  1. Im sure somebody has the answer for me: I'm not after info on weight info etc.... if any body out ther has one - what would be the cubic metre capacity of a tipper bed (full height body for arb/ chip use) considering a crew cab but want to compare the size of the bed against our single bed 130 and the body we have on our 110 to see if its a viable option. would love to go the mog route but cant sort out the O licence and drivers licence quickly enough.
  2. Ive recently been advised to remove the shrouds from spliced ropes, where fitted - as they tend to hold dirt and grit which may damage this part of the rope
  3. managed to finally pop in the other day they gotto get into a bigger place with more space and gear. lots of big husky and stihl banners - but no saws on show? bought some graphite powder - last of the big spenders eh
  4. oh and a 7.5 ton license
  5. sory for hi -jacking Ferguson forestry - can i just clarify for myself.... If i went out and bought an agri reg mog tommorow and stuck a chipper on it for arb work - i would need to re reg for road use, use white deisel and get an O license. thanks
  6. Dont be cheap to win work It may get you about when you start up. But the customers you win when your cheap you will lose as your prices rise to sustainable levels.
  7. thanks for the input guys
  8. I think the question your asking is - if the mog is classed as ag and therefor technically a tractor can you use it for tree work without the need for a 7.5ton licence and OL. I'd like to know this for sure too - tho' Im sure the answers probably no! I'd be quite happy to use it on white if thats the case as dont have a big enuf licence
  9. all stripped out with the cane. orriginal plan was to spend a day rigging out then a day with the crane for the big timber. Time constraints meant we had to get them both done in a day. I'm inexperienced with cranes so we got Tim in for the climbing to make sure it was all done and dusted on schedule.
  10. Oh P.S you forgot to give the client a card for the stump grinding - So i gave him your mob number from my phone.
  11. Crikey - you were quick getting those up. Thanks for your work today - everything went nice and smooth. Will get the other pictures up asic.
  12. any body use a compact tractor? cant justify a real tractor and dont know if what I'm after is available - Am I asking for the moon on a stick? 4 wheel drive able to run a pto chipper small timber trailer and crane (like an atv TT) topper. maybe a loader? am i right in thinking that i would need 35hp plus to run a pto chipper. any info gratefully recieved from anyone who employs one.
  13. 90, ifor tipper and ramps and a track chipper is a handy combo - except when full you have to tip off and return for the chipper
  14. We must have a saw from the same batch! - its latest problem is poor running. (p.s we us texaco petrol)
  15. think i'd go Iveco But i do like the cabstars as an alternative - nice and narrow (but expensive parts)
  16. get the angle grinder out on the hilux Tim Im wanting to change our 130 for a new 110 hicap. although the 130's bigger I'm not sure its better as full its overloaded anyway. Think it would probably make sense to buy a chasis cab from LR and just take it to a coach builders unless you can find a low mileage Hicap td5 take the tub off and go from there - but they seem to be like hens teeth
  17. luckily I dont have the time for hobies anymore, doh
  18. if 5m cube was to be felled and left onsite to season ready for its intended use (after may) would this still be an issue?
  19. On the up side the perp is probably wasting his time any way - Ive never seen this work. would of thought some roundup would do a better job
  20. dont spray your hedge with glyphosate - contact with fresh cut stumps will not do it any favours and will not do a great deal to the ivy unless a wetting agent is used. IMO
  21. your employer has a legal obligation to issue you with your terms and conditions of employment within two months of employing you. you still maintain your statuatory rights - if you and your employer go your seperate ways it's likely that you are protected more than he is in this situation.
  22. depends who you want to work for - if its as a SE/ subby worker to small or one man band outfits you probably just need to add experience to your list for now if its working for a comercial outfit then You will need a ticket for everything you would be expected to do in the work place to make yourslf comercially viable to a prospective employer wether your on the books or self employed so as brothergrim added - 40 41 etc
  23. most firms will add a self employed bloke to their list of people they can call in for the odd job (wether a day or a month) when they need an extra hand rather than taking someone on the books, investing in them and risking having to lay them off again. the employer may have to pay you slightly more than employed staff but they dont have to buy you ppe, uniform, climbing gear or tools etc etc. the up for you is you get paid more per day - but you may not get 5 days a week all year and you have more outgoings (tools ppe etc). times are tough and a lot of firms are being cautious - If no one will take on in your area then go SE - you can always keep an eye out with one of the firms you work with for FT employment.
  24. simplest option - get rid of the 90 buy a 110 or 130 as a tipper or convert it yourself (get someone to do it) retain the offroad capability. this is what i would do in your situation - or if ihad a second chance at it you wouldnt regret it. when i started the biz i had a 90, so bought a 3.5ton ivor tipper. then added a chipper as we grew but got fed up of taking and fetching or using other vehicles so took the plunge for the 110 tipper we still have (at the time couldnt bring myself to sell the 90 as i was attached to it as a car) used the 90 and trailer on jobs where the additional capacity was handy then ended up buying a 130 for even more capacity (and seats) the 130 is barge like and overloaded if full so i still prefer the 110.
  25. has the new premises been opened yet? trying to make some time to pop along for a look
