  1. I put 8 one cube metre bags of kiln dried to 14% softwood on my trailer which weighs 1000kg mt . The trailer is near 3500kg when loaded. I would say a 0.7 tonne bag full of rain wet beech in January when you are tempted to push the boundries of "dry" will weigh at least 350kg.
  2. And thats just the td5 move on to a d3 or 4 and you can times everything by 10
  3. I bought a 20 litre bucket of paint off ebay and noticed the seller had a negative because the courier scratched the can. Damned if you do damned if you dont.
  4. I think you are all right including agrimog. Question is as individuals what can we do about it. I always felt the best training came from the older employees nearing the end of there working life and keen to pass on their knowledge to the next generation. But lots these people have had enough of the stress and taken low paid, low stress jobs which dont actually pay much less.
  5. I agree just bought a vito in white no air con 3 years old mint condition. everything shiney and well speced on the forecourt was twice the mileage and price. They stick an extra 10k on the pickups for the chrome and carpets. When you bash a colour coded bumper it has to be sprayed. A black one just screwed on.
  6. would be ok if you could come to some arrangement and take you processor there and process into bags. The first pic makes the stuff look poor but there is some decent stuff in there. I have had worst from certain wood merchants
  7. As small businesses I think we give large companies credit too easily. They send us plenty of forms to fill out rems etc. Return the favour and make them work for an account and while you are about it pay the small fee and get a credit check on them. I find alot of small firms just open an account without any details and then raise an invoice with 30 days what happen to by return post ?
  8. The mk5 hilux double cab with the d4d engine on a 52 plate was a good vehicle but only tows 2000kg. The mk4 was heavy on fuel.
  9. Unless the engine runs like a watch walk away. Make sure it has good service history. The loom and fuel reg are almost service items cost about £90 ea and take an hour to fit. Our td5 was good but I think we were just lucky
  10. After 22 years running my business my used generators go out with an up front straight forward comprehensive warranty of 30/30 30 yards or 30 seconds whichever comes first
  11. We had this problem in 2009 no credit in our direction and large companies taking the mick. Answer cancel all accounts and only leave the ones open to regular spenders that paid on time. The customer is lucky to get 30 days credit. if they go over we can either close the account and they pay pro forma or credit card or we can offer a finance agreement by a 3rd party where we get commission. I doubt I will make many friends in business but then I am not in business to make friends.
  12. That does look cheap. I have a ms180 but its only useful for cutting up pallets, hardwood sleepers, telegraph poles and roots basically gets all the rubbish jobs because its a cheap little chain to replace. I would imagine even cutting 5in sticks will be painfully slow. my ms260 is slow enough.
  13. NFU want £525. I seem to remember someone saying they had co op which was less than £100 a year.
  14. What sort of price should I be paying to drive a jcb telehandler on the road.
  15. I think I would look at a 4600 ford or similar with a cab not the smaller fords which are made under licence by the japs we had one and the rear windscreen was £475. A big little tractor
  16. Yeah Porton Down is just up the road you should see what I got on my forehead
  17. my metabo jigsaw since it crushed my left main index finger between the body and the 6mm hex head that holds the blade. Smashed the finger and now cant feel a thing nail is soft. I keep my left hand well out the way now did that ever hurt jelly legs aswell.
  18. The things we used to do to make kindling
  19. I bought one from Wales really efficient you could cut the fingers off both hands at the same time. Sold mine while I still had 10 fingers.
  20. But you still charged £35 an hour with out your price they may of not bothered or gone out for more prices. If I have to pay £120 an hour to get my hedge cut I will take the day off.
  21. The way I looked at it when I started out is big firms may have the kit to knock a £1000 job out in a day but so what I dont have their overheads. If the job took 2-3 days as long as I was not booked solid I would rather take my time and do the job safely. Complete the job too quick some customers start wondering where their cash went.
  22. I am not a tree man but was that tree worth saving ? I know what my wife would tell me to do if I sent her out in a very old Mondeo to pick up firewood at the side of the road
  23. A non fault accident should not raise your premium too much. The insurance take on it is you did not cause the accident but you did not avoid it either. I have had engineers have near misses while I am co pilot because they were in the right after a substantial amount of ear burning and retraining they can now drive to avoid problems. The roads are full of blind deaf stupid idiots and if you know that and keep calm life will be much easier.
  24. I gained a government contract years ago because we were already doing one off repairs and had proved our selves reliable. When we arrived to service the sets the manager showed us the tenders and we were 3 times the price of the nearest quote so its not always about the lowest price.
  25. Hi Eddie I went into Th White in Devizes for some Aspen and was surprised they had not heard of it or the stihl stuff. They are a large dealer ship and have at least four huge sites. I burnt both his ears for a good few minutes about the benefits and he seemed interested commented on how I should be a salesman then run down the yard as fast as he could. I think he is either gagging for a supply or I have destroyed any possibility of getting in there I have no idea which but think it would be worth a phone call
