  1. Put a car coil spring that fits over the metal bump stop. There was a thread a few weeks ago I put some pics up. Best of all worlds costs pennies and it does not make the back end rock hard when empty.
  2. Where are they roughly ?
  3. Thanks Jonathan I am sure your right on all counts. I remembered after posting that when the stem was the other way round it was trying to cut down because the guide wheel stopped turning. We had the timber leveled and chocked. When we turned it end for end it tried to start cutting up hill. I dont think we gave it a bump but its possible. The blades came with the machine 15 of them, 7 were meant to be sharp the rest used so could be 3 unlucky blades many more to follow. We did start to notice poor results so took the opportunity to move and level the bed. My next idea is to put spacers on the bed and a string line. Before I adjust anything will try another stem and may be try some more blades. It was working fine sunday day later turn sour. We were getting a cubic metre an hour out inc cross cutting it. Picture of the stem below they are a bit big for a lt15 I may try chainsawing a metre off the fat end.
  4. Have some big butts of poplar and have been cutting like butter. Have put a stem on the miser that is just above the felling cut and tapers from 25" down to 20. No matter what I do from either end the blade enters the cut and within 6 in it is tracking up by an inch looks, feels and sounds bad. I have changed 3 different blades. My miser cant have gone that far out of adjustment so quickly and I am just on one section of bed. Is it because the stem is so near the root and the blade is following the grain.
  5. What are you clearing we may be able to help if there is a lot We are in Andover.
  6. Its good we did not loose to many trees and hopefully no one got hurt. Its probably good to have a dress rehearsal focuses peoples minds to get prepared.
  7. Thanks for the contacts will give them a bell in next few days. The more contacts the better especially if everyone is busy.
  8. How many hours run. Looks older than 1983. Only 2 wd drive so alot of weight for the front axle.
  9. I can think of at least 3 replies to that but in the spirit of the new reborn forum I am not going to write them.
  10. Is it a big one we like 20" stems 8ft long
  11. I get along fine with the lidl one for £20 . The guide is a bit plastic but its up for some skillfull manipulation. I dont like taking all the teeth down to the size of the smallest one if a few are mullered so be it.
  12. Perhaps you need to explain why you ask. Are you young and inexperienced but feel you are very able or are you thinking of employing someone.
  13. Looks like you may get some stock in about 10 hours. If i get offered nice stuff I will let you know.
  14. H&S is nothing to do with safety its a paperwork excercise to pass the buck further down the line. When the large organisation grinds to a halt it goes straight out the window. When I carry out routine service work need to book in 48 hrs before with rems normally plus 16 pages for a 1 hour service. Next week bet I dont fill anything out lights go out generator engineer goes in. Stay safe and watch out for your selves dont rely on the pen pushers they will be in melt down if it happens again.
  15. Perhaps we should have a show us your concrete thread. People cant understand why I get excited about a bit of concrete but the difference it makes to your working day is massive no more sludging about in mud and you can sweep up.
  16. employed by older wiser richer men
  17. In 1987 I had a new 3 day old transit running around sorting generators a tree fell on the bonnet. Got the disc cutter out and cut it off drove round for 5 days with no bonnet. Cant afford a new transit this time round so should have no problems
  18. Formal training, qualifications and years on the job = experience
  19. Never really thought of pop as being of any value for milling will keep an eye out if I can recognise it.
  20. If you are looking for big butts or have some add your name to the list. If you need to clear big softwood butts or nice oak and beech for milling. I have room in the yard and can come to site and clear 3 tonnes at a time. could possibly drop bobcat for loading. Poplar and douglas ideal cut to about 8ft long up to 30" wide . Can't get an arctic in but most other things inc big tractor and trailer. North Hampshire?/ Andover can pm mobile if needed.
  21. We had a vw LT35 van the battery leaked the engine Ecu was directly underneath you can guess the rest.
  22. If anyone wants to add their details on here even if close to Andover please do I it may help people to print off a list of possible takers if things do get rough.
  23. Experience is when you can pee with the seat down and leave no evidence and not get found out by err in doors.
  24. The substrate round here is chalk about 4 " under the dirt. If you disturb it 4 weeks later you cant touch it with a fork. I gave up trying to dig the veg beds by hand years ago. Now I just get the mini digger on it. I have always put 6" of premix without mesh but 4" it would go alot further.
