  1. I bought one of these about 3 years ago and bought an extra one just to get a spare disc ( lazy git ) been fine and does a good job. You have to be aware the clamp is mostly plastic which can give you a bit of artistic licence which can be a good or bad thing. I have used the edge of a diamond disc to true up the grinding disc a few times but not fitted a new disc yet.
  2. I thought I would put a few of my experiences on as we have been making wholesale kindling since 2009. I hope it does not come across as trying to put people off because we make it for fun and as small wage for my wife it helps not to have all our eggs in one basket so to speak. Other people may have different faster better set up methods and get more out but we dont kill our selves but also dont hang around. We supply a nice well filled neat monofilament bag 40x50 mostly new joinery off cuts. The cost of the material, the transport, the bag and the electric leaves us with about 40p per bag for the labour. With decent timber you can get 50 neat bags an hour out of the kindlet with two people add in the time to cut the timber to 6" I work on we get 25 bags an hour. 25x40p = £10.00 an hour luckily we own the building. I have tried most species and found the best to be pine joinery off cuts. I think poplar makes good kindling and we have bought a woodmizer to plank and then cross cut large butts. However a few of our large customers have expressed a preference not to have pop. The main reason is it can be a bit stringy in the bag and when dry the bag feels light. Unless its bone dry when kindled it will grow black mould on the ends. Our machine was no 200 and something and since then fuelwood have made another 500 machines. I have no idea if there is enough demand to keep everyone busy but there seems to be lots of people starting up in kindling this year. If you are looking to make 500 bags to sell yourself I would look carefully at the maths. if you make them with your own machine you will work 20 hours to save £200 and spent 15k to do it. If you make 10,000 bags you will make £4000 for 400 hrs work.
  3. I use a cheap version of wd 40 give the files a blast seems to help remove swarf
  4. I go round a 4ft bar once or get 2 or 3 18" bars out of a file. You could push them further but how much hourly rate verses £1 file
  5. I had free banking with barclays years ago as long as we had 7k in the acct. Then they changed it. Then they lost 40k of cheques and took 6 weeks to own up and sort it. Then 18 months later they did exactly the same again. They also demanded a six month torture/interigation/interview to see if they could sell you ppi or similar. Been with santander about 10 years no charges no mistakes
  6. Thanks for the post daniel I seem to remember you had a big trailer load with mesh sides ? We have more than enough material to last the winter just got to keep up with demand now. Let us know if you need more.
  7. I have an unlined chimney in a bungalow. I get at least 5 litres of soot every year. Beech logs dried for 3 years. Wet or dry do I care ? No life is too short its only bricks.
  8. 50x40 neat filled new joinery off cuts of pine in monofilament bags. £1.80 + vat collected. Pallet freight can be arranged but it comes in at around £60 on top for a pallet of 90 bags. We have sold all the stock we made over the summer and now making it to order first come first serve.
  9. everytime you make a cut you loose 8mm of log and create waste to clear up I used to hate doing granny logs.
  10. I have some oak in the back of the poly tunnel been there 4 years in 50 deg heat and was dead standing probably for 15 years and it still wont burn. I do have some cut bits of oak pallet and it burns like coal.
  11. Lpg engine but unlikely to find. Do the job on a windy day
  12. If anyone needs to loose some rings after a job near Andover You can tip here or I can collect 2.5 tonnes at a time with my ifor tipper. Its for my own use and need about 10 tonnes a year. If I get more I supply a few old customers. Happy to pay a few quid but cant take any chip. Would consider buying some cord. Maple or birch ok but my stove loves beech and hates Oak.
  13. I have said similar things in the past and been offered the job on the spot some people actually like that approach. Not sure if they like the humour or the honesty.
  14. I have a garden tractor with a small turn table trailer. I gave up trying to reverse it years ago I just cant get the hang of it. I think you either can or cant.
  15. I was exaggerating Jon reason I hit the Mondeo is I had trailer on and he was in my blind spot. My compressor has always been noisey I think it has been jacked up in the past.
  16. He was so upset he was screaming at the top of his voice and got back in the car while I spoke calmly to his wife. Got lots of pics somewhere my insurance company are going for a 50/50 I thought they meant they would only pay to repair half his car which I thought was fair as I only actually drove on half of it. I think part of the reason my compressor has packed up is the brackets are bent after parking on Mondeos.
  17. I buy new curtain side material from Dobie wyatt in green colour. Not horrendous price new and when new its flexible and easy to fold. I just punch holes in it for tie down. I sometimes get the end of the rolls cheap maybe 15ft by 9 for £30
  18. I thought other disco owners were waving at me but I now realise they are showing me their empty wallets. Problem is I need a van that tows 3500kg and has 4 wheel drive. Some years it could be doing 50,000 miles and needs to be on 24 hr call to support hospitals etc.
  19. Its not been a very lucky car picking up lots of damage in public car parks and I have had my first accident in 25 years. I was reversing into a parking space when a **** nipped into the space. The rear departure angle must be good because if you raise the suspension select low box and plant your boot you can get the towbar through the windscreen of a 12 plate Mondeo woops luckily being old I have double protected no claims bonus.
  20. Pirelli Zeros nice drive but only 8mm of tread when new. £180 ea Only a few tyres made in 19 inch that suit the car. Towing with 245 hp does not help especially if you enjoy the drive after the trailer is dropped off.
  21. They always say that Jon. The 300 tdi was supposed to be better than the 200. this years model is a big improvement over last sir, sign here. I used to be a compulsive fan of Landrover this disco 4 has completely cured me. Took my Amazon around west Wales last week and said to the wife wish we had the disco it would be a more rewarding drive she fell about laughing and said it would never make it there and back she is the grim reaper of Landrovers.
  22. Thanks for the advice its booked on the ferry to ireland in a couple of weeks and its supposed to be all over Scotland next week. I noticed the front tyres are nearly on the limit on the front again. 12,000 miles since changed at christmas. The td5 did 60k and 5 years on a set of tyres.
  23. I should have kept my mouth shut started it today and compressor playing up sounds like its seizeing up and messages on the dash about normal ride height only. Here we go again.
  24. I would do a search locally and not be too fussy on make. Most trucks now fall apart in one way or another. Go for genuine trucks with few owners well serviced in good condition. Most low mileage trucks I look at are hanging because they been clocked my best vehicles have been one owner 160,000 motorway miles and full service history. I would rather spend an extra grand locally and get a slightly better truck than spend 2 days looking at sheds. Auto trader always looks cheaper and more genuine than the scrap on ebay.
  25. One of the reasons for buying the navarra instead of the l200 was the l200 was every 4500 miles. 6000 mile service feels like every 5 minutes when you are busy and if doing alot of off road or towing it really needs doing at 3 k intervals. We were almost keeping our old trucks as a back up for breakdowns and when it went in for a service. Our engine never blew up but the timing chain went within a few months.
