    Tree Failures

Have you tried contacting you local TOs? Photos will generally be taken by them, or their contractors, of any tree failure they are called out to. It may also be worth contacting the LTOA LTOA - The London Tree Officers Association.

    new life

How about the local knitting circle? It gets you out the house, gives you a new, practical skill (think reindeer jumper Chrissy pressies for all your loved ones) and a large amount of equally bored older ladies
  3. As ever, nice pics T . That hispi' is quite impressive. I'm glad you just about managed to find something to occupy yourself with for the afternoon as I was unable entertain you
  4. This has been mentioned a few times now. It is a risk, but a very, very low one, probably less likely that falling down the stairs. And you don't avoid climbing the stairs while preggers, do you? (And before you point out the obvious biology issues here, it was a hypothetical question ). I've never taken any sort of a swing or impact to my abdomen while climbing in college or in work. I don't think any of my female colleagues have either. Or any of my male ones, come to that. The foetus during the first three months is tiny and is incredibly well protected by amniotic fluid, the womb wall, the pelvis, muscle and fat. The odd bump or strain caused by learning to climb in a very safe, controlled environment isn't likely to make any impact on the developing baby.
  5. I prefered the fern... But... AT loyalty won out and I put my x against yours.
  6. Hi M, welcome to the 'site. If your course tutors and your health care professionals tell you that exercise and climbing will be ok for you and the bump, why aren't you confident in taking their advise? If you want to do the course, then do it, I'm sure your friends are only showing their concern for you by trying to warn you off of it. If however, you will be aprehensive still, regardless of all the reassurances that you have been given, then don't do it. You will only put yourself at greater risk of injury by being so tense and the anxiety will not be any good for either of you.
  7. And there by completely dispelling it's common name!
  8. FYI, like http://www.dendrologist.org.uk/NationalTreeForumForestryAdvisoryPanel.pdf
  9. There speaks a man of great knowledge (although your gixxer's not bad either ). I recently signed up with London Bikers forum and this was from a rideout posted by one of the members (another tree bloke, oddly enough). We started at the Ace, then up through the back roads to Wallingford, through Uffington (Dragon Hill by the White Horse is effing amazing!). I left them at Wootton Basset. It was a 125 friendly day out, with fairly a sedate pace and mostly legal speed limits. For some one like me who usually rides alone, it was a really good run and with some lovely people. I'll be back out with the same crowd this weekend
  10. They used to be really common when I was a wee kid along the railway owned land near me. I haven't seen any for years though.
  11. That's a stonker of a sweet chestnut Why are you country dancin' in the centre of it?
  12. If I've read the meaning of this correctly, then I think it deserves a We're sooooo far above and beyond the average!
  13. "Duration of consent 6.58 The LPA may in some cases believe it appropriate to impose a time limit (of, say, two years) on the duration of the consent. After the expiry of the time limit a further application for consent would have to be made." It is my understanding that the expirey day, so to speak, is at the LA's discretion and will be stated in the consent.

    Otters

You lucky, lucky bugger, you They're great pics and you were very priviledged to get so close. There is soemething so endearing and totally captivating about otters.
  15. I'll probably burn in feminist hell for saying, that in general, I do tend to agree with you on this. For work that is so incredibly physically demanding as forestry, the average woman will be at a distinct disadvantage. No amount of equal rights can change the fact that women have a lower muscle ratio than men (and I have to stress that I'm talking generally and there are always exceptions). However, as you also said, a large proportion of men wouldn't be able to cope with this work either. Even though modern mechanisation goes someway to redress this, I think women will always be at a disadvantage in forestry. Which is why we'll use our superior intelligence and choose better payed and slightly less strenuous work
  16. Thanks for the link . That certainly wasn't on The FC page when we were looking for it earlier in the year

    what bird

You'll be slumming it at the Portland Bill onservatory next I like a good ident' challenge too. I'm working with three obsessive birders at the moment and I guess they are having an influence on me, whether I likes it or not. I'm assuming a woodpeckerish outline for this beastie, so for my next random guess, how about a bit of exotica and a juvenile hoopoo?

    Gold star that man
  19. A couple of the Trumph from last weekend. I've cunningly managed to avoid being in all of the pics
  20. Nope. It's the rara skirt that does that.
  21. That's a beautiful flat. It's a shame that piccy #5 makes it look like a brothel
