  1. Hope you have a corker!! Huge amount of thanks for giving us lot a chance to swap ideas, learn and generally wind each other up!
  2. My money's on 'V Neck', apparently he's a good jumper............
  3. Agg - Excellent post! I went on a dedicated fruit pruning day and what you've said reflects the bits I learned on the day, although more succinctly. Good stuff!
  4. You been looking at odd bird's avatar again?
  5. You've gotta be in it to win it!
  6. Give Martin Platten at MDH Arb Hire (as Ian mentioned) a call. Good bloke who should be able to help you out.
  7. I no longer leave a climbing line in the tree overnight since I had one nicked. Instead of a climbing line just attach your throwline and pull that through, less visible and less expensive to replace if it does get nicked.
  8. Take up a tape sling, krab and mini pulley, girth hitch the sling then make a loop with the end of your climbing line stick it through the pulley, lower line back down so your groundy can clip the saw into the loop and pull the saw up to you. Works for me!

    Socks

Bridgedale mid weight everyday, not too hot and not too sweaty. Good all rounders.
  10. I'm moving house to a bit of a wreck that needs a lot doing to it. Three quotes for all work to be done and all trades have matched one another (sparks, roof, damp and timber) on price but thats because the max difference was £100 on £3 grand plus quotes. We as arborists are too often seen as glorified gardeners so cannot be held ransom to ridiculous prices from other less 'professional' outfits.
  11. Hi Jonty, I started out/got my tickets at 40 and have never looked back. Its all about attitude and working smarter not harder. There's no doubt its hard graft but extremely rewarding.
  12. I'll go a tenner too. Will give you a call to sort out. Really decent of you to arrange this!
  13. Agree that it is an excellent read. Another book well worth reading is Wildwood by Roger Deakin, it's in no way as 'full on' as Tall trees but is a gentle wander all over the planet with lots of interesting pieces about trees by a very personable writer.
  14. Adam, You should be really pleased with the site, I think its very good and agree with all the other points raised. Just one thing though, the spelling of 'solution' under services needs a tweak as currently its 'solutiuon'. Apart from that cracking.
  15. Here's a big thank you to Tony Sorensen, et al for staging yet another splendid couple of days in good old rural Norfolk at the Cutters & Climbers comp this weekend. Muchos impressed with the high tech sensor device on the limbwalk. Much fun and perhaps one shandy too many had by all! Here's to seeing more Arb talkers there next year.....
  16. I would recommend Bob Flegg based in Seething (just outside Norwich). He's a top notch bloke and has a 70 ft platform. One of the best operators I've come across. His number is 01508 550165. J
  17. Hi chap, I've only ever used Lycetts but they are good as gold. When I got chipper cover Trust insisted on getting it stamped all over (approx £200) whereas Lycetts siad clamp it in your garage over night (£0.00)!
