  1. She may have been driving at a more sensible speed and luck was on her side.
  2. A car is tax deductable at 25% a year up to a max of 12k a year. So dont go for a new range rover. They may have moved the goal posts since I last looked. IF your vat registered you will have to pay about £50 a quarter for your personal use.
  3. I have a 320d touring heavy little beast for a smallish car. Wondered what they were like for towing.
  4. I have a portek thing and used to cut logs with it. I had one kick back a few weeks back and its now thrown on the heap. They are ok if your last log can be 12" some barbs in the trough may help. Also I was using the ms220 stihl electric saw which has alot more low end torque than the petrol saws.
  5. Unless he has not finished the job yet and he will drop a huge load of logs and some cash in the next few days.
  6. BMw 320d touring imo drives the best out of the estates. Bit small in the boot. 50mpg not been the most reliable let down by silly bits of plastic in the engine rest of car top quality. Would I buy another yes but get rid of swirl flaps if you buy one.

    Generator

Get a genuine honda engine not a naff chinese copy. 5kva is an economical size to buy then you know you are going to start your freezers and can sneek the odd large appliance on ie dish washer or tumble dryer. For just 2 freezers and a few lights I would go 3 kva minimum. If you think you may be off for a few days a pramac p6000s diesel set is ideal but your looking at 3k with vat. At the moment the uk can produce 40% more power than we need within 2-5 years it will be down to 5% especially if the economy recovers. I think we will be in for rolling black outs.
  8. A dmax with 2 bags and small trailer should not weigh over 3.5 tonne so you should not need a tacho. Most double cabs weigh about 1700kg mt
  9. wp 36 Good machine JimE was good enough to demo it to us a few weeks ago at Riko. As been said not too many guards and I am sure the splitter has the power to cope with orrible stuff. Its probably half the price of a Dallen.
  10. processors like 8" straight pine not big nurly crowns. The dalen seems to be the machine if there is one as the mouth is big enough without too many guards to get in the way.
  11. The only way you are going to save your back is processor, log deck and use your loader which is a lot of money if you are doing less than 500 tonnes a year. The only other option is concentrate on arb waste which is normally cut to small lengths. you could get a vertical splitter and use it without a stool use hookeroons to pull it on the foot of the splitter.
  12. As been said put pressure on to get your bacs go and see them. If you check them out online and find they are looking shaky careful of what you issue as they may pull the plug and you wont see a penny of your money. If they look poor on line dont work for them again unless they pay up front. Since 2009 we had a few companies that took 7 months to pay. We are really busy so now demand payment up front before we do the job. Generator installs for good companies are split into stage payments and the generator does not leave the works until the cost price is covered.
  13. Have you weighed yours empty. The plate on ours says 2550kg loaded. Ours weighs 2000 kg empty.
  14. Go Have a look get Jones to check out the serial no in case its one of theirs.
  15. +1 I like the flimsy guide because I don't always want to grind. The whole chain to the shortest tooth so I can cheat.
  16. I bought a lidl one a few years back and it works perfect. The pawl is a bit mickey mouse made of plastic but I work that to my advantage. If you need to finish by hand somethings wrong. I dress the wheel occasionally with an old diamond cutting disc from a grinder reduces sparks and heat build up and squares the grinding disc back to standard. Being an engineer I am a di hard electric grinder fan. Dont hand sharpen enough to keep the skill. I am used to getting the best out of power tools and grinders.
  17. I have never seen logs make good money at an auction too many people brow bashing and tut tutting.
  18. I have been to Riko for a demo. Good machine I thought for the money. Where else are you going to get a machine that loads the timber, handles 14" and does not need a tractor to drive it and gives change of 8k.
  19. My understanding is most plant is 100% deductable. But if you are paying 25% tax you are still picking up 75% of the cost on a 10k chipper you will reduce your tax bill by £2500.00 . If you take finance or hp as its often called they ban snatch it back even if you owe as little as £1. If you get a personal load its alot harder for them, Not saying you are going to default on the repayments but if its a personal loan and a tool for your living Bailiffs will have a hard job getting their hands on it. Who knows what the future holds and the mortgage and feed kids comes first.
  20. If you could afford it you would not need finance
  21. The generator forums are boring and it reminds me of work.
  22. I used to pay half and personal load the rest ie new truck if really needed. I used to do at least 50k miles a year so had to be new. The thing I learnt was you can only pedal one bike at a time. Lots of toys sitting in the yard are not earning money. I would try and find more work for the mewp and save up the money for the next bit of kit. If you use the kit daily it may be worth borrowing for it to save breakdowns and improves your image.
  23. I found if you go into most companies every one wants euro pallets and popular sizes. But if you go in to most companies with a pile of pallets they will be glad to get rid of a trailer load of odd sizes for free.
  24. I have a 751 bobcat if I am on grass I tease it round corners sometimes with a 5 point turn. Yes it marks it because of the weight but within a few days the grass pops back up.
  25. My brother has nebosh I dont understand why he did it and I dont think he does either. Do people who get these qualifications actually do the physical work or just over see people doing it ? I am not anti health and safety as its in my interest to stay alive. But often I find its an arse covering exercise set up to pass the buck if something does go wrong.
