The way I understand it,is yes,the croll is your backup for ascension.Its what I depend on.

I use either,I wont use a timber hitch unless I can get minimum 5 wraps and I cant use a cow hitch if the sling is too short but otherwise both are good.

flipline(steelcore or16mm,distel/micro). C/saw lanyard. 2 spare crabs,2 slings,1 double pulley. Likewise I add anything else as req.

dannyT Yes,you guessed it.At the moment I just release the cams on one end of the rope and then lower back to the ground. Or if Im going to work off my short rope I get onto that and leave the marbars on the long rope.When its time to descend I take the lower marbar off and clip it onto my harness,attach the sling from the upper marbar to my D,attach to an 8, hold the cams open with two fingers and descend on it,this is all double rope. I also really like the fact that you can disassemble the marbars and then you have 4 ascenders to use for srt of your choice.I personally like to try different things,I was using Ddrt today, a distel and micro pulley,medium size well branched trees.

I say jump on a rope and give it a go.Im 50 and I use ascenders for the long hauls,its allowed.Also,I didnt start climbing until I was 43.I used to be a Forestry tree feller and then I switched to Arb and I wished Id done it sooner.Keep us informed on your progress.

I am now in the habit of telling the groundies how many wraps to take, so the buck stops here when Im wrong.Id be interested in your comments but I think that your in a better position to make that call from above the block. -

always providing a rope to the ground for rescue purposes is being pushed hard by HSE in NZ at the moment and everyone seems to be working it into their systems and procedures. Also,if ya got a pantin use it.

Yes they make it easy for the long hauls,the thing I am enjoying is that Ive also got four ultra ascenders now for srt,tensioning rigging ropes etc,so now Im srt ,Drt ,Ddrt ,as I feel fit.Tell Mike "he knows who his Daddy is":star:Yeah that spar is firewood now before it toppled onto the road.

The marbars start with a pair of cmi ultra ascenders.A steel rod goes thru the upper holes and another longer one(300mm) goes thru the lower holes,the rest is webbing and tubing.There is an upper(hands) and lower(feet) ascender.They are used on a doubled rope,you could use just the upper for footlocking etc.They are my new toys and I find them embarressingly easy to climb on,but they are for ascending only.

We use Janola which is ammonia bleach(household),also run the c/saws in it to disinfect.

372 or 441? both good saws,20" bars about right,25" and Id also go with the lower geared drive sprocket.The Forest or Arb places Ive worked for have all been either all Stilh or all Husky to keep accounts,spares,tools etc easier to manage.

bloody pine sap,Ive been taking acetone on site and wiping down the ropes and gear as we go,my missus loves the smell so not all bad.

rabbit was hopping along the forest path when he saw bear who was squatting down having a crap,rabbit asked "do you mind if I join you","be a pleasure" said bear.rabbit was thinking' Im usually scared of bear but this is nice.bear finished and stood up but was looking very concerned,he asked"rabbit, do you have problems with the crap sticking to your fur"."cant say I do" said rabbit.so bear picked him up and wiped his arse with him.

Used to be a PADI Instructor and a commercial abalone(paua in NZ) diver,never dived outside of NZ though,agree about the night dives they are great,most people think that they are going to be scary but I find nightdives to be very peaceful,deep dives are great in NZ because of the great reefs and drop offs and the fish(like groper) that are past the 100ft zone,I believe PADI dive courses are formatted by people who want to impress on others that they have a great knowledge,scuba is basically simple but can be made to seem quiet complex requiring more and more courses $$$$$ and gear $$$$
