  1. hi guys had no response from the employment section so thought i'd post in here have a need for a guy with pa6aw possibly 4 days but sites could be tackled out of hours if your local chem ppe and knapsack can be supplied if req. swansea neath areas asap thanks Dean
  2. why mount it on the body? could you lift a chipper in and out with the crane and even use the crane to tip the tipping body therefore dispensing with tipping gear too?
  3. require a pa1,pa6,pa6aw qualified operative potentially four days work swansea area. must have tickets as above. reply ASAP by phone or email Dean [email protected] 01792 864053
  4. unfortunately there will always be a market for cheep - frustrating i know, and for those that go out of business (because they are cheep) there will be another ready to take their place also working for peanuts. I would think that it is possible to make a living from firewood but You have to forget those that are selling cheep and market your business better than they do. Word of mouth i great but you have to build a client list in order to get this, quality alone is not enough without advertising that those quality logs are sat in your yard. I would imagine a succesfull firewood business takes a lot of hard work with high and consistent standards.
  5. Alright rupe - it appeared that the chap hadnt had that many guys stick there hands up that were interested in actually helping with the task. while the best option for whatever consideration may well be a crane - if he couldnt find someone to help then what next and why? I like to learn from other people and Just being nosey!
  6. Can't think of many trees in swansea that would warrant a crane. Unstable to rig from or just poor access?
  7. I like the petzl vertex just bought a stein for one of our climbers and she seems to like it - she prefers it as she has a smaller than average head circumference and it fits her better than her petzl did.
  8. great machines. Ran a 2 year old 150 and a 2001 entec side by side for a few months and must say i prefered the entec. just seemed less fussy. think it had about 1400 hours on it when i sold it. As with anything buy thhe best you can afford - dont worry about age just look at condition
  9. from the photos I'd continue to monitor some more
  10. I dont normally have an opinion posts like this great that youve taken the time to put the vid up for us to see. I particularly like the still shots sorry but it just seemed too slow and a poor use of man power I'd be frustrated that the groundy was standing around kicking sawdust - unable to work while i was faffing around with knots and then that i was standing around waiting for him to untie said knots before i could proceed to the next bit. using all those logs on the floor to make a "bin" over the slabs/ targets - protecting them and catching or deflecting rings in towards the stem and flower bed would probably be the way i'd go. with the groundy removing the aditional rings as i dropped them. i might just be impatient tho
  11. hi guys have a little old woodsplitter i'd like to resurect from the back of the garage for light use at home ive already re-welded the splitter knife etc. the motor seems to be struggling to push the last six inches or so even without a log. although i could use a packer to get round this i'm guessing the hyd oil might be a bit low or even need a change anybody know where the filler for it is? cant see anywhere obvious. thanks Dean
  12. i sometimes think if i was to start up a tree surgery businss again i would go for something realy simple Deano's trees with the tag line: we cut trees most often than not the principle of KISS is best for most of our work
  13. I know badgers love blue bell bulbs not heard of them nipping the flowers but could be a prime supect
  14. back to the original question: we have a young lady on our team very commited good climber not afraid to get stuck in and do whats asked of her. she has her limitations - but also her strengths.
  15. had a guy call me about my entec i had for sale - couple of weeks ago - when i said it had gone (sold) he asked if it was stolen as his was stolen around xmas. nasty time of year to lose kit! hope you have some luck
  16. sorry Monkey - wasnt ignoring the directory more testing myself (before shuffling off and looking them up) and drawing others into the thread and getting them interested
  17. so what are they all? I'm currently trying to re- learn what little fungi knowledge i had so come on someone help us out. heres my guesses without looking up - please forgive my spellings 1+2: squarosa? (not sure on spelling) 3+4: Kreutz? 5+6: 7,8+9:Ganoderma? - but which one? adspersum? 10+11: " 12: 13: trametes hirsuta 14: 15:fomes? 16:phaeolus? if its not a close up of above?
  18. punky= soft and rotten though i wouldnt expect this of beech birch goes punky pretty quick if not stored off and out of the elements
  19. I feel that it will become increasingly essential: As the industry pushes to be seen in a profesional light in the UK - cs 40/41 will become a core ticket even if it is a little on the fringe for many at the moment. While reading about the complexities of the use and loading of systems can lead to a good understanding - this will not be enough and we will all need to have that piece of paper.
  20. any fines/ dust from chipping will pass through the netting leaving lots of clear up
  21. climber required prefered quals: 30,31,(32 an advantage) 38,39,(40+41 an advantage) Clean driving licence a must. First aid at work and chapter 8 also an advantage The right candidate needs to fill big boots in an small Arb approved company, required training will be provided for the right candidate. send a CV by email by the 16th of April many thanks Dean
  22. Im the company owner and main climber. when i started the company 3 years ago it was just me and a part time groundy most of the time. if we had a large dismantle a third guy might be brought in who my or may not have had any climbing experience at all - never mind a ticket. for most small companies needs must. margins are often tight, the boss simply can't afford a climber or afford to train one up Then theres the added presure of once trained up using that member of staff in climbing operations in order to build their competance in a tree - because this takes time slows production in the short term and therefor costs even more money albeit short sited - completely understandable we've slowly grown and now there are four of us full time. when i started in arb i was given a chance to climb and time was invested in me. So as weve added staff of differing levels of (Deemed) ability and competance ive made sure that i've invested that time back into my employees. Now we have three good climbers (including myself) This might be seen as beyond nesesary but climbers often make better groundies (IME) as they have an understanding of whats going on up in the air and i know that for any scenario theres at least one person that can save the other. I think the investment is worth it - notust to tick boxes but to get home safely.
  23. with costs involved in changing the way you are currently transprting and loading timber does it still make it a good deal. wouldnt rate chestnut that highly (sweet or horse) - having said that i'd still burn it if it was dry and would certainly mix it in with my firewood
  24. Ta very much Think the wifes getting fed up of the collection tho. The 90 was my own before i started the business so its my personal fave. The 110 was bought by the business. then the 130 was added this winter to cope with all the comercial work - now we are into the private season I might sell it on as it wont earn its money quite so well.
