I am compiling a young persons phrase book so we can communicate more effectively on site. A few to start To be honest with you ( I am lying through my teeth ) To be fair ( I am still lying through my teeth if I stand my ground the old git might back down ) For sure ( I am not listening to a word you said had me tea break now focused on Lunch ) "Yea but" followed by very fast speech ( I am not doing that ) In it ( no idea on this one but its on the end of most sentences ) -

I find when reading jons posts if you ignore and miss out half of it put the first half last and read it backwards it makes sense. If still struggling add back in some of the bits you missed off. -
I should have said 70 showing on the dash and all Landrover speedos show 10mph more than your doing it, massages their customers egos you know

Do you get a feel for someones age by the posts and responses. Feels like the average age has dropped recently on Arbtalk.

there is no perfect vehicle otherwise we would all have one. The defender ticks alot of boxes for alot of people. I think they are a bit like marmite.

Either the hilux is made by vw or the amarak is made on the hilux line with a vw lump in it

We had 3 300tdi over about 8 years for towing. They all suffered with head gasket failure between pots 3 and 4, cambelts snapping and water pumps were cheap and nasty with one little bearing. Every time they needed discs the bearings had to come off and no guts for towing at 70mph. Saying that I towed over 300k between them and felt they were still a good truck at the time dont be afraid of getting a td5 if its genuine. Our TD5 has now done 160k without any major engine work. If you get a good one and look after it they are a good truck. Get a bad one that has been abused or cooked then you are in big trouble. The void bushes are far better and the discs are knock on knock off so 1 hr and £50 for a pair.

From my experience of towing big generators about for 25 years. You need a truck with permanent 4 wheel drive weighing ideally over 2500kg. It needs a low first gear and a good sturdy clutch. Forget autos we have wrecked even the Amazon 4.2 autos. Air suspension on the back or coil springs leaf springs rarely work well when towing. The worst vehicle I have towed with was the d22 Navara we had 16 trailers at the time and it was poor with all of them you could see the cab jumping around on the light weight springy chassis.

True in hindsight the defender weighs around 2 tonne and is not great for towing 3.5 tonnes it does have the edge on alot of the double cabs because it has permanent 4 wheel drive. The new discos are better as they weigh far more

None of these trucks are any good they have heaters what are the Landrover geeks going to do with their thermal underwear

Anything that weighs under 2.5 tonne and is not permanent 4x4 is not going to be ideal for towing 3.5 tonnes. The Amazon, disco 3/4 and defender are ok.

I hired a hilux for 3 months in 2002 while I waited for the fantastic new Nissan Navara. What a pile of crap that was should have got a mk 5 hilux straight off will never wait for a new model again especially a Ford or Nissan.

We used to sell car parts on ebay to send 1kg is expensive, easier to send 10kg and you know it will arrive next day.

They like alchohol on the breath is your wife tee total. I was getting a few bites a couple of weeks ago so switched the fly zapper back on seems to help. Also make sure the are no buckets of stale water nr your house.

But round wood could be rings. With the term cordwood it puts a stack of timber in lengths in mind. -
Part of the reason I use a bench grinder so much is the crap files are blunt after two chains of course the main reason is my hand sharpening is crap aswell

When its green they sell by the tonne when its seasoned they sell by the metre and increase the price as well. Your right their not daft
