  1. But at least you know the goods excist and either side can raise some simple paperwork to cover any come backs. Better than signing for an empty packet through the post.
  2. Often you will find its the contacts in the solinoid are pitted. I would imagine the price of copper now they are not as good quality or as big as they used to be. 1/2 hr job every few years. Probably better sorting your starter rather than exchanging it for a bodged one that has been to the moon and back.
  3. Well gone and done it now bought another disco van. Our d2 has been brilliant the new one is more space ship than work truck. Will see how it goes basically a Range Rover sport with bigger boot. 255 hp is nice towing 3500kg
  4. This thread wont even scratch the surface of the scams they pull on ebay. They pick up ideas off ea other on the ebay forums or their brother init
  5. wait till snows on the ground you can sell chipboard no need for meter.
  6. If vosa spot a tree surgeon thats not over weight they would think you have something more sinister to hide:biggrin:
  7. If you had a weighing system installed you would probably find that 3.5 tonne vehicles carry very little and ignor it and fill it up anyway otherwise you will never get the job done. get it weighed with a legal load and see how much space there is between the bump stops. Normally if you are on the stops its too much unless your springs are knackered
  8. I think I would get more pleasure from a chipper certainly it would earn more money and break down less.
  9. Or on this forum in a different section asking for free wood
  10. I thought the money you lads earn a range Rover sport would be straight out the back pocket
  11. Another way to explain to them is you charge £100 they claim back 40% = £60 If you were vat registered £100 less 20% = £80 less 40% = £48 so although they would be better if you were vat registered it is only by 12% if that makes sense. Chances are as a small business you will be cheaper to start with as well they cant have their cake and eat it.
  12. Could be they do take at least 500 miles to bed in. The material could be harder to stop it fading when stopping your 3.5 tonne ifor that had new brakes 6 years ago.
  13. I did not drive the dmax but they cant be that bad its supposed to tow 3.5 tonnes although the spec says with only 500kg in the truck and you need to take passengers out of that.
  14. I bought a 60 plate disco 4 van in the end. Any grief and it will be a new d Max on the drive.
  15. Keep that bit to one side when using a saw as well
  16. I never drove the d max but did drive the new Toyota. Problem is with dealers they never have the bottom of the range 18k double cab. The Toyota drove very nice but the version tested was 27k + vat. The rain pours in when you wind the window down and floods the window switches. Sounds like a bag of nails when you floor it , no leg support apart from that very nice.
  17. I am sure everyone on here has had an accident and realised their mistake afterwards. About 2 years ago I was using a jig saw with blunt blade put both hands on to apply more pressure. Put my left hand index finger between the body of the saw and the hex head bolt that jigs up and down. Unfortunately they are low geared and the gap is only 2-3mm the bolt went through my nail and smashed the end of my finger to bits. Had to sit down for a bit while the cold sweats wore off. Bugger did that hurt. Still no feelling in tip of the finger. Wife refused to take me to minor injuries until East Enders had finished.
  18. Sometimes worth getting them to price match and lever it down a bit. Problem with tyres posted and fitted who takes responsability if they go out of shape.
  19. I suppose its an easy one to work out look at last years turn over and what you paid in vat if it comes to more than 11 % your better off flat rate. Just watch you did not make a few large purchases in the first year you wont make for another 4 years. Also monitor it as you go in case the way you do business changes.
  20. Not sure how that would work on my business will have to take the time to work it out. I spend alot on diesel oil and filters apart from the odd van not much would go over 2k. 98 % of my customers are vat registered
  21. And weigh in bronze statues and man hole covers
  22. No idea but I cant ask my local scrap yard known the 30 years and my kids go to school with theirs. they know where I live they have been round for coffee. But I still need photo id and utility bill may be its worth some research.
  23. Ours does that at the moment but you need photo id every time and no cash payments unless you are no fixed abode then you can have cash otherwise it be against your human rights . No conspiracy theory they bought out new rules which force payments into an account. Yes it is tax that is due. What they should have done was said we are clamping down on tax evasion rather than metal theft.
  24. You only charge 5% on logs and you can claim the vat back on everything you buy. Like the discovery van this week £2800.00 Vat does not affect commercial customers as they get it back. You could drop your price by 10% for your private customers and charge vat. You should not be out of pocket compared with before as at least you are reclaiming vat.
