  1. I thought the opening post was going to be a joke I even read it twice to find the punch line.
  2. Hopefully this wont upset anyone could not resist this. The rude word is bleeped out if mods dont approve please remove but it made me laugh. If the link does not work its on u tube and its called bury my gold fish.
  3. I would say He got his experience because he bothered his butt to get his tickets. He got his position because of his experience and the tickets helped.
  4. 8 inch wood screams out for an old hakki pilki 2x about £3000 second hand. But you cant really justify that sort of money for 20 tonnes a year but it will last along time.
  5. We tried this about 5 years ago but found billets never fall the right way in a processor. We worked out if we were to carry on we would mount one of those screw splitters on a bobcat or minidigger. the other idea was mount a log splitter face down on a bobcat dice the timber and leave stood on end and chase it about until its small enough to lift on to a vertical splitter.
  6. A well designed cutting edge on an 8 tonne machine can be as good as a badly engineered 13 tonne. We have a 3 phase sheppach 9 tonne which has been fitted with an 11hp honda. I like the 2 speed pump and the adjustable stops. The auto return is good
  7. meat and veg from an independant may cost 10% more but it taste 100% better.
  8. I have both and lost both twice last year for 3 weeks at a time. You need a claim form from Bt chased them about ten times. You will never see a form as then they dont need to pay out. Bt complete joke compensation is 50p a day. Save yourself some stress and get a dongle on 3G for a couple of weeks. If you are with Bt you are the last to be connected because they treat their own customers like dirt as there is no penalty clause like there is with Sky or Talk Talk. Hope you get it sorted soon.
  9. Expensive place to shop. Staff normally have a serious bad attitude you find a pile of them in a corner having a power meeting and ask for help they look at you like dirt. Always long queues at least 4 deep at ours. Offers always sold out. I do 2000 miles a week you wont find their fuel any where near my vehicles no matter how cheap. Aldi twice the quality and half the price. I hate Tesco with a passion.
  10. Why does it always seem to be us old boys who go through the chipper or get crushed by the tractor. Perhaps the younger generation are better at risk assesment.
  11. No I am sure thats the discovery 4 currently in my drive with full MOT soon to be famous on Autotrader.
  12. I would say twice the Hilux equal to the G Wagon and half a Hummer.
  13. A good way to look at it. Our figures come out different depending on how much time it takes to prep timber. two girls working the kindlet make 40-60 neat bags an hour. With the right timber the wife can make 50 in an hour on her own. To prep joinery offcuts to 6 " I think realistically it takes half hour for 40 nets worth. But if its long lengths this comes down to 15 minutes. I would say we make £15-£20 an hour for ea hour worked which for making kindling is not bad but I think a few people buy a machine thinking they are going to knock out 70 bags an hour single handed and forget about cutting the timber down to size. Our machine was never great with cord wood.
  14. How much does a head mistress earn ? ask them to justify it . The Headmaster of our local secondary school was keen to turn into an academy as his salary would be 100k a year not bad for a failing school and in special measures.
  15. The way its going there must be nearly as many kindling machines as there are wood burners. Do people buy them just to make their kindling for log sales or wholesale as well. Margins are tight and making your own on a small scale to save a few coppers it must take forever to earn your money back.
  16. Yours sounds a good truck ours were old. I am 6ft 3 which does not help the experience. The chassis is defo tougher on the defender and the parts are cheaper. I just found 200,000 mile hilux,s to still be be ultra reliable.
  17. Exactly what I was thinking but did not want to upset the landy lovers. Unless you need to carry more than 800kg on a reglar basis for me the Hilux wins over the defender. Reliable, comfortable, heated and has doors.
  18. I like basic 10k cheaper to buy and cheaper when it breaks. Fancy interior will be trashed in a week built in sat navs never as good as the latest Tom Tom. I like air con and remote central locking though.
  19. I think due to lack of vehicles on the market they have all lost the plot. Defender or Landcruiser neither have spent much on development in the last 25 years. Defender should be £17,000 or free to the sane. That old design Landcruiser £26,000 . The new 200 series Amazon is £70,000 and well over priced. You can get a double cab hilux new for £17,000 but I agree you cant find one to test drive. I think most of us show up at dealership and drive the pimped up hair dresser version for £28,000 and go away and buy something else. They do a work version with 2.5 litre engine which is almost as good as the 3 litre and comes with cheap bumpers and mirrors which is ideal with my driving.
  20. How many bags a year do you need to make ?
  21. I took the Bridgestones of my navarra and fitted the mans tyre ( BF AT ) but found the tyre heavy for the light suspension on the Navarra. The tyre was great off road but the handling went right down the pan on the road. The bridge stone seems to be a much lighter tyre ( unsprung weight )
  22. Zinc pills, strong tea, paracetamals, lucazade any thing your body fancies, thick duvet and sweat it out for 12 hours. To avoid getting it in future a zinc pill twice a week and fresh fruit veg. Alcohol prevents the absorbtion of vitamins into the body so a few dry nights helps.
  23. I cant fault the way mine drives. After a test drive its a love job nothing comes close. But they just fall to bits and they are not cheap to put right.
  24. I think they worked out hand building 20k trucks for farmers that break them and repair them under warranty was a bad idea. Better to sell 80k trucks to wags that will do 20k miles in the first 3 years. Rich people change their vehicles every 3 years so you dont upset the buying customer. Build in a tonne of flaws that show up in 3-5 years and charge £170 an hour to put right. I am jealous, need to build this into my generators
  25. The little jimny will be easier to control on ice. I had a 2003 Range Rover for 3 days before it ended up in a ditch on its roof after sliding on sheet ice lots of colourful lights to look at as I rolled over. Bit worried about the LR input but at least they dont throw them together.
