  1. Oh Rob.... Where do I start? Sounds like you've been reading far too much Jeff Noon. Among other things.
  2. I would be very surprised indeed if there has ever been a single prosecution for illegal use of a hand while stopping traffic! LoL. And I doubt there ever will be. But Chapter 8 is stututory, not just a guideline, so it's good to know what you should be doing.
  3. I never had it as a kid and only got it mildly in my 20's. Now it seems to get worse every year. Luckily, I don't suffer anywhere near as bad as some do and it doesn't interfere with my life to much. But having runny eyes and nose is sooo not a good look.

    Taxi drivers

Have a rant at the company owner. They are probably well aware that their drivers sometimes speed, but they may be more interested in that the requests of one of their paying customers were ignored. The bloke's a menace and might not even be driving legally
  5. This was a question I asked when I took my signing, lighting and guarding module of my NRASW ticket, as I had heard conflicting advice about whether traffic could be stopped by hand. My instructor told me that the only legal way to halt traffic is with a stop / go board or traffic lights. Are there certain circumstances when that doesn't apply, then? I would look it up in my copy of "Safety at Streetworks", but I've, er, misplaced, just at the moment
  6. My head hurts! (And that's with having A level higher maths) I think I'll stick to my usual methods for a while longer yet.

Why didn't you just tell him to slowdown?

You were probably the most interesting thing that had happened to them in days or even weeks. It's sad, but making endless tea and snacks for the workers is often some people's (often the elderly's) only social interaction and makes them feel useful again. So drink that tea with pride
  10. I'll lend you mine
  11. 'fraid so. Technically, if you try to stop traffic by hand then you are breaking the law and could get arrested.
  12. The only legal way to stop traffic is with a stop / go board or traffic lights. Stopping traffic by hand is illegal, as covered by NRASW. Right, that's tonight's traffic management lesson over with As to the loitering climber, he's not doing anything wrong by being over traffic. As long as it's covered in the RA. But it doesn't sound like he was doing anything, full stop It's ok to drop onto the carriageway as long as there is adequate traffic management and yes, you've guessed it, there's a RA to cover it.

GAG (and that's from someone who actually likes soy milk!)
  14. Size 8 in pink please Mr B .
  15. If you are concerned about the possible removal of next door's tree(s), then you can always outline your concerns to your Local Authority and get them to assess whether a TPO would be expedient. You can even do it anonymously if you're worried about any future comeback.
  16. Oh right, that's clearer . Sorry, wrong end of your stick and all that. Yes, if there are no Planning constraints, ie, TPOs or Con' Areas, then legally the land owner can do what they like with their own trees. Although it would still be a shame to remove the tree without good reason.

Do you seriously think that if I had something like that in the house anyone else would stand a chance of getting even a mere crumb before I scoffed 'em??? Oh no no no noooooo.
  18. Hi Dowie, I'm not sure I have read your post correctly. The tree is on the privately maintained land and does not belong to your clients? Then that would be criminal damage if you removed it without permission so DON'T DO IT. It would be illegal and imoral . Your professional reputation and work ethic is worth more than what your existing clients are offering you.

Aw, shucks It hasn't stopped them starting up the sodding genies at stupid o'clock in the morning though! I might have to try a few custard creams with the tea next time if I want a lay in
  20. I could tell you about my week, but jelousy is such an evil emotion I wouldn't want to subject you to it! Couple of beers and collapse for you tonight?
  21. When you see these beauties basking amongst the litter in the sunshine:
  22. That's an awesome old oak
  23. When I have to peal off the bike leathers Like, yuck!

You ol' charmer We used to do ok on the private jobs for drinks and snacks and even doing street trees we were generally well catered for. But that was going back a bit . I wonder if having a woman on the crew made a difference? Even my dad, who I live with, can't understand why I'm bothering with the Highway blokes outside.
