  1. If you can get £100 a metre retail will be fine. Round here end user buys for £60 a cubic metre all day long and they are the expensive suppliers.
  2. get someone you trust who knows iveco to check it out. A lot of things cause judder including oil on the friction plate from engine or gearbox seals even duff engine mounts can cause judder.
  3. I have vent stripe all round which are ok apart from green logs processed now for next year you will get some mould problems. net on two sides and strip on two sides may be better. get loops on the bottom if you have forklift to tip
  4. The tanks are smaller than a disco or similar so often feels like they need filling often.
  5. If anyone spots a nice cheap peachy one down south I want a tool box for the yard does not need to go on road just thick mud in yard. Best to spend a bit more on a nice one rather than spend time trying to burst a nail into life itn thick snow. I like the small turning circle. They are high revving so they can tow 3.5 tonne can be a bit heavy on fuel if you drive it solo at 80 mph but their not meant for that.
  6. We had a lt35 service van which had lost a bit of power it was booked into main dealer and came back with several spureous results and a £70 bill for diagnostic testing. The parts were over 2k and the dealer suggested fitting the cheapest first. I got involved and within 3 minutes offered the suggestion they start by changing the 3 inch rubber inter cooler hose that was plastering the white bulkhead with crap the whooshing noise and 3 inch split were the problem.
  7. Certainly will lost it last year for 8 days last year and never received the compensation pack after chasing 4 times they won't get away with it this time. £3000.00 this time plus cost of dongles and lap tops we have had to buy to keep business going. Need a public inquire into this out fit and soon shocking.
  8. Lost both my phone lines and both broadband services over week ago. But open reach must be the most under resourced lying company in the country. The could not start the work because Hampshire county council would not allow them traffic light permission. So I got onto our local councillor. I have long statement from them saying bt have not contacted them in any way. Had to buy a dongle to get my emails and get on arbtalk. Turns out there are over 500 people in my area without service.
  9. Mind you we do see the other side of it where the public do all the straight forward profitable stuff then bring the crap awkward jobs in or worse have a go round all the nuts off and loose the bits limp in and pretend they never touched it.
  10. Dont use grease or vaseline they contain petroleum products if the terminals get hot they combust. The spray terminal stuff is better as it contains alkalides to neutralise any acid around the terminal and prevents corrosion by getting in everywhere unlike the wipe of the finger most main dealers do if they can be arsed. The garages now charge over £100 an hour because they think they have you by the balls. If they dont and you have your own diagnostic kit they dont care as u are in the minority. Diagnostic kit is a brilliant aid but you still need common sense experience and logic.
  11. If you don't keep an eye on the figures you could be doing the wrong things every month for years. Turning good work away and buying kit to make crap work pay
  12. Its going to be difficult to compete with gas as it comes out the ground free just needs pushing up pipe. Most people buy logs for the direct heat and feel good factor. They also get a hunter gatherer fix even if they did not hunt or gather. If or when the country grinds to a halt the wood burner will still give you heat. I find the open fire or wood burner also changes the air in the room and I think this helps prevent the spread of colds and airborne nastiest. Finally I don't think anyone has mentioned the big one which is that it is co2 neutral. I would be careful what you say on the net remember what happened to Ratners when he said his jewellery was crap
  13. I find at least half my jobs have complications so I quote on that basis. If things go very well its to my advantage not my detriment. I used to book jobs in for say 6 hours work then have 2 dead hours at the end of the day. That 6 hours is now 8. I don't need every job that comes through the door and if there is no work its a fault with my marketing not my quoting.
  14. I may have wrong end of stick but an idea may be to buy a bench grinder from lidl for £20 and un bolt the grinder and just use the base with clamp.
  15. Hotmax are just up the road we used to buy 20 kg for £2.50 really slow seller people want nice dry beach logs. Hot ax is now £3.75 + vat. If you can buy it cheap why make it yourself the machines come from china cost about 20k and last a week before they are scrap.
  16. Hi ace super reliable and well made but if you drive one I think you will give it back. VW better made than Vito but if you are a big bloke the Vito fits like a glove and the transporter is uncomfortable. I sold our Vito when it was 6 years old as I could see it was going to fail the next Mot on rust the rear wiper was hanging out by the wires. The van had 160k on the clock and had a hard life the wheel arches were wrecked buy snow chains in Norway.
  17. As you may know I am a generator engineer qualified electrician and hgv mechanic. Average day turn over for me about £400 but often travel up to 100 miles each way. A lot of days in office organising jobs and quotes but good job could earn me £1000. I think the main problem for tree surgeons is the market is saturated and people are desperate for work. You need to hold your nerve when pricing. If you are on talking terms with your competition agree not to kill each other on price. If you get timber from site you shoulb be able to process and deliver 6 cubic metres in a day = £600 less expenses.
  18. T5 seems to have a few problems with gearbox and water pump. Sprinter a fair bit bigger to drive and more like 25 MPG than t5 35 MPG. Sprinter is a good van with strong engine and drive train.
  19. Freshly felled western ihave in recently for kindling feels very dry and gets down to 16% very quickly. Some of the ash logs i have can still be wet in the middle after years. So it may not be telling as many porkies as you think. All meters go way out when batteries get low so try new ones you may be surprised in the difference. My mate has a Stihl meter and we find it a bit optermistic against my ebay cheapo ie you think your logs are drier than they actually are. I keep hearing people say their logs are down to 10% but the skirting boards in my house are 14% and my house is not damp
  20. I thought they looked a bit flimsy and over priced until last week when one was used to lift great big butts of nearly a tonne and drive them up a 45 degree muddy slope amazing traction no way our bobcat 751 would touch that job.
  21. Yes few people round us selling wet logs cheap.
  22. How much more superfical can you get metro sexual gets someone to fit him a wood burner then someone else to cut the logs. All he does is go to the garage with his bag for life.
  23. This sort of vehicle would be ideal for most people unless you need to tow big trailers on regular basis. 4x4 economical nippy and reliable.
  24. So is the disco 2 I have a 53 plate done me really well but now really dated and heavy to drive the wife will hate you for it. Not heard about rav 4 problems if that's the only problem get it modified.
