  1. Hazzy, Sounds weird but try peanut butter and honey on toast. Bloody lovely and nutritious too
  2. I'm sure we would all rightly condemn an employer for promoting unsafe working practices, so why the accusatory tone that your employer/team leader is being unfair/over the top when trying to look out for your health through trying to get you to do the right thing?
  3. Hi Predator, A few years ago I went through a really difficult period which overwhelmed me. I saw a counsellor for quite a while and have to say that was far far better than any pills/tablets. I think the main thing for me was realising that I could talk in absolute confidence about things I have never voiced with friends or family. There may well be tears and further struggles along the way during the sessions, but quite literally let it all out and get it all off your chest. I hope you can find the strength to deal with your current situation.
  4. Well done chap! Don't forget to always choke your climbing line round the pole with a running bowline, that way if (and only if) anything goes wrong you've got a safety back up. It's also good just to hang off to rest your legs if your getting tired, your groundy can also use it to pass up saws/sarnies or drinks.

    Ramps

I just use a couple of scaffold boards, Very cheap........
  6. Done, what are the more advanced techniques that you mention?
  7. Hi Al, Welcome on board. Ring the Ring at Tores on 01463 811603. PS Mines a Deuchars.......
  8. Never heard of it, therefore I (plus how many other customers) wouldn't be looking on it to give you a call to quote. Better to try local parish mags, church mags etc, cheap as chips and somehow more of a respectable air than some old website or another.... All the best with your new venture.
  9. Hi Little rob, I think you'll find that it is actually Stephen Chesney Beales (the Arb officer for Broadland district council) that you ned to speak to. I know that parts of Costessey are a Cons area so best to get in touch. Call him (or Mark his colleague) on 01603 430568. All the best.....
  10. Worcs wuss- I don't think the issue is about whether its a 'cut and shut' job. It's more to do with whether there is an outstanding loan on the vehicle. My best mate privately bought a car and subsequently had it taken away by the repo man. He never got the amount he paid back, had years of grief ncluding going through the courts and ended up selling the debt to a recovery company. It certainly has taught me to me more cautious when buying privately.
  11. Have to agree with 'Likeit'. Since having done the course I too appreciate the legal requirements and greater depth of understanding it gives you. It's nice to know you're on the button as opposed to 'reckon thats probably good enough'.....It's also another string to your bow when dealing with corporate clients.
  12. Soft link on your flip line is vital. You never know when you may get it wrong or the tree reacts in a way you weren't expecting. I got it wrong dismantling a dead oak and whilst I suffered quite a bad crush injury, it would have been alot worse if I hadn't been able to cut through my soft link to relieve the pressure. Be safe guys!
  13. This sounds like an excellent idea. Count me in guys!
  14. I have to agree with Gnarlyoak's post. We all bitch on about rising costs of running a business/life in general and then this is posted. Sorry to come across as a prig but regardless of your own morals, bear in mind that this forum is viewable to all and sundry!!
  15. Its always easy to criticise/highlight faults but I think unless you've had your own experience of running a business or managing others its easy to have a somewhat prejudiced point of view. I'm not saying that all bosses/managers are perfect but it isn't always as straight forward as it may seem.
  16. Thursford woods owned by the wildlife trust has some of the best veteran trees in norfolk. Definitately worth a nose about.
  17. When you say you've got your 30/31 in a weeks time, what do you mean? Is it the training course or just the assessment? If its the training, your providers should be able to advise you of any requirements. Similarly, if its the assessment, the training providers will be able to tell you what is required..... I would advise that you go onto the NPTC website and download the assessment schedules so you can get your head round what they are looking for from you. All the best!
  18. Good effort mate! Even if the sentence the scrote gets is rubbish, probably a mere slap on the wrist, at least the guy who has had the grit, balls and determination to turn his life around can get his stock back.
  19. Lorry - interesting comparison, quite thought provoking actually. AP - Lorry's point may be worth raising with the head concerned........Would be interested to hear the reply.
  20. Good points well made Dave. I have been banging on to my wife about the responsibility of those leading the party of children through the woods. However, she put me back in my box by saying that I was viewing the risks through a professional viewpoint which the general public cannot be expected to have the knowledge/experience to do. Suitably chastened I have to agree with her...... Sometimes we may forget that what seems common sense to us is only so because we have been trained in hazard awareness.
  21. Hi Ben, Give Robins Smiths at Rackheath a call for stihl gear on 720170 or Rouses at Aylsham other makes on 01263 733655, They should be able to sort you out.
  22. All the best mate. You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain!
  23. I always use a running bowline alongwith a flip line when spiking. As others have said useful for sending the saw down or other kit back up. The other thing it's good for is hanging off when your feet/legs need a rest from the spikes if you've been on them for a long time. The most important reason though is to catch you if you do have a slip. I slipped and broke my ribs when spiking and I got myself down using this line with a minimum of fuss and pain. I wouldn't have fancied spiking back down with busted ribs.
  24. Here is the position statement from the EA as to what constitutes 'Virgin Waste'. As can be seen, as long as the chip doesn't have too much foliage you are ok. I keep a copy in the van just in case we ever get pulled....... PS_005_Regulation_of_wood_v3.0.pdf
  25. Ty - Sitting at home with a knackered back but you've just really cheered my day up, really make me chuckle!
