  1. In 5 years i will hopefully be in Californ-i-a or Oz with my girlfriend, living the dream! In 10 years i would quite like my own fleet of mogs and boss people around. (a manky old ldv, ancient entec and working on my own is a more likely outcome, though )
  2. The company my boss is with won't insure under 25's, and as there are two of us that are under 25, we need to change. What company would you recommend for 4 men, 2 transits, 2 chippers? thanks
  3. alex_m

    Which chain..

all the info you need is printed on the actual bar - drive links, pitch etc
  4. my protector pro's are still going strong after nearly 2 years
  5. i usually put it on first thing everyday and don't take it off til the end - sometimes i forget it's there and wear it in very innapropriate places, like shops or post offices just make sure you do them up tight, otherwise the scabbard slips down - i managed to slice through half the velcro strap after pulling the silky out!
  6. Stretch Air type A - so glad i don't have the type C duvet's anymore! Saying that, i will probably get some type C's next winter.
  7. cool, i think i'll try that. and at least you go brown - the only brown bits on me are my freckles
  8. cheers
  9. moz, if my skin was anymore pale, it would be see-through! i need some fairly industrial strength stuff
  10. Sorry for the very un-manly thread. Does anyone know of a good sun cream that doesn't make sawdust stick to every part of your skin? I have already caught the sun, after the last week of lovely weather
  11. haha! brilliant!
  12. are you hooked up to a CAD machine or something? how is any of that possible?!?
  13. looks really good, although it could do with 'lopping and topping' put somewhere.
  14. i'd say i'm at 2.5/10, 2.5/10, 0.5/10 got a long road ahead of me! I'd say the first two mainly improve with speed - i could do the same dismantle or reduction as someone with 10 years exp, but would take a lifetime compared to them!
  15. For me personally, when i come down towards the end of the day, i'll have a quick rest and drink, then get stuck in - that way we go home earlier, yes? Surely no job would be so tiring, as to make you physically disabled? If a subby came in and stood around for ages after a climb i would put a rake in his hand.
  16. i was going to say i thought the quals and insurance page was a good idea. it gives the impression that you are a trustworthy company. and i've done a few dismantles with rigging, but only have 39 - am i in trouble now??
  17. The other day, three of us did two 60' connys, in one day. both were felled in one (apart from a few bits on one, to get rid of weight on the wrong side) small distance to drag, the chip filled up 2 and a half transit tippers. logged it all up into 12" rings/logs and left on site. So, as others said, 5k seems a bit steep (based on our job anyway). that would be around 10 days for us!
  18. haha! i would happily pay 2 g for that! the skater must of got tired after modelling a hand plant for so long!
  19. wow! how much do you want for it? i haven't got anywhere to put it, but i want it!
  20. you can buy water based chain lube for working near ponds/rivers (sorry, no link) - just make sure you don't leave it to sit in your saw for more than a day!
  21. he seemed to have an itchy rump!
  22. Went for a nosey at Rougham Hall (w.suffolk) - a derelict mansion which was bombed in the second world war, and happened to stumble across lots of interesting trees. Here's a few pictures, with more to be found in this album -> Picasa Web Albums - 10838838396279392... - Easter Weeken... (here i show my extensive knowledge ) This tree had failed due to an *insert disease here* infection, revealing the wood surrounding the dead/decayed branches, which had resisted the urge to rip like all the other wood - excuse my ignorance, but is this a wall of CODIT?
  23. Thanks for the heads up - i live in Bury so easy to get to. I have walked around Nowton Park quite a few times, but it would be interesting to get an experts view on the trees.
