  1. We dont sell logs. But we have sold 12,000 bags of kindling this year so far. I think there must be a good demand for it maybe not every one has time to sit with a hatchet luckily
  2. Would you consider it the ideal machine for cutting and splitting 6" logs. I had a hakki 2x before and it was too vague on the stop to cut accurate. Also 50% would drop side ways before automatically being mashed sideways. I like the manual control on the splitter and the honda engine option as we have now sold all our tractors.
  3. After my experience of making kindling over the last year and seeing the other kindling thread thought I would put my thoughts down in print. The days of cheap oil, gas, electric, logs and kindling may be comming to an end. Two years ago my material cost to make a bag of kindling inc bag was around 30p this week I am struggling to keep material cost below £1. Our summer orders this year are roughly double and we are having to purchase timber at a cost of £40 a tonne delivered in. A tonne of timber makes about 80 bags of kindling and needs to be dried. Whoever you get your kindling from dont leave it too late as you may be disappointed go easy on you supplier as we are getting stuffed by the biomass boys who get big subsidies to buy cord this has pushed the price up. We enjoy what we do and look forward to meeting all our customers we are doing all we can to make sure we have enough dry kindling to supply through the winter. If anyone knows of a nice pile of fresh 12" pop with no knots going cheap I will be a happy man
  4. The farmi 36 from Riko does 14" timber and starts at £7000. I am in the market for a machine to prep 6" logs for kindling. Will get a demo soon. I am thinking most 36 cm machines are the wrong side of 11k ?
  5. I found that interesting. Not knocking it but we dont sell many 16" logs. Hanging onto a 880 all day long is very hard work. If your sharpening is not spot on a banana cut could be interesting with all that metal around. If you get your billets the right length then you can put them through a processor with no waste. Or better still buy a big processor and proper cord wood.
  6. We are bottom of the m3 if you are that way. Especially interested in poplar and clean knot free softwood for making kindling. If I have room can take stuff for our wood burner Best to give us a shout to make sure we are about.
  7. It looks like there could be a shortage of firewood this winter so if you are approved or not you will sell timber anyway.
  8. I bet it will still get sold for a tight margin once logged all winter. The price will be set by the fly by nights in september.
  9. Sorry about that. My PC in the house has died in the hot weather so struggle to get the time to get on here in the day. Have cleared out a load does anyone know how to save the messages elsewhere on a PC
  10. Its already on wheels so you could convert the brakes to air or oil ? and go the 5th wheel route
  11. The wheel bearings always look too small on an indespension but it may just be me they are probably more than up to the job and alot cheaper than the cartridge bearings ifor use. Anyone found this
  12. Ifor still make a good robust trailer but have reduced quality in alot of areas probably to stay competetive with other makes. I dont like the rubber block suspension units they either fall to bits or work harden and make the trailer jump around when empty. There is alot of poor quality recycled steel in china often its difficult to apply galvanising to it.
  13. I have been trying pop this week and it makes really good kindling. The transport would kill it even if it was free. Logman is in your county he would be your best bet.
  14. Currently supplying 40x50 clean pine about 4kg when bone dry. £1.80 + vat currently booked till November. Biggest problem is getting raw material when biomass market is paying so much per tonne.
  15. I bought a new i for box trailer about 6 months ago it had so many faults the dealer took it back and refunded in full.
  16. Yes I came across it last weekend although cant see the fifth wheel I assume it must be seperate. No idea on the law on fifth wheel towing but I know someone who was going to produce trailers to take advantage of the 8250kg with out o licence. That gmc looked wide with enough power sensible fuel consumption low miles and not knackered and about 20k cheaper than a mog.
  17. Some vehicles like utility Land rovers from the gas board actually come with a pto underneath. Their transits have a pto to drive a compressor and generator. That way you could still drive it about the yard so its not in the way.
  18. I think there is an american truck on ebay with 5 th wheel low miles and cheap 6.5 litre diesel.
  19. Because I would imagine these things just have to be done. My best business decisions were made with heart and absolutely no common sense. By the time you have made a for and against list it has sold.
  20. JCB fastrak or mb trak with roof mount crane worth considering
  21. Most of the processors only need about 13hp to run them so most of these ideas will probably work. If you can get the shaft spinning at around 540 rpm when the load goes on it will not have much effect on a car engine. Probably better to buy a honda engine with pump and put it in a generator enclosure.
  22. I doubt you will have enough 1ph to drive a big motor like that. I would look at a silent genny or donkey engine with pto drive. or fit a honda 13hp and suffer the noise.
  23. I dont think the u1000 is as well thought of as the old round shape u900 the u1000 is a heavy truck with a 4 cyl sprinter engine. If you are going to tow things get a u1700 or bigger.
  24. This is what happens if you are towing a caravan and dont give way to the tractor
