  1. I dont want to say on a public forum but there is nothing wrong with the machine.
  2. Years ago I was towing a 3 tonne genset with our tdi disco. Several garages were closed so before running out I took the decision to put the 7 litres of clean engine oil stored in the boot. so about 50/50 mix I was surprised how much more poke the engine had with no smoke at all. I forgot to fill up at home and set of in the morning and went for miles before needing to fill up.
  3. How do you stay busy Nick. Are they new customers through advertising or word of mouth. we used to be run of our feet from referrals but I think everyone is buying as cheap as possible. We have still done ok but not run off our feet like the last 3 years.
  4. I have a theory that some customers may be thinking they can get through this winter with what they had left from last winter. If we have a cold snap and wood supplies dry up its too late for the hack it up to order boys to react. I think we are in for a cold week down south from Friday. There is still time yet I hope. I notice a few tender sales have been cancelled is this due to lack of interest ? Maybe cord wood will return to sensible levels.
  5. I dont think mr Ed is about on this forum and I dont think he did kindling. This thread is out of date by more than two years. We sell in the south but if you are up north may be able to send you in the right direction.
  6. Honda engine with reduction gearbox to 1500rpm and cat pump if your budget will stretch.
  7. Does not matter how good the Dalen was it would not be an option for us. I am glad there is a good Hakki Pilki in competition as the service we have had from Large tree has always been excellent.
  8. i would meet them there. If you cut the locks off and there is nothing in the lock up they will say you moved it all.
  9. I am sure there are good tree surgeons with saws and kit in fife:thumbup1:
  10. If the rod is damaged send it into a repair shop. If you fit new seals they will be waisted. Get a new rod fitted job sorted.
  11. Buy an ifor williams they got a catch on the front you engage even on auto reverse brand new trailers. When you pull forward the catch pops back up. Maybe you could fit a different hitch. Never unhitch you trailer parked on a hill without chocking the wheels as the handbrakes are very poor in reverse.
  12. Yes so you are now sold out and buying in cord for next year and processing now. This way you get to sit on a huge debt and wait 9 months for any money so your customers can burn dry logs that evening.
  13. Posch top quality machine will last for years if you can afford it today.
  14. I thought there was another dealer for Dalen but perhaps not. I still have my hakki as after the last two years I thought there would be alot of people doing firewood so thought it a bit risky spending 10k plus. It turns out the winter has been mild as well. From what I have seen cord is getting bigger so you need a big machine but big machines make big logs. People want small logs for wood burners. I dont get alot of jams on the splitter I have in the past when the splitter needs sharpening, the belts are not tight enough, the hyd pump is knacked or relief valve blowing off to early. I think my splitter is only 5-6 tonnes. At least 1/2 my wood is too big for any uk processors. My best investment was a upright 13 tonne splitter.
  15. I think the dalen is supposed to be better for arb waste and very good for cord as well. Luckily I think there is now more than one dealer.
  16. Or you can claim about £300 for the use of and save all the hassle. We all need to stop being so tight and hand over alot more in taxes to help the overall general cause cos we all know it goes to such good causes
  17. Yes but its still a ton of wood init. So there is an extra 25% profit the imperial way
  18. yes I think a cubic yard is about the same size as a cubic metre and if its smaller Im not fussed its the same price.
  19. Sounds like my 051 was knackered. I did not have a lot of faith in the 039 but its turned out at least once a week for a solid 8 hours of dicing 18in beech and its not missed a beat in 2 years apart from vibrating two exhausts off. It was 8 years old when I got it.
  20. If you can get that deal would be good. But I am not sure if they would send a container of logs to someone they have not dealt with before on 45 days credit. Let us know how you get on. Logs are a side line for us and happy with less gross profit if there is less work in it if that makes sense. We have pulled right back on giving credit accounts on our engineering side and we dont carry out service visits on contracts till the money has cleared. Gensets dont leave the yard till paid in full.
  21. Its all supply and demand. Last year if you could supply you could demand what you wanted. This year we have used a 1/4 of the fuel we did by same time last year in our house people are short of money and the money they had for logs will go to paying of the credit card unless we have a long cold snap. I would imagine alot of yards are like ours stuffed to the gunnels with cord.
  22. I would have thought if you stick some stihl braces on and walk down the road you will find work in Scotland at the moment.
  23. Have tried this but the product is either rubbish from day one or gradually slides. You dont have control over quality and rejecting the load if they have cleared the payment I dont think so. As one member pointed out to me if I cant afford a bit of bar oil and 2 stroke I should get out the game. But if like me you add up and work a balance sheet you can work out your costs and true profit you will find £6000 a year is alot not a bit:001_smile:
  24. I had a 051 with 25in blade mine felt slow heavy and under powered compared with the 039 I paid £150 for. The saw came with 20in 325 chain and flys with this on ( should be 3/8 ) Not sure if you could run 25" of 325 or not. My 051 although had good compression may have been faulty as others sound like they have a better experience.
  25. Dogs give you a false sense of security. Shopping list for thief fast acting poison meat. Come back tommorrow.
