  1. Fast burning firewood is often free and saves you going down the gym. The only timber I am not keen on in a wood burner is oak.
  2. Yes Jon bought used and sold. Dont know what happen to trailer in pic just come by it.
  3. I was on my way to cherry products to decide what to spend regards brakes on our Timber trailer. Partly due to seeing this I decided on new air brake system through out. That is my discovery you can see in the distance bit spooky I thought someone was trying to tell me something.
  4. If your boss is avoiding vat I bet he has avoided the whole insurance thing as well. I would be keen to see if any insurance is in place and if you are covered on it.
  5. I have bought the cheap smelly parafin ones from a manufacturer in hull. They would be about 30p a pack now. You will need to spend £600 to get that price. They sell for £1-£2. So £600 0ut at least £1800 back in
  6. I would agree I have moved green oak and ash was not too bad but green pine and beech incredibly heavy. Mostly beech around here
  7. No Jon anything related to making logs long gone
  8. I like to have twice as much brakes as I need. If I am short on power I have gears and two fingers. If you are towing large loads of timber about you cant carry on like people did 15 years ago unless you like porridge. We had two axles that were rated 8 tonnes ea but were test for 100% overload when built. The whole lot was maintained and up together. Thats how I liked it different people different strokes I suppose.
  9. Your more than likely right we never pulled 14 tonne. Tractor and trailer often used to top 28 tonnes before we dropped a few tonne back off. And yes I am sure we used to go too fast.
  10. If you were going to spend 9k on a crane would you put it on a used trailer that needs work. 400kg is alot of weight for the hitch to handle and not great for the truck if its loaded. It put less nose weight on if you stretch the crane out and secure on the tailboard.
  11. similar set up to what we did but your on a bigger scale. I have seen those concrete sides when they pile salt for the winter. If you need to make a living thats the way to do it in my opinion.
  12. Its alot easier with processor and log deck. The hard work is dealing with some of the public.
  13. Looking closer you are right probably tows better with the nose weight unloaded suprised the trailer only weighs 850kg
  14. Superb a proper usefull bit of kit. Surprising how the smaller trailers with no sides or ramps you can save weight over the 18ft triaxle things you see about.
  15. I never worried too much about power verses weight as its fairly flat round here. The thing I paid more attention to was stopping it all. You often will end up with more weight on than you planned. With green cord wood you can get allot of weight in a small space. We had commercial air brakes with proper large brake linnings. I never felt safe with a small tractor ie 100 hp and hyd brakes if the hydraulic hose fails at the top of a hill how are u going to stop it. If you are going to pull 14 tonnes + behind you need 160hp and 4x4 then at least if the worst happens you have have a good chance of not killing half the village.
  16. That looks a nice crane but must weigh 1500kg on its own. Would be good if you can load another trailer all day long.
  17. I think the confusion comes from 1 cu metre bags are 1mx1mx1m so to the layman a .5 cu metre bag should look half the size or 500mm x500mm x 500mm but of course its 800mm all round so does not look half the size. Its an optical illusion unless you put the two bags side by side.
  18. Yes they have already included an extra £70 in their price.
  19. The most I ever saw was a two gallon bucket full but we used to process green beech then season in vent bags for 18 months. Part seasoned beech would shatter an make mess
  20. Sat on beach at Burton bradstock watching the waves come in not a cloud in the sky going to be hot one today.
  21. If they are paying £200 a cube for snob logs then got to be done. If they are paying the average £100 a cube then wtf is going on with the world. You don't charge by weight and the bark is not taking up volume. I am sure normal people are prepared to collect a few bits in their dust pan when THEY have finished stacking.
  22. I have a year old varta battery in the workshop shows good voltage off load ie 13 volts but no cranking and our drop tester could not test it as the volts disappear as soon as a load is applied
