  1. I can see you shop at the same place as us(Timbersaws) in regard to all the cmi gear.I will avoid the cmi v petzel debate because I see it as a personal preference choice, but I will say that if you have used a cmi only then you would have to adjust your technique if you were to use a pantine.Pantines are designed to be able to disengage or re-engage the rope using only the foot that it is strapped to and a good technique has to be learnt to avoid disengageing when you dont want it. Cmi requires manual engageing and disengageing.
  2. There are a few of these being auctioned on trademe NZ at the moment.Listed as Jason Sky professional saws,55ccs.Look like a Stilh from a distance.
  3. Sorry for taking so long to answer, this is a pic I found on the Sherrill site.ASAP,s are not designed for treework and I am not recommending their use,I was just experimenting.cheers
  4. I emailed Samson to check this out,a rope technician replied and his recommendations for cleaning Sap off ropes was 1 Acetone 2 Alcohol 3 Mayonaise !!!?? We use acetone on Samson rope and I havent seen any detrimental effect as yet LOL
  5. When your removing trees that you had planted and pruned.
  6. I know what you mean,Hitchclimber/VTs are sweet as and hard to beat when they are tuned in.The only reason I got a lockjack is because Im a Council Arborist, its the end of the financial yr and we had money left to spend on equipment.Ive always wanted to trial one.
  7. Just ordered a new Sport today and I intend to use it daily.Im willing, if it is able.Heres hoping.
  8. I dont know how many were Pros, but I do recall HSE saying that the majority were Forestry c/saw pruners.Do you know who the unfortunate groundie worked for.
  9. Thanks for the post Dean.I was staggered to hear that there were 350 something chainsaw injuries registered in New Zealand last year. Be safe out there Guys.
  10. If you want to make a cheap one,add pulley, biner, snap hook or whatever until you have what you want.
  11. Maybe he is overcompensating for something. But seriously maybe he is an employee like myself,I only have one bar that fits my 066 and it is 90cm.
  12. Yes,French Prussics/VT,s are the way to go when you want to hand over hand climb or if your groundie is tending your slack when for example spiking.VT,s are great for rigging,Im sure Mike will be using them all the time.Im not a good person to ask about systems because I change all the time,Im using a michaoen at the moment and I havent settled for just one setup yet.Im betting these Southerly,s are going to create a bit of work.
  13. Does this help?Its old,I know.
  14. The marbars are still relatively new to me.I have played with a croll and also an ASAP as backups on the fixed leg of the rope and also with seperate friction hicthes above the upper ascender on both legs of the rope.I just bought a pair of new Kongs on trademe today for $60.If I was to double them and run them up the top of the doubled rope when using the marbars, instead of tying off one leg with an alpine butterfly, then surely I would be safe as houses.I still havent worked out how to do a retrieveable double alpine butterfly yet,I think you need a biner in there somewhere. But Im still enjoying trying different things and I dont think that is ever gonna change. As for srt,I have been tuning a ropewalker system that uses a bungy to footloop and a pantine for the other foot(common I think) and I always back up srt ascenders. How about you,how are you backing up.?
  15. Nitens(Shining Gum) are commonly grown for pulp or coppice firewood.Does that tell you anything?.Eucs generally require quartersawing.I have seen Nitens radially sawn and left attached to the heart of the log to season before being released for use as weatherboards.Hope that helps.
  16. I moved to the country for a change of lifestyle and got into Forestry, for Contractors.I advanced to self employed manageing Farm woodlots and such.Moved back to city for a change of lifestyle and my Forestry certs got me a Chargehands job for the local HV Lines outfit of arborists, who had a lot of Forest Plantations to clearfell and log.I became a qualified arborist in the process.
  17. Did you hit with your chain?
  18. Being a City Council Arborist we use QTRA often, mainly on large trees around significant targets(Amenities,Property,People & Roads etc).If you are involved in the management of a large resource, or large trees around amenities, it is worth looking into.
  19. The simplest rescue system I can think of is to tie the access rope off around a portaloop enabling lowering from ground.
  20. as the petzl are designed for a slight incline and need to be tilted slightly if running up a verticle line which means a slight tweak in your technique. sounds like cmi,s
  21. atree is recovering from 2 broken ankles, hope you both heal fast.
  22. Best Wood,Totara and Pohutakawa,if your ever in NZ
