  1. Daft question but If you have an outlet and you know how much you can earn per ton or per cube once its out of the wood then if you measure the volume that 1/3rd of the plantation will be you can work out the rest from that with regards to transport etc. Then its just factoring in something for time fuel saws etc to see if its worthwhile. Just trying to get my head around mensuration myself at the mo so I'm not saying its easy but surely the most accurate way for you to get an answer.
  2. Has anyone used recycled plastic sheeting for a plant trailer bed. (such as stokboard or eco sheet) Got a small plant trailer - only used occasionally for transporting a stumpgrinder but the bed is rotten and needs replacing. what are the options for materials?
  3. replace a dmf with a solid on td5 defender approx 18months ago. van is worked V hard towing and carrying every day no noticeable difference in actual performance except an annoying rattle from the clutch release bearing (I think) - ie rattles when sat in traffic at a stop in neutral without the clutch depressed.

    split oak

cost might not be a factor but cheaper to fell and replace than pollard and manage a duff'n
  5. Thank you very much for the guidance Catweazel
  6. I always offer to cut and stack the timber in their prefered lengths to recoup the cost of our labour - never had any takers tho.
  7. Sorry I'll get there in the end OK reworking of reworking - But also to note is that the literature i have states that the 5.6 m plot is 0.01ha not 0.1 is this correct? plot size 0.01Ha (circle rdius of 5.6m) total basal area = 8607cm2 /10,000 = 0.86m2 plot vol = 0.86x8.34 =7.17m3 Ha vol = 7.17 / 0.01 = 717 m3
  8. Oops didnt convert cm2 to m2 correctly. reworking my figures (on average figures for plots) plot size 0.01Ha (circle rdius of 5.6m) total basal area = 8607cm2 = 8.6m2 plot vol = 8.6x8.34 =71.72m3 Ha vol = 71.72 / 0.01 = 7172 m3 Does that look better? Thanks for your help
  9. Thank you for your help - sorry I should have noted that the av basal area given is the av basal area of trees over the three plots sampled (0.01Ha) so an av basal area of 86.07m2 per 0.01Ha = 8607m2/ha 8607x8.34 = 71782.38m3/ha sounds a lot for a ha?
  10. I see Should I work in averages - ie the average top height over my three (0.01ha) norway plots is 19.5m the average Basal Area is 8607cm2 (86.07m2). Ive managed to find tariff numbers from notes for the three top heights I have for Norway - but without any further charts they arent much help.
  11. not sure catweazel - I've taken three sample plots of 0.01 hect each. measured my dbh's and worked out a basal area for each tree and therefore for each of the plots. Ive measured the height of the largest diameter tree in each plot to get a top height. area x height will give me the volume of the cylinder but I thought I have to correct this to allow for the taper by the form factor for each tree???? Arghh
  12. bought one to replace a 260 that became unreliable after 5 years of reliable heavy use and regretted it. Problems from day one. replaced it with a 550xp that has after 6 months not had any issues other than loosing the odd exhaaust bolt for some reason. I would not buy another
  13. just trying to get my head around some mensuration without the blue book to hand Does any one have the form factors for norway and corsican to hand please thanks
  14. with only 16hp at the pto it may not be the best thing for me after all. currently has a hi tip/ lift grass collector box, thingy m' jig. was considering a little timber trailer/crane setup for it too - but again maybe not the best thing
  15. thanks for taking the time to post those for me
  16. Thanks guys its 4wd with a deck and collector box I was thinking around the 2-2.5k mark. but i know little of these things. interested in the ability for fetching and carrying maybe running a little topper flail. I was going to go the route of a mini skidsteer but been offered this by chance really.
  17. been offered a bx2200 no implements just set up as a ride on 400 hours - does anyone know what ist is worth
  18. Surely if you price a job by a day you still price for set amount of time - for example we work from 8 till 4 (this just about always fits withn daylight hours). if i think its going to take longer i price accordingly.
  19. Ive recently learnt that somebody is knocking doors under our name and ripping people off - both taking cash and running and poor standard of work. Trading standards and the police are involved at the moment but I'm unlikely to catch them. Having put 2 and 2 together I think its been going on for a while.
  20. Lokking for a contractor in the Mach/ Aber area to prune a small willow and spray some knotweed, possibly bash some bramble in a small garden. Please call me ASAP on 07533418103 Dean
  21. I briefly considered this but - they appear to be, unless one of the guys have been fiddling with them before I got to it. there's a short pipe going to to the lower section of the carb from the fuel tank, the fuel tank is marked with a sign for choke at its origins. does this sound correct?
  22. Bit confused problems started with the trimmer cutting out no fuel showing in the primer bulb even when pumped when I pump the bulb it seems to pressurise the tank. good spark at the plug carb has been stripped and cleaned - was in good nick. trimmers only a few months old but not having the time to take it to a dealer and assuming that it was only a blocked carb or fuel line thought it would be a quick fix (I was wrong) any ideas. many thanks Dean
  23. I'm not sure bt I would take it to meen that they wont pay out if at some point your sniffing asbestos dust, eating mushrooms and standing too close to a nuclear explosion and decide to claim. sorry cant help:blushing:
  24. In all truth we aren't in the eyes of anybody other than ourselves. possibly because there is no recognised level such as corgi/gas safe, and never will be. perhaps we are better off that way - we'd all complain if there were more rules and regs, eh. There is such large variation in skill sets, from the fully ticketed and highly arboriculturaly knowledged to those running around with only 30,31,38+39 (or less) and doesnt know what it is - just how to cut it down. then theres the fresh out of college but no practical experience and those with no tickets but a huge depth of knowledge an experience. But we are off on a tangent
