  1. he seemed to have an itchy rump!
  2. Went for a nosey at Rougham Hall (w.suffolk) - a derelict mansion which was bombed in the second world war, and happened to stumble across lots of interesting trees. Here's a few pictures, with more to be found in this album -> Picasa Web Albums - 10838838396279392... - Easter Weeken... (here i show my extensive knowledge ) This tree had failed due to an *insert disease here* infection, revealing the wood surrounding the dead/decayed branches, which had resisted the urge to rip like all the other wood - excuse my ignorance, but is this a wall of CODIT?
  3. Thanks for the heads up - i live in Bury so easy to get to. I have walked around Nowton Park quite a few times, but it would be interesting to get an experts view on the trees.
  4. the front number plate was blurred on mine, but not the back
  5. great idea!
  6. What are these like to use? Pro's and Con's of the short length? These are the Komet Miller ones...
  7. Chainsaw petrol top handle tree surgeon 25cc 12" Bar UK on eBay (end time 25-Apr-10 11:17:06 BST) It says it weighs 3.8kg The 200T is 3.5kg without bar and chain I can't see it being any lighter tbh. How much does the AMA weigh?
  8. You may or may not know this.... It has expanded to the villages! I found my old car (circa spring 2009) in two different villages at the same time Google Maps (keep zooming in on the road you want to view, eventually it will load street view)
  9. good stuff! the weather looks nice compared to what we had today! (ash dismantle over pond, with rain and almost gale force wind )
  10. best to ask the course organiser - it varies. most will want you to bring ppe.
  11. "This video is not yet processed. "
  12. really enjoyed that, thanks
  13. For the money you can do so much better. Don't ever buy a PC from a high street store (pc world, comet etc). They are overpriced for folk who don't know better. The only site you need is Desktop PCs | Desktop PC | Desktop Computers | Desktop Computer - Ebuyer.com I've used ebuyer a few times and can't fault it.
  14. worth it for sure - ascending is a doddle with it and you can control everything with finger tips. the fact that it's adjustable is great too. gustharts are doing them for 120 afaik. get one before it goes back up to 160!
  15. i'm not really down with fashion lingo but 'smart/casual' is best. just make sure your jeans and hoody aren't scruffy.
  16. it comes already installed with windows 7 (microsoft version i guess) - i've had an e-post it note reminding me to sort my passport out for 2 weeks
  17. not quite that bad (yet). tbf, it's quicker for them to just come out to observe, rather than shut it down..
  18. seems you have your answer, but just to add, when we have been close to wires, edf come out just to observe. for free aswell, so why not!?
  19. good stuff! can't see the boss buying us one any time soon, though - he still thinks wrapping round a tree is a modern way of rigging!
  20. Just found this gem on facebook. Hard to find fault with it tbh.
  21. exactly! most of the time it's for the council doing street trees and they don't care, as long as we have tree work signs, road narrow signs and cones
  22. A few more notes to add... Alders prevent erosion along the banks of rivers, particularly those flowing through soft rock or prone to torrential flow, and they have been widely planted for this purpose in the Highlands of Scotland. The foliage is highly palatable to invertebrates, having 141 phytophagous species associated with it, including the alder kitten moth (Furcula bicuspis). Alder timber is very resilient to decay under water and, like elm and pine, it has been used for water pipers and for piles under bridges and houses; much of Venice is built on alder piles. It is still used for sluice-gates and other structures along water courses. It was also traditionally the best wood for making clogs, partly because it is a poor conductor of heat; most surviving alder coppices were formerly the haunt of 'cloggers'. The catkins and bark give an inferior black colouring known in medievil times as 'poor man's dye'.
  23. I'll ask the boss if he would be able to do anything, although we already use 2 or 3 subbies, so can't guarantee... Try Steve at hawkes tree services (nr sudbury) - i was climbing for him before i found full time work elsewhere, so he might need some help. his numbers - 01787238386 / 07798792619 Good luck with the move, i'm moving back to bury in april after a year away. It's a lovely town -the best in east anglia by far!
  24. ?? i'm up at 6 every morning, but i wouldn't like any phone calls then!
