  1. Honda crv fold your legs up great reliability and dealers. Toyota rav 4 reliable well made. Landrover discovery 3/4 great to drive lovely car trendy and sort after don't worry about the fuel consumption you won't notice that will cost more than the average mortgage per month to repair complete junk underneath.
  2. Up to 15" no problem we had 28" stuff on today with an inch clearance as we got to the centre we were having problems. If I do my apprenticeship on a little lt15 I should be model cutomtomer for a log master. We turn over about £600 a week on kindling so need the sums to add up and the wood at the right price. The cross cutting I have down to a fine art automatic with conveyor. We have a lot more enquires than we can fill. The wood Mister is defo fussy on grain and tension. I am used to setting up v16 common rail diesel engines so know the difference between finely tuned and badly engineered. I like over engineered
  3. Run them over if they have a tag on your in the clear
  4. I have an ms180 at the back of the shed I would say stick with the mccullock get some time in and go mid range stihl. Our 180 is as new and we don't even bother with it to prune roses. I would say un even teeth as has been said rather than worn bar.
  5. I tend to think if we can't build a prison to keep them in I won't keep them out
  6. Hours of fun today once we had the machine set up right I found some of our problems over the last few days were caused by tension in the wood as we cut down one side. We reacted to this by adjusting the mill rather than turning the stick 180 deg. We are now also more careful about making sure we have the centre of the grain level. I think we are doing about half a tonne an hour or 40 bags of kindling at times it could be double.
  7. I thought Bryant and may own forest full of the stuff but cost more to extract than they can buy and ship in.
  8. I had a bad experience with larch too many knots but may have been unlucky. I like df and western red currently using poplar. Can't get an arctic in here has to be 8 wheeler have a jcb 525 with forks to unload so may not need a crane. I love auctions know just how to play that game bring it on
  9. 180 cube = 60 cubic metres = 6000 bags of kindling shame your not closer
  10. Debarkers what when why how much don't tell my wife she will have 3. Sounds ideal. Looking at the job yesterday I was thinking I don't want this even if its free due to the hassle of jet washing and paying for transport. The other thing I noticed is the trees are spaced out and not very straight. Ie knots and bends.
  11. I am always booked at least 12 months in advance with 2 days a week spare normally work 6 days. I never answer the phone 9 times out 10 its a sales call let the answer phone get it. Phone lines have been down for 4 days now not made a difference. I like emails it saves all the you said I said hassle also if customer puts job on back burner I can pick it up again in 6 months if I drink 6 pints of cider memories of my first 45 years have gone I am now at the age when you have to write everything down.
  12. Do you have big knot free stuff I could make kindling out of. 20 in stuff is good for the Mizer. How much would it cost for an 8 wheeler to Andover Hampshire.
  13. I have been milling poplar to make kindling and have been offered 75 tonnes that will be skidded through a river and muddy bank. Obviously it will blunt the mizer blades. Jonathan advised jet wash which would be a good idea. Considering its a low profit job is it worth the time and hassle or would you pass it by ?
  14. You may have to throw the old fridge and mattress off first.
  15. A 6 tonne grain trailer will be about 6 cu metres. 50 % will be air = 3 tonne I would say that pile of wood will be 5-8 tonnes. I get 3 tonne on my ifor and it would be at least 2 loads but not 3
  16. If you get the right size spring it is a tight fit on the stool the more you overload the tighter it fits can't fall out just assists the leaf spring.
  17. Put a car coil spring that fits over the metal bump stop. There was a thread a few weeks ago I put some pics up. Best of all worlds costs pennies and it does not make the back end rock hard when empty.
  18. Where are they roughly ?
  19. Thanks Jonathan I am sure your right on all counts. I remembered after posting that when the stem was the other way round it was trying to cut down because the guide wheel stopped turning. We had the timber leveled and chocked. When we turned it end for end it tried to start cutting up hill. I dont think we gave it a bump but its possible. The blades came with the machine 15 of them, 7 were meant to be sharp the rest used so could be 3 unlucky blades many more to follow. We did start to notice poor results so took the opportunity to move and level the bed. My next idea is to put spacers on the bed and a string line. Before I adjust anything will try another stem and may be try some more blades. It was working fine sunday day later turn sour. We were getting a cubic metre an hour out inc cross cutting it. Picture of the stem below they are a bit big for a lt15 I may try chainsawing a metre off the fat end.
  20. Have some big butts of poplar and have been cutting like butter. Have put a stem on the miser that is just above the felling cut and tapers from 25" down to 20. No matter what I do from either end the blade enters the cut and within 6 in it is tracking up by an inch looks, feels and sounds bad. I have changed 3 different blades. My miser cant have gone that far out of adjustment so quickly and I am just on one section of bed. Is it because the stem is so near the root and the blade is following the grain.
  21. What are you clearing we may be able to help if there is a lot We are in Andover.
  22. Its good we did not loose to many trees and hopefully no one got hurt. Its probably good to have a dress rehearsal focuses peoples minds to get prepared.
  23. Thanks for the contacts will give them a bell in next few days. The more contacts the better especially if everyone is busy.
  24. How many hours run. Looks older than 1983. Only 2 wd drive so alot of weight for the front axle.
