok.
  2. Front room hottest so far this winter. Burning kindling blocks we rejected due to large knots. Kiln dried and 16 % moisture
  3. New d max tows 3.5 tonne old rodeo does not. Drive both and see what you think normally the new model is a step forward. The old model will drop its price quickly. I looked at both a week ago the d max did not look weak the dealers were changing all their staff cars for the new one.
  4. I find dry softwood better burns hot. Yes you have to get up more often to put it on so what. On still days I find hardwood can be a bit lazy to burn you open the vents and all the heat goes up the chimney.
  5. Sounds more like your problem is wife dogs and horses. No Animals here sleep like a log.
  6. We live on site which is good for security. No easy answer depends on how you feel about looking out the kitchen window at all the work in front of you. Also we have kept the costs away from the business as when you sell you could be in for capital gains tax on your property. I think the ideal would be yard and workshops next door out of view. so work is work and home is home. You could still install cameras for security but looking at a screen occasionally does not seem so bad.
  7. A visor offers very little protection but it does offer some so well worth wearing even when cross cutting. A longer bar is likely to hit the actual helmet rather than the visor this will slow a chain down and could reduce an injury to painfull rather than fatal.
  8. You mean you would not spoil the nice pine with bits of oak
  9. You have to give him credit for actually admitting it. If the chain break handle was broken off I would imagine this will affect the reaction time of the break. The inertia of a kick back must to some degree transmit through the handle to the break. If you were a cat you would only have 8 left. I would buy a lottery ticket this weekend.
  10. How much is a new engine
  11. You dont need to work alone. If you have enough work on get a self employed mate on. If its quiet dont, just work on your own. As long as you dont promise future work until it comes up everyone knows the score. Often working with someone else they have different skill sets which brings in more work also different ways of doing things. Working on your own can be a bit lonely.
  12. Another vote for the Farmi wp36 lends itself well to cracking rings after you have cut them with a chainsaw also you get a processor thrown in. You will need a log splitter as well though especially for stuff over 16"
  13. If a bag of hardwood is £80 what is a bag of softwood £65 ? third of a bag means you are £5 out of pocket. Not right I agree but dont give yourself the stress of trying to ring the world, talk to them direct. You may find its the best mix of logs you ever had.
  14. You forgot the one that struts around in his timber sports wearing designer sun glasses in the rain and cuts at least one body part of a week.
  15. We have a couple of hundred spare bags today will send you a pm. We are collection only we are about 50 miles from the m25.
  16. Its surprising how many people agree with your figures when wrong in their favour a bit more vocal when they are out of pocket. I only take simple conversations on the hands free like yes and no will be 30 mins etc. I dont quote verbal prices in case I get back to the office and find the 2k job is actually 4k
  17. Is the rain running down the trunk or comming off the roof sheet I assume it has coregations . If its the roof sheet cover it with flat sheet all the way from the top when you get to the tree bend the sheet so the rain runs off either side of the tree on to another sheet and away.
  18. I have a company that dries our 40% douglas to 16% in 4 days at 80 deg
  19. do you have any pics, What does it cost to run for 24 hrs we have pallets of kindling to kiln.
  20. On some turbos there is a vacumn operated waste gate which sticks shut. try freeing this off.
  21. Are you working the metreage out as a solid cubic metre or air space taken on lorry because big straight sticks will still have at least 25% air space. 40 metres of space will give you 30 cubic metres or 30x1.2 = 36 tonnes. Or I could be completely off the mark and talking complete crap.
  22. Had the same thing a year or so ago agony could not sleep at night. Went to docs and found I am becomming alergic to them. The more you get stung the worse it will get. If you take an old fashioned piriton tablet within minutes you should not react anywhere near as bad ( dont follow my advice without talking to your doc ) so I now carry piriton tabs if it progresses you may need a pen to stab your self with in case it goes to anathalaptic shock ( sorry for spelling ) either that or I am a wus and just need to man up
  23. You need 3 x running current min on your generator. So 2.2kw = 6.5 kw or 8kva. Not only do you need this to start it but when you stall on a knot you will send the windings into orbit. You can get away with smaller generators but not without reducing the life of the generator and motor. New generators have less material in them and are not able to take as much abuse as the old stuff.
  24. Just bought a 60 plate d4 with 65k on the clock absolutely mint in the dealers tommorrow with drone on over run. New key £300 we will see if its a pita it will be gone and a new dmax on the drive with 5 year warranty.
  25. So you welcome the Scottish and Welsh
