  1. got ours in october definately moves the air around without feeling a draft. But because you dont realy notice the flow of air it seems like its not doing the job. probably not worth the purchase if you only have a fire roaring in the evening for the effect. But over the period of a couple of days we've noticed that more of the house is warm when it wouldnt have normally been if we wern't to put the CH .

  3. I know of someone who uses Bsc after their name in their advertising - I feel that If you are going to add BSc for example to the end of your name on your business cards or marketing I think that its important that its a degree relevant to arb and not in media studies (no offence to any one who studied media). If it isnt relevant then it could be percieved as being slightly misleading - and perhaps a little awkward when the client asks where you studied forestry or arb at degree level
  4. I'll probably go for a splitter rather than a processor (mainly because of storage). tho I am tempted to just have one big blast and get on top of the wood pile with a hired processor as 2 or 3 days should easily do it. does any one out there have any opinions or use either of these splitters - think i will be ordering a forest master if not. Ta
  5. hi steve - thanks yes spotted it myself - though not sure if they are hiring out. Was going to give them a call today for prices but didn't get round to it.
  6. Hi guys. I'm looking into a trailed log splitter for the yard. i'm considering either the forest master 17ton or the MTD lawnflite 550 (25ton) at roughly £900 and £1900 respectedly theres a huge price difference and while I appreciate that this will probably be represented in the build quality and the extra split capacity etc is the MTD realy twice as well made? does anyone have either of these machines, and have any thoughts or comments on them. Im also considering a small toweable log processor as ive been hording and stacking in lengths - considering the hakki 2x s+ carry - anybody have a rough idea on price. anyone on here hire out a processor in south wales? (i havent got the ability to run nything requiring pto) Cheers Dean
  7. Hi tommer - seems fine on tick over - then for 30 seconds on full revs before to starts to splutter...... does this mean something else's the bother? ta
  8. Thanks everyone for your input:thumbup: has put my mind at rest that i havent bought a turkey
  9. thanks for the advice guys. sounds like people think i'm along the right lines then.. the machines an 06 and has a plastic tank- £1K for a new tank Bolt - wow Ive drained the tank - its sitting empty at the mo (and i won't be re using the same fuel). have a new clear in line filter ready to go on - the fuel line seems to go through another filter (looks like an oil filter) - where can i get one of these from (a local kubota dealer?) - does anyone one know a parts number? Thanks
  10. Hi guys I recently bought a new second hand 150, low hours (120) as the seller told me it was bought as a spare machine. on its first outing this week it seemed very down on power over our old entec. the rollers intermitently weren't turning to take material in when you pushed the flappy paddle buttons...... so i checked and tightened the belts and this seemed to have worked but the engine is coughing and wheezing - stuttering and blowing blue smoke- almost missfiring. ive drained the fuel tank assuming that its a fuel problem - more gunge in the bottom than i would have expected - the seller has been using red and kindly filled the tank - but im wondering if it could be contaminated with either water or gunge? ive got hold of a new clear plastic prefilter to change just in case - does it go through another filter after the fuel pump? and where can i source one of these? any ideas if i'm thinking along the right lines or could there be anotherproblem im not seeing? thanks
  11. Its frustrating that timberwolf themselves seem to be aware of what many of us see as the largest problem with this brand. Having spoke to both timberwolf and green mech at the show with an eye to buying - although having ever used a green mech before i found myself swaying towards the new quad chip. however in the real world there is no dealer back up in my part of the world at the moment and this could be an issue.
  12. need to think about changing the filter and hydraul oil in my 6inch entec - anybody know what the spec for the oil is - if there is one? I'm guessing halfords clutch/brake oil isnt the stuff to go for. any tips before i delve in with my tool set. thanks Dean
  13. P.S i was under the impression grifola was parasitic mainly on oak and beech?
  14. I originally assumed it was merip..... will take some photo's when I'm passing
  15. oops sorry dont know how i managed to post that again. Looked very similar to fungus developing on a beech near me at the moment - that i have seen grifola at the base before (later in the year in 'adult' form).... incidently currently standing stony dead in a high traffic location at a wedding venue.
  16. immature grifola/ hen of the woods?
  17. immature grifola/ hen of the woods?
  18. Thanks for the reply. I think that we have a lot to offer the right candidate. There is of course the odd conifer removal but generally we carry out a wide range of more interesting and sensitive work. I have used freelancers in the past - But i find it can be difficult to juggle availability of other people with the demand of work as it comes in. Thanks Dean
  19. Arborist required to join small, busy team in Swansea/ Neath area. pre requisite: cs 30, 31, 38, 39, full clean driving licence. must have an interest in tree science and an interest in ecology would be desireable. pre 97 driving licence or trailer test - an advantage. salary dependant on experience. Please send CV to Dean Osell by email if possible - deadline Wed 18th Aug 2010 [email protected]
  20. are the leaves showing shot hole?
  21. Cercospora (which i think is similar) was thought of especially as it seems to be progressing to the tips rather than from it, but no black fruiting bodies on the needles? what do you think the odds are? could a fungicide treatment realistically be implemented - my concern would be efficient cannopy saturation would there be any implication in application near to a stream (tree on bank)
  22. If its arb and forestry your after I'd go to the APF but the royal welsh is a lurvely day out all the same
  23. interesting idea about the drift, hadn't thought of that!
  24. Thanks for the responses guys unlikely to be damage from road salt due to distance from and geography of the land. fast flowing streem between it and the road, verge etc i think helps too And although not a scientific way of putting it - just doesnt seem to look like aphid damage.
  25. promissed a client i would try and get a second opinion..... several conifers in a village have suffered from browning - having been walked around the village by said client - they are at various stages from a little yellowing to dead. Luckily for this particular chaps tree his isnt very far gone (barely so infact) but he's worried that it might go the way of the others and wants to jump in early and do anything he can to make sure it survives as its a single tree trained into a hedge that screens his house from the busy road if it goes it will leave him completely exposed its short and squat due to its location under leccy lines and as such recieves a trim from our friendly neighbourhood utility arbs from time to time. a screem of - cut it down and plant a propper hedge wont go down well with him so please take a look and see what you think. my opinion is a little bit of drought stress. background info: has stream running adjacent to it (though im sure that the water level will have been lower than usual this year) no signs of canker or any signs of phytophera etc no signs of insect attack one side is exposed to the wind and most of the yellowing is found on this side - but not exclusively client has done a little bit of research and worried about cryptospiridium (i cant find much info on this and thought it to be unlikely due to rarity??) unlikely to be anything associated with road salt due to position, and if linked to the other conifers probably nothing to do with any sort of run off in the stream as the others are a not near it. thanks any thoughts welcomed
