  1. I also seem to find the stones cheaper than the poor quality files you get from still and Oregon. A stone = £5 ans lasts forever a file £1 lasts one sharpen on a 4 ft chain.
  2. I can't haggle on the price of our kindling 2 p off a bag and it's not worth doing. But I do haggle for electric insurance etc. I would be really cautious haggling with a one man band or small company knowing how tight margins can be and the extra service you normally receive. I have d4 discovery commercial on auto trader you are more than welcome to haggle the price down on that and I just dropped a grand off it
  3. I don't hand sharpen enough now to keep my hand in. I like my lidless bench grinder but you need to be careful as they will take too much off. If I have a low cutter I don't take the rest down to match it. Why kill half a chain due to one cutter. The other thing you need to do is dress the stone every few chains other wise the stone wears on one side and dulls so you spend too long in the cut. A sign it needs dressing is lots of sparks. I use an old concrete diamond disc from a 4 inch grinder just kiss the stone with the diamond cutter on its side.
  4. Makes me laugh when people buy enough logs to get through Christmas thinking spring is round the corner.
  5. No idea really if the hilux towed over 3 tonne I would have one. The dmax has to be high on the list due to towing ability. I may look at a new ranger but I did say I would never buy another ford while I had a hole in my butt . For now it's a mint 2011 Vito and a mega reliable faithful amazon.
  6. I think it has only towed two generators we have been so busy installing new sets the customers tend to hang onto the old stuff and eBay them. The new ones normally go out on hiabs. Luckily the disco had an old ifor Williams trailer on the back no damage to my vehicles was all going through the insurance but not heard a thing.
  7. I don't think it makes much difference on the l200 due to the low gearing. The plus side is it's better for towing and nippy around town. Down side is it won't be so good on fast roads. I have run small run a rounds but find at the end of the year you may save £300 on fuel after the extra bills but you can't use it in thick snow they don't normally have air con during a heat wave the seats are poor and you are sat 3 inches off the deck. The extra hassle of administration kills off the last £300 .
  8. Winter does not get going until the second week in January and can last into April. I can remember waterskiing at Christmas and cutting the grass when I got home
  9. Slipping clutch or next doors cat trapped against inj pump
  10. It's on auto trader this week it's been fully valeted and looks like new missing the old girl already
  11. Disco 3 average 24 mpg Around town 19 mpg on a long run with gentle throttle 29 ignor the lie o meter on the dash it's about 4 mpg optomistic
  12. If I sent a pallet to you with pallet ways it would be about £40. But I could send 26 pallets for £250 on their Arctic once you get over 3 pallets it gets cheaper.
  13. Does PayPal refund the customer at the drop of a hat like they do on eBay or do they use a tiny bit of common sense if you have a terminal. We had a stream line terminal from Santander until they took £2600 from our customer and it got lost in the universe and apparently it was our hard luck as we did not notice for 6 weeks. After some very rude words we got the money and a box of flowers.
  14. I would look at a different pick up the l200 is very low geared with an old style direct injection engine. The hilux after 2000 has the d4d common rail engine which is a bit better. Maybe look at running on all terrains rather than mud terrains this could give you back 4 mpg. Make sure the new vehicle is running right with no faults in the ecu and we'll serviced. Changing engine oil every 2000 miles on a l200 may pay dividens as the service interval is 3500 and you are towing and off road. £20 for an oil change seems a bargain compared to £6 a gallon for fuel.
  15. You have the same brinkman britruck as us is yours manual or hydrostatic. Have you a source for parts etc. I have an owners manual and part list. Superb little truck but our kubota engine is so stuffed it looses compression when warm and stalls.
  16. Same as most of the rest very good drill until the batteries pack up. All drills seem half worn when the batteries go but it's cheaper to buy a new set.
  17. Thanks for the advice never occurred to me that the cutting and measuring would slow the job down so much. If I go hammer and nail and hate doing it at least there wont be another gadget gathering dust.
  18. The cheapest I seem to be able to get the cells for is about £30 + vat per battery. Do you think it is worth the effort I would think the replacement cells could be better quality but could they finish off an old cordless. I have a couple of 18 v Panasonics real wrist busters when new but they soon loose out to the batteries. The drills are about 4 years old and still mint but batteries are goosed
  19. I have searched the threads but can't see what people use brads or nails ?. I have a bostitch compressor and extension but never bought a gun. I get the odd splash of quality ship lap come in with the down grade timber we get for kindling. Thought I would try my Hand at the odd shed or dog kennel, hedge hog house. Never really had much luck working with timber you can't reach for the welder when things go pear shaped:001_smile: what would you buy and what's the ideal length of nails.
  20. I would think oak would be much better than keruing. I used I iroko or similar on my conservatory cill and it rotted out in 10 years. Rotted quicker than the bits of softwood I sneaked in to the build. I think people use tropical hardwoods to save spending money on a nice piece of oak ? You put a set of oak gates up and they are there for 40 years minimum.

I had a 96 tdi from almost new to 120k never missed a beat and pulled really well. I do remember some talk of cambelt failures but new belt and tensioner will give you years of trouble free motoring. Mostly merc running gear and nice tight ride when new.
  22. With 20,000 members you are bound to find a few rotten apples. Be a bit on your guard until you have met and formed a friendship. In 5 years I have only found 3 rotten apples and dealt with hundreds of honest friendly spot on people
  23. sounds like the springs have gone weak in the dmf causing the clutch to snatch. The sudden take up on the clutch may be making the pump cut back to save emmissions or the software needs an up date or new throttle switch. Get it sorted before warranty ends they have a habit of finding problems after 3 years.
  24. I think the downfall here was painting the machine. Its like washing a Landrover or worse still servicing it
  25. What ever you do it will still be too expensive not dry enough the wrong species and can you deliver sunday afternoon if its not raining. I can remember one customer rang up to complain because he found 10 litres of small bits in a 2cu metre load. Then he piled up what he would accept and what he would not and demanded half his money back. We collected the lot and gave a full refund with a polite request to go somewhere else in future. Glad to be well out of it I feel for any one that deals with the general public I love sticking to the trade
