  1. I went top start our 2 cyl deutz powered green mech chipper tonight. Luckily the battery was poor because it sounded like it was hyd locked and I noticed water running out the exhaust. I think this has occured in the last week. Now being a generator engineer you would think I had come across this before and yes I have but they have been sat for months and needed strip down. I have removed injectors and spun as much water out as possible and sprayed wd 40 down. . I am gutted this has happened to a piece of our kit as it was parked in a lean to and the rain must have driven almost horizontal to get that much down the exhaust. Any advice before start up ?
  2. Give citroen the chassis no and they will cut one. Cant be as expensive as a Landrover discovery 4 £200 with programme
  3. Had one for a month and love it but can see it on autotrader within 3 months a proper wallet emptier.
  4. Drain the tank could be a build up over years. I use a racor unit with an electric pump to clean fuel often just sniff around the bottom of tanks regularly surprising how much is in there.
  5. I have a picture here and the plane looks the same so it must have been a halifax.
  6. People looking for slow burning logs have not sussed out how to work their stove or have a cheap stove which wont throttle down. Everything bone dry burns well on my stove.
  7. Had a call tonight from the relative of a 99 year old lady that has had no power since Monday. Nothing left in my yard will go to the property and have a look tommorrow . Cant believe the power companies are not pushed into providing generators to vunerable people.
  8. My father in law Jack Pickering flew out of Brisnorton in Oxfordshire and I think Lincolnshire. We have a very good photo of him and about 5 other flight crew if it helps anyone.
  9. You may have a problem getting £200 for a transit load round my way
  10. I dont sell logs anymore cant compete with people selling cheap. Customers can always buy their logs 9 months in advance and spend £12 on a moisture metre and manage their fuel source. I used to season for a minimum of 12 months after cutting into brick sized logs. Its taken me 2 years to clear out my stock of seasoned logs. There must be a shortage of logs if people are buying it green the customer is sharper than u think they know its green but cheap.
  11. Wifes dad was a rear gunner but not turned up much info as the war office had a fire and lost the records. 51 squadron swift and sure. flying Halifax bombers. Did the maximum missions.
  12. I prefer to work now then skiv if the sun comes out in August. Laying on a nice sandy beech on the south coast vs sat around watching crap Tv and stuffing too much in your face cos u is bored = no brainer for me
  13. The only difference I can see between kiln dried and air dried is the cost monetary and enviromental. You may get a reading of 14% when it comes out of the kiln but a few days later it will be exactly the same as the air dried 12 month old Beech. I have seen cut beech logs get 90% of the moisture out in 4 weeks of heat wave. I have seen very little drop in moisture content from sept to april.
  14. Trees down all over the place round here. Been out connecting generators to large buildings for days looks like will start again in a few hours.
  15. I sometimes need to ring 20-30" stuff sometimes and get by with my 390 have pondered between 460 and 660 in the past. Looked at the prices and struggled on. I found the exhausts fall to bits on the 390 on my 3rd one.
  16. The garden centre either did not charge vat on it or failed to pass it on. Friends of ours had a tax inspection which turned their lives upside down for 6 months. The tax man asked to see their personal supermarket receipts and asked how much they spent on washing up liquid per year. They were squeaky clean and had nothing to pay but it cost them thousands in accountant fees. If you get an inspection its not for the tax man to prove its for you to prove you dont and its easier with good records especially since they go back 6 years and you should keep your books for 10.
  17. To many mixed messages. Arb arising are either valuable or their not. One man is felling trees to get the stuff another is charging to take the stuff away. If you tell the customer you charge to take the trunks away and they say leave them behind you cant then tell them you are missing out on the money for the logs. I often give tree surgeons a drink for any nice timber they get some are embarressed to take it others want a few hundred quid
  18. I never use mixed fuel thats over 6 weeks old. I only use shell or bp I use fuel sometimes that could be 2 months old but put the oil in on the day never have problems. Tesco's fuel took out 2 of our saws a few years ago when they had a silicon problem.
  19. I am now out connecting a 150 kva to a mansion to ensure they have a christmas. The time we have all spent debating whether to work or not could of helped someone out and earnt some proper money. Hope you all have a safe and happy christmas lets hope the wind calms down.
  20. Positives new kit looks good for a business image more reliable less down time More efficient and less pollution better on fuel Gives operators a certain amount of feel good factor. Tax deductable helps keep big tax bills at bay Repairs covered by warranty Negatives expensive to purchase High depreciation Attractive to thieves
  21. No my point was we dont get storms that wipe out thousands of homes. A tree surgeon called to a mansion should expect to get paid well on a public holiday. I was trying to say we are just as public spirited as the usa. We may not remove trees free of charge but everyone gets medical care free irrespective of whether they can afford insurance.
  22. We dont get the same severe weather you do. I think these boys are talking about removing trees so millionaires can get to the golf club. If we had a national disaster I am sure everyone would muck in and the last thing on anyones mind would be payment. If I was in the usa without insurance and got injured would I get free medical care ?
  23. Same here unless he was a banker, MP , estate agent or traffic warden then it would definately get expensive
  24. I have a 100 series Amazon. Just bought a discovery 4 which is much better to drive and tows better with 250hp question is how many weeks will it last ? The new Amazon is unreliable ugly and dated and hideously expensive. So I think I will stick with the 100 series for now.
