  1. I scoped(assessed) my next job this afternoon before heading off home for the weekend. It is a part dismantle then fell. I will have a bit of a climb to get into the crown then I intend to spike the leaders. The question it poses is can you use a foot ascender strapped on over your spurs.I have never tried to before and I may have to wait until I get back to work to find out.I have cmi,s and pantin,s. Any tips, comments or gifts appreciated.
  2. "do chickens have lips?" "Im just going out for a quick drink" "I only work here" "This looks like the place my Dad said Id end up at, if I never done well at school" "Life is like a sh*t sandwhich. The more bread you have, the less sh*t you have to eat."
  3. Forestry(felling) is harder physically, its mainly about productivity. But working up a tree requires another skill set.Forestry then Arb is a common situation in NZ.Some Arb Companies(United,Treescape) have Logging crews as well as Climbers.
  4. ...when your groundie puts your titanium spikes thru the chipper ....congrats to the Cantabs on taking the shield.

  6. Preggy pants were they Michelle?
  7. Over the years my favourite saw in the Bushmans range has gone from 064 to 288xp to 660.So for me it is not so much the make but the model that counts.
  8. When your up a tree and you need to go to the toilet.
  9. A Blakes is simple to do just using your climbing rope or for climbing using both ends. Last week I left my Lunch and drink behind.I hate it when that happens.
  10. Totara Trees for me.I like to see the giants of the local bush still standing.
  11. great stuff, its been added to my favourite arb vids.Keep them coming. Love the lowering device, gotta have one.

  14. About 15yrs ago I was at the refuse dump when a fella arrived in a RangeRover and threw away a complete 064.I asked him why and he replied because it wont start and that it had been sitting in his shed unused for 2yrs.I took it home with me.This saw still had the original bar and drive sprocket. When I stripped it down I thought that Id found the problem when I found the needle valve in the carb was stuck closed, which I replaced. But still no joy.It also had no spark.I had to clean the contacts on the rotor and stator(if that is the correct terminology) with emery paper to get it to fire up.The dirt and oil and sap etc on them had caused a layer of corrosion.Might help.Has it got spark or is it a fuel problem?
  15. Paperwork. Checks. Audits. Meetings. Tree Assessments. Time Pressure. Safety. It all sounds too familiar. Speaking from an employees perspective in a supervisory role,I have learnt that you have to build it all into the equation. It would be a common practice for myself when asked how long will a project take to give a reply like 10 man days on site plus another 2 man days for meetings etc. It is the reality of the situation. It helps to avoid overruns and time pressure. I hope this helps someone.
  16. Euc Nitens(a bluegum) is a very poplar firewood coppice tree in NZ.Usually established at 3m x 3m or 4m x 2m. lol
  17. extra carbon buildup in cylinder, possibly sticking rings and/or scoring(grooves) on the cylinder bore. The saw will not rev as high(on same mixture screw settings) and will be smokey.Extra carbon on the spark plug may cause rough running.A lot of people mistakenly think that adding a bit of extra oil to the mix is beneficial for safety(of saw) reasons. 50:1 oil already has safety built into the equation, meaning that your saw would be very unlikely to suffer from lube problems if you mistakenly ran it on 60:1. You are likely to do more harm than good to run 50:1 mix at 40:1. Mechanics quite often read the sparkplugs by looking at the color of the insulation on the centre electrode.A nice brown color without many carbon deposits(like coke) and not oily or wet with fuel(black soot) is generally in tune. On the other hand do not run 40:1 oil at 50:1.Lol.
  18. You may feel differently 5-10yrs from now,easy after 100s of trees.lol
