  1. If you spend a grand you could have an auto change over all your family would need to do is then is start the genny.
  2. Just generators have a better web site than us and I think they have a briggs and scrapum change over panel on their and lots of useful info. You probably dont need all those bells and whistles. A simple 100 amp change over in an enclosure from a local electrical wholesaler shop be ok £150-£300 needs an off position in the middle. Be careful when pulling tails either you are paying for the leccy you make or are in big danger of shock or breaking the law removing the boards fuse.
  3. I have in the past centre tapped them so that rcd's work. I would keep the floating earth because at least you only have 55/ 120volts to earth. If you centre tap it and someone uses it portable especially if they dont earth it you will have 240 volts to earth. The answer is I dont know on the Pramac.
  4. You can run your entire house on your generator when ever you like. But you must have a change over switch installed by a qualified electrician so the mains cannot be connected to the generator or vis versa. I dont know how it works with solar panels never come across this set up. We are more into commercial installations so dont tend to install into homes but do loads of Mansions. It is illegal to plug your generator into your ring main.
  5. The set produces 5kw we have the same size on our house. It will power all domestic lights central heating pumps, tele, fridge freezer and one major appliance. A kettle is normally 3000w so ditch that and get a travel kettle. We tend to use the micro wave but if you manage your power u can normally use an Oven. No electric shower they are normally 7-9 kw on their own.
  6. Thought I would post this up as people are struggling with no power. Not posted to sell generators especially, we dont keep on the shelf but special order within a few days. I have supplied the generator in the picture to many customers as a standby set for a family home. I think the price is about £3000 inc vat. The engine is a genuine Yanmar make sure if you buy local u get the P6000s and not just the P6000 the first one is about £200 more but worth it as its incredibly quiet. Dont buy this set to run off grid 18 hrs a day you need to spend at least £6000 on a 1500 rpm set. The reasons I like this set Easy to open and service Seriously Quiet 14 hr tank at full load means it could do 20 hrs and at least get through the night Fuel filler is on the side and level is visible. Reliable for a 3000 rpm machine Can have a wheel kit to move about.
  7. No but the diesel is the cheap bit. With 250hp it does pull 3.5 tonne easily
  8. £150 for one of those you may as well get a D4 will be cheaper to run.
  9. Thanks will put a drop of engine oil down spin then refit injectors. Several oil changes and hope for the best. Will be fitting a new exhaust with rain flap.
  10. I went top start our 2 cyl deutz powered green mech chipper tonight. Luckily the battery was poor because it sounded like it was hyd locked and I noticed water running out the exhaust. I think this has occured in the last week. Now being a generator engineer you would think I had come across this before and yes I have but they have been sat for months and needed strip down. I have removed injectors and spun as much water out as possible and sprayed wd 40 down. . I am gutted this has happened to a piece of our kit as it was parked in a lean to and the rain must have driven almost horizontal to get that much down the exhaust. Any advice before start up ?
  11. Give citroen the chassis no and they will cut one. Cant be as expensive as a Landrover discovery 4 £200 with programme
  12. Had one for a month and love it but can see it on autotrader within 3 months a proper wallet emptier.
  13. Drain the tank could be a build up over years. I use a racor unit with an electric pump to clean fuel often just sniff around the bottom of tanks regularly surprising how much is in there.
  14. I have a picture here and the plane looks the same so it must have been a halifax.
  15. People looking for slow burning logs have not sussed out how to work their stove or have a cheap stove which wont throttle down. Everything bone dry burns well on my stove.
  16. Had a call tonight from the relative of a 99 year old lady that has had no power since Monday. Nothing left in my yard will go to the property and have a look tommorrow . Cant believe the power companies are not pushed into providing generators to vunerable people.
  17. My father in law Jack Pickering flew out of Brisnorton in Oxfordshire and I think Lincolnshire. We have a very good photo of him and about 5 other flight crew if it helps anyone.
  18. You may have a problem getting £200 for a transit load round my way
  19. I dont sell logs anymore cant compete with people selling cheap. Customers can always buy their logs 9 months in advance and spend £12 on a moisture metre and manage their fuel source. I used to season for a minimum of 12 months after cutting into brick sized logs. Its taken me 2 years to clear out my stock of seasoned logs. There must be a shortage of logs if people are buying it green the customer is sharper than u think they know its green but cheap.
  20. Wifes dad was a rear gunner but not turned up much info as the war office had a fire and lost the records. 51 squadron swift and sure. flying Halifax bombers. Did the maximum missions.
  21. I prefer to work now then skiv if the sun comes out in August. Laying on a nice sandy beech on the south coast vs sat around watching crap Tv and stuffing too much in your face cos u is bored = no brainer for me
  22. The only difference I can see between kiln dried and air dried is the cost monetary and enviromental. You may get a reading of 14% when it comes out of the kiln but a few days later it will be exactly the same as the air dried 12 month old Beech. I have seen cut beech logs get 90% of the moisture out in 4 weeks of heat wave. I have seen very little drop in moisture content from sept to april.
  23. Trees down all over the place round here. Been out connecting generators to large buildings for days looks like will start again in a few hours.
  24. I sometimes need to ring 20-30" stuff sometimes and get by with my 390 have pondered between 460 and 660 in the past. Looked at the prices and struggled on. I found the exhausts fall to bits on the 390 on my 3rd one.
  25. The garden centre either did not charge vat on it or failed to pass it on. Friends of ours had a tax inspection which turned their lives upside down for 6 months. The tax man asked to see their personal supermarket receipts and asked how much they spent on washing up liquid per year. They were squeaky clean and had nothing to pay but it cost them thousands in accountant fees. If you get an inspection its not for the tax man to prove its for you to prove you dont and its easier with good records especially since they go back 6 years and you should keep your books for 10.
