  1. I can think of at least 3 replies to that but in the spirit of the new reborn forum I am not going to write them.
  2. Is it a big one we like 20" stems 8ft long
  3. I get along fine with the lidl one for £20 . The guide is a bit plastic but its up for some skillfull manipulation. I dont like taking all the teeth down to the size of the smallest one if a few are mullered so be it.
  4. Perhaps you need to explain why you ask. Are you young and inexperienced but feel you are very able or are you thinking of employing someone.
  5. Looks like you may get some stock in about 10 hours. If i get offered nice stuff I will let you know.
  6. H&S is nothing to do with safety its a paperwork excercise to pass the buck further down the line. When the large organisation grinds to a halt it goes straight out the window. When I carry out routine service work need to book in 48 hrs before with rems normally plus 16 pages for a 1 hour service. Next week bet I dont fill anything out lights go out generator engineer goes in. Stay safe and watch out for your selves dont rely on the pen pushers they will be in melt down if it happens again.
  7. Perhaps we should have a show us your concrete thread. People cant understand why I get excited about a bit of concrete but the difference it makes to your working day is massive no more sludging about in mud and you can sweep up.
  8. employed by older wiser richer men
  9. In 1987 I had a new 3 day old transit running around sorting generators a tree fell on the bonnet. Got the disc cutter out and cut it off drove round for 5 days with no bonnet. Cant afford a new transit this time round so should have no problems
  10. Formal training, qualifications and years on the job = experience
  11. Never really thought of pop as being of any value for milling will keep an eye out if I can recognise it.
  12. If you are looking for big butts or have some add your name to the list. If you need to clear big softwood butts or nice oak and beech for milling. I have room in the yard and can come to site and clear 3 tonnes at a time. could possibly drop bobcat for loading. Poplar and douglas ideal cut to about 8ft long up to 30" wide . Can't get an arctic in but most other things inc big tractor and trailer. North Hampshire?/ Andover can pm mobile if needed.
  13. We had a vw LT35 van the battery leaked the engine Ecu was directly underneath you can guess the rest.
  14. If anyone wants to add their details on here even if close to Andover please do I it may help people to print off a list of possible takers if things do get rough.
  15. Experience is when you can pee with the seat down and leave no evidence and not get found out by err in doors.
  16. The substrate round here is chalk about 4 " under the dirt. If you disturb it 4 weeks later you cant touch it with a fork. I gave up trying to dig the veg beds by hand years ago. Now I just get the mini digger on it. I have always put 6" of premix without mesh but 4" it would go alot further.

  18. I was weighing that up today. I think it could be a good few inches higher than wider and as you say trim 4 or 5 " off the top. I am thinking chainsaw two sides so it squeezes through. I have had too much generator work in the last year to do the mill justice but now I have started need to make sure I dont get distracted and engrossed its a bit addictive. Its only pop but when you go in doors it shows up all the melamine and formica
  19. I think it is 22 one end and about 30 the other so 3 or 4 " all round. The row of stems in the picture on the left most are too fat one end. My miser takes max 750cm or 29 in but I would think it needs to be dead straight.
  20. Thanks for the relies. The reason I did not buy a peterson or Lucas in the first place was cost, noise and extra waste. But being able to do big stuff I think out weighs all these problems also probably cheaper than running a 60kva generator. The stem on the bobcat is too fat one end how would you reduce it to get it through the mizer. Was thinking of trimming it free hand with chainsaw is that a bit mad.
  21. I think the slightly mature member may use them less as years ago we just did not have them so developed practices that meant we were aware of a live blade and always positioned the saw out of harms way. Now people seem to stand there with the saw running and the blade tapping their boot ?
  22. Thanks for your advice I will try chocking it up next time will probably help the kindlet as well. I need to reorganise my other kit to make room but may just connect to the dust extractor when I can afford the hoses. Will try the bigger stems when I have help.
  23. If you had a bobcat and big jcb running over a 6m x 6m pad what thickness would you use and would you reinforce it. I never thought about putting polythene down before I guess this would make it more workable for longer and give it more of a chance to self level.
  24. Dead handy a resident concrete engineer It occured to me getting 6 metres of concrete 1/5 mile down a track is going to take some time and they only wait 1/2 hour also it will be going hard at the end. Can you borrow one of those big diesel site mixers and do it all onsite. Another idea would be hot lay tarmac and put down wood when jacking things up.
