  1. I got my husky pole trimmer out after 6 months it had aspen in started first pull. I know aspen is expensive but when you work out the cost of the petrol you throw away after a month and the labour and material costs of the diaphrams it starts to look cheap.
  2. so reaching the allowed 24390kg GTW needs some thought and the tractor has to weigh at least 6 tonnes (and probably have 150hp) And I think you need air brakes on tractor and trailer although I am not sure if you need it legally its a good idea with 24 tonnes.
  3. I think big J is about 61/2 feet tall he would need to buy a defender double cab and sit in the back like myself
  4. I used to enjoy the work but now get my wood fix from producing kindling. For every £100 charged we seem to be left with £20 for wages. Considering the labour and time involved 10k did not seem like much for a 50k turnover.
  5. 46 now will be joining the thread in 4 years time.
  6. We were paying for cord and selling in a wealthy area where the cost of logs is on the floor. 150 tonne or 500 tonne u still need a processor and a tractor. 6 tonnes and old chainsaw and a vertical splitter I purchased 10 years ago straight into profit. We peaked at 450 tonne and can remember thinking that was the hardest 20k I ever earned. I dont regret giving it up its a hard way to earn a living respect to those still giving it a go.
  7. 6 cu metres this year. More profit this year than when I did 150
  8. I never used to go for a blow out. I used to enjoy a couple of cans of 3% dutch lager hollandia. Then Asda stopped it. So 2-3 cans of strong bow a night may be 5 at the weekend. Not had a hang over for at least 15 years but went from enjoying it to needing it. I functioned ok but you dont realise even a couple of pints a night zaps your energy levels. It helped me get to sleep but it was not quality sleep I was often yawning during the day. Now it may take ten minutes to nod off but sleep like a baby and no 3am toilet visit. I am planning to have the odd pint when out and have no problem with drinking especially if you have it under control but it can just creep up on you. If you struggle to have a couple of nights off you could be on the way to a problem. The quicker you sort it the easier it is.
  9. Can of coke and a mars bar cups of tea dont drink water.
  10. Who is still on the wagon ? been a few months now had a bottle of vodka and 6 pints of cider. I did not intend giving up but just feel better for it. Lost half a stone and not altered the eating just feel full from the water. Sleep through the night now as well. Still got energy in the evenings and not falling asleep at 9 pm.
  11. I use anything thats sharp in the box. Dormer chinese makes no odds. The reason I dont struggle is I use cutting oil. The difference is unbelieveable 1/4 thick plate is like butter even stainless is easy. Get some spray on modern super stuff your drills will last 10 times as long. Also learn to resharpen before you blue them out.
  12. If anyone is interested in a D4 someone gave me the sept edition of Land Rover International in the back is a very good write up on what to look for well worth a read.
  13. That is a good point when pulling out you need something with a bit of grunt and fast auto box to get out of the way of loonys driving over powered diesels these days.
  14. very good advice I did both after parking on a sandbank at Mudeford Harbour. Get the navigation maps for your area and have a good read u may be surprised at the amount of hazards especially at low tide.
  15. I put them in a poly tunnel and use them for other stuff including kindling. Not had a mould problem yet but could imagine left outside in the autumn it would happen. Dont seem to get people in this part of the world that just want the bottles got two free ones if interested.
  16. All the tractors round here are doing 40 mph regardless of road conditions or load.
  17. From experience third parties will want to pay cord wood prices so they have a 100% mark up. Better to put it in builders bags and let the public hand ball it in their car boots when the snow comes.
  18. I had a 60 hp suzuki on a 15 ft speed boad and we used to get a good afternoon out of 40 litres of fuel but on full throttle it would burn 20 litres an hour. the jap engines were always better on fuel than the yank ones
  19. Because I dont want to get stuck with the bottles. I cut the tops off and use a 2 inch hole cutter on the liner stops the logs falling out.
  20. Those yamaha engines were superb I would say its late 80's if it runs well it will be ok. dont run it without getting the pump wet with muffs. I would take the leg off and replace the impeller before running ( yearly job )
  21. I am on a pc and had same message about an hour ago
  22. My best discos were 110k plus because They were genuine with history. The low mileage stuff with patchy history often starship miles. My worst 2 discos 40k and this one at 60k . I think cars start falling to bits at 80k by the time they reach 100k lots of problems sorted. At the end of the day its not cost you £60,000 so you can find a way out of it if it plays up. Put the radio on and enjoy it
  23. Part of the problem with mine could have been the first owner was too lazy to take it in during warranty and get it done. After 100 k most things have settled down and been done. You wont hear most problems you will feel them through the seat or steering wheel. If it feels right and the tyres are worn evenly it is right. Most independants have the software for the d3 but not many have for d4 2010 onwards.
  24. The nasty grinding noise could be the hb actuator pulling too much cable in. Worth getting the brakes serviced and adjusted before it jams solid and u need a new unit. Look on the net for the bodsy brake bible big help. The handbrake needs loads of looking after.
  25. I have found it very capable at pulling trailers across mud even with road tyres on rivers, mountains, desserts as long as not longer than 5 miles, no problem M25 forget it.
