  1. Yeah not to mention the £10 in cherry for the tele the wear and tear and the hour it takes of your time. The bill for the scratch on their trailer you may get £70 gross if your lucky.
  2. Does that mean people might slow down chipping stuff we can make into kindling. I might actually be able to buy joinery off cuts for less than £20 a tonne again
  3. How many cubic metres of solid timber in a cord I am guessing 2.5 - 3 . If they offer £8 a tonne I would guess it costs £25 a tonne after it lands in their yard. Around this way they are paying £25-£30 standing.
  4. No I dont think thats what he said. I understand you will get 2.2 loose cubes even stacked those crates have air space.
  5. No one is having a go. You earn a living its up to you what you charge. But if one of the wood merchants moves in and pushes you out you will not be able to hold your price to £60 a metre if you have to buy in cord. I cant put a ro ro in to fill up as everyone round me sells for £60 a metre. So for now I am out.
  6. I have tried this a few times. When you collect they look like they are chewing lemons. They either half fill the truck, its 38% or full of crap. I nearly bought two ro ro skip fulls a few years ago about 80 cu metres but when it came to invoice time they wanted the retail public price then put another 20% vat on. I left them to drive it all round the country side dropping a metre at a time.
  7. Its probably not for me to say and you may have something already. I would have a template Dear John letter " this is your warning any more your out " You should not need to do it but if its a hand full of people it should be easy. Some people seem to think its some sort of free government resource a bit like citizens advice. People dont have an automatic right to use the forum. I try not to retaliate if attacked on here as it just escalates but it has got harder over the last year.
  8. good to hear I think it depends on area and if they have a rise in this sort of theft and need to stamp on it. Often its a crime no so you can claim on your insurance.
  9. Unfortunately I dont think they will be in the slightest bit interested. Even if they cleaned you out it would take 3 days to send an office plod and that would just be to keep you quiet.
  10. Years ago had a 110 with transfer box from 90 so would do 60mph flat out great for towing 3.5 tonne. Did a round trip on motorway of 200 miles foot to the floor when I got back had a speeding ticket 3 points and a photo of generator. Been through 50 mph road works
  11. So if cord costs £20 a tonne delivered in someone is making a lot of money because its now £60 a tonne and someone has normally picked all the processor sized stuff out.
  12. You get some right strange people on here. I have never felled a tree in my life I service and install big generators been on here 4 years for all I know I irritate the hell out of everyone
  13. And no gas or electric so get some logs and candles
  14. Thanks for posting those links I feel new toy maybe this week. I have a few loads of this pop too small for the mizer and some of it a bit spongy. I was thinking of pressure washing it but the neighbours think I am mad already.
  15. Hi Alec I see what you mean about the spud good idea especially if it keeps the bands sharp longer. I have been messing around with different samples of pop and found older larger butts grown in forest have less knots and are more willing to let the bark go in some cases it just falls off. I think the bark falls of larch ok as well. Apart from the bark problem other species like douglas, western red cedar etc I think would be just as good. Steve
  16. Agreed but when you go out for a drink the small weedy ones with the big mouths wind their necks in when they see the size of you I think that may be a problem with all forums as their is a lack of human interaction.
  17. I am not even going to look steve there is only one forum for me
  18. whoops no offence to helmets
  19. I thought this thread was to warn the helmets
  20. Spot on you know you are set for the winter and they will be dry. Gives you a sort of warm feeling just looking at it
  21. Which members will benefit if we are snowed in for 3 months. The time to stock up on logs is July even if they do look untidy in ones garden.
  22. Thanks for taking the time to write that I know how long it takes to put a post like that together. I think I have a good understanding of what your thinking. I think I understand enough about the mechanics of the machine to stay safe and not damage anything. Just need to make it efficent. What is a spud ?. I will get a few butts on this week and give it a try.
  23. Would appreciate some advice from some seasoned millers. Used our wood miser LT15 for about an hour and give up. I need to plank up poplar to put through our automatic up cut saw then through the kindlet. I give up due to the waste and time taken about a year ago . I am thinking of going for larger buts say 15-20" and using the slab wood as well. We tend to make neat kindling with no bark content but pop the bark drops off when seasoned. My upcut saw takes about 250mm x 70mm max but in 4m lengths is that too heavy to be efficent to lift about. How would you go about carving up the butt considering accuracy does not matter and what size would you make the planks.
  24. I looked at the L200 and did not like the 3500 mile servicing in those days the horrible gear change, the low gearing and crap gear change poor 1973 feeling seats etc. But in hindsite I should have left the Navara alone as well that drives better but falls to bits and blows up as well.
  25. Chap who works for me occassionally bought a 53 plate, one owner mint condition 30,000 miles engine let go taking out the clutch, flywheel and gearbox luckily bought from main dealer work done under warranty never sounded right after that got rid.
