  1. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nQs-5kjOmA]Half Dead Maple - YouTube[/ame] Piecing apart a Bigleaf Maple, no rigging just cutting it up.
  2. Do you mean double taper wedges?
  3. Songs are Circuital by My Morning Jacket and DLZ by TV on the Radio. Thanks.
  4. A bit of a mishmash from the last month. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkIVWC-MdEo]YouTube - ‪Spring Climbing and Felling‬‏[/ame] If the first one is blocked in your area: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6zgvEI_jQo]YouTube - ‪Spring Climbing and Felling (Different Audio)‬‏[/ame]
  5. Western Redcedar. It was a beautiful day, it's always a nice place but weather like that always improves it.
  6. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h99xfZ0fc7M]YouTube - Square Rigging with a View[/ame] 660 was acting up, original plan was to crane the wood off but couldn't block the street, watered the rope a bit to keep things cool, a nice friday.
  7. There's an updated version of this booklet now. Part 1 Part 2
  8. Tops were roped as there really wasn't room for them unless they were tiny tiny, bit of a breeze, stuck together (as you can see lol.) Not a lot of room for blocks is needed. Tops tend to drift a bit from 30m. This is just north of Vancouver.
  9. How on earth is this anyone's fault but your own? If you use a piece of equipment past it's safe lifetime, it's on you, end of story. Inspections by a third party only go so far, and a good inspector would have noticed this was too old. But it's your equipment, you know the history, you should have retired it.
  10. Yale hasn't used those snaps for at least 8-10 years that I can remember. I'm surprised the wirerope didn't give away due to simple metal fatigue already. If you can read it, the sleeve on the end will have a date of manufacture on it. Odd thing is, I've worn lots of those fliplines as much as that one is in a few months. I guess the lesson is that wear is only half the criteria for retirement.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EU5a99uhP8]YouTube - Snowy Windfirming[/ame] Windfirming is thinning or topping trees along the edge of logging cut-blocks to reduce blow-down after it has been logged. A grappling hook (claw) is used to pendulum between close trees. These trees are second growth Douglas-firs about 150 feet tall. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DduoDsk1bnk]YouTube - Forty-three Minute Fir[/ame] Kind of an experiment, a small fir removal (43 minutes of uncut footage sped up) filmed with a helmet cam. About 3.3x actual speed. Probably a little boring and a little nausea-inducing. Click through to youtube for HD.
  13. Nice pics is a "French Douglas Fir" some kind of abies?

What's the reason for rounding it up like that?
