  1. my metabo jigsaw since it crushed my left main index finger between the body and the 6mm hex head that holds the blade. Smashed the finger and now cant feel a thing nail is soft. I keep my left hand well out the way now did that ever hurt jelly legs aswell.
  2. The things we used to do to make kindling
  3. I bought one from Wales really efficient you could cut the fingers off both hands at the same time. Sold mine while I still had 10 fingers.
  4. But you still charged £35 an hour with out your price they may of not bothered or gone out for more prices. If I have to pay £120 an hour to get my hedge cut I will take the day off.
  5. The way I looked at it when I started out is big firms may have the kit to knock a £1000 job out in a day but so what I dont have their overheads. If the job took 2-3 days as long as I was not booked solid I would rather take my time and do the job safely. Complete the job too quick some customers start wondering where their cash went.
  6. I am not a tree man but was that tree worth saving ? I know what my wife would tell me to do if I sent her out in a very old Mondeo to pick up firewood at the side of the road
  7. A non fault accident should not raise your premium too much. The insurance take on it is you did not cause the accident but you did not avoid it either. I have had engineers have near misses while I am co pilot because they were in the right after a substantial amount of ear burning and retraining they can now drive to avoid problems. The roads are full of blind deaf stupid idiots and if you know that and keep calm life will be much easier.
  8. I gained a government contract years ago because we were already doing one off repairs and had proved our selves reliable. When we arrived to service the sets the manager showed us the tenders and we were 3 times the price of the nearest quote so its not always about the lowest price.
  9. Hi Eddie I went into Th White in Devizes for some Aspen and was surprised they had not heard of it or the stihl stuff. They are a large dealer ship and have at least four huge sites. I burnt both his ears for a good few minutes about the benefits and he seemed interested commented on how I should be a salesman then run down the yard as fast as he could. I think he is either gagging for a supply or I have destroyed any possibility of getting in there I have no idea which but think it would be worth a phone call
  10. The engine will be the same as any other generator so easy to service. The welder end of things is really a case of it works or it does not. If it stops working take it to someone who knows that make of welder. Sounds like stephill are worth a look as they will have a service department. Try to find a machine that has a service agent in the uk and can still get the parts for them. Dont bother with anything chinese.
  11. I am not really the person to advise you as I have very little experience of welder generators. I did see some nice lincoln welders sell at the reading auction a few months ago which must of been 10k plus new about 8 years old and were selling for £1500-£3000. Problem is where do you take them to be fixed if broken. Genset make them as well not sure if any better than Mosa. If you get a 3phase make sure it is properly reconnectable so you can get 2/3 rds of the out put as single phase. Some units will only allow you to pull single phase off ea of the 3 legs. For example if its 6kw you will only get 2kw off ea phase.
  12. I was lost for words a few days ago and still no idea what to say we have never met but so sorry to hear of your loss
  13. I dont know what speed trailer tyres are rated at but I would guess its not 70mph for 100's of miles especially when 10 years old and rotten. Its hard enough getting a trailer to the hard shoulder when the tyre has spread itself all over the carriage way. The outside lane is normally full of bmws and white vans doing 90 mph so not a good place for a trailer. I can remember losing a tyre on a long 19ft single axle caravan on the m4 in 80 degree heat. I was middle lane overtaking an arctic and was level with the cab. by the time I had pulled in behind him the wheel was trashed and what was left of the tyre was on fire luckily we were towing with a disco a lighter vehicle and I dont think we would be here.
  14. That bad boy would keep your house nice and warm. Good piece to practice on rather than a nice piece of oak. If it goes a pear shaped it will still have a use.
  15. Bobs post covers it print it off and leave in cab. I will never remember which vehicle is supposed to what when towing or solo on which road.
  16. As long as the kit looks together and not weaving about all over the place with strap ends flapping you are unlikely to get pulled at 60 mph unless very unlucky. Towing in the fast lane does attract loads of interest from the police its like christmas come early as they get to issue a ticket and get some footage for the tele.
  17. Think i read in the past commercial vehicle towing on the motorway 50 mph
  18. I think its any commercial vehicle unless its car derived 50mph duals 60 motorways. So vitos and small transits are 50 mph on dual carrige way even when solo.
  19. I have not done my trailer test but knew you cant tow in the BMW lane I got a highway code a few years ago and took the trouble to read it and was amazed how much I did not know well worth doing. All I have to do now is work out how to use traffic lights with shades on that your not supposed to be able to see but still can.
  20. I am surprised no one came back with a price from this site who is near by. Is there a problem getting in and across the site to deliver. I can remember sitting in traffic and trying to jump through hoops to get into the site to deliver hire generators. By which time it was chucking it down with rain the lorry would not of made it back out with no weight on the back. The company I was working for told them to stick it and hire the sets in elsewhere.
  21. Who cares what make it is as long as it tows over 3 tonnes starts when there is snow on the ground the heater works and I can fit inside. Less than a grand a year on repairs is good to.
  22. Exactly the same here my kids push bike to town. The speed these idiots go down the lane you are not safe in my Landcruiser. The last crash the idiot got out and said to the copper as he was stood in front of the 30 mph sign " I cant believe the amount of damage I was only doing 50 " 20 down our lane is fast with all the hidden drives I dont even have a problem with people pushing on at 40 but 70 plus someone is going to die soon.
  23. Caravan or not some people just drive like ***** these days and need slowing up. I drive a nippy vito about the country and the stunts people pull are unbelieveable. I pulled out of a junction the other day with a trailer on both ways were clear and before I had the trailer straight a rolls bentley thing over took on a blind bend. I live on a single country lane and you can tell alot of people are doing more than 70 mph when the police measure the skid marks. Idiots have been clocked doing 90 mph.
  24. I find a squirt of wd40 keeps the files clean and not dragging them on the back stroke helps them stay sharp.
  25. We insist on seeing there hired in plant insurance and if we dont know them ring to make sure it is Cosher. I want full address and vat no, web site, passport or driving licence with recent utility bill. In future I might ask for a recent mri scan and some dna ( a body part will do, a finger maybe, no rude bits )
