  1. Good mate loving it bit hot mind !

  2. Saw this and thought some guys on here would like it pretty awesome [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pceY_R6LDM]UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup Finals 2008 - YouTube[/ame]
  3. Not sure was wearing one when i started and the apprentice told me they were not considered adequate eye protection under work safe regulations. Eucs are good but you get the odd one thats skinny and really tall with no real anchor point. I find my climbing style changed when i moved over here. They tend to prune the trees to what will suit it best e.g. weight reducing heavier limbs by thinning outer crown growth that will not effect the shape of the crown, rather than have general types of pruning e.g crown reduction or crown thin as I did in the Uk.
  4. Hi guys was having a conversation at work about attaching earmuffs to a helmet without the slots normally used. My colleague argued that screwing into the helmet to attach the muffs would damage the helmet and possibly compromise its overall safety. But the stein helmets have been screwed through the plastic shell does this mean its safe to do for all helmets? Cheers Ewan
  5. You only have to wear Type A chainsaw trousers and normal safety boots, gear is expensive out here bring your own. Mesh vizors aren't accepted over here by the governing body most people wear glasses. Its hot and will be extremely hot in Febuary bring sunscreen and insect repellent. The pruning over here is different I haven't done a single crown reduction while I have been out here, so come over with an open mind in regards to pruning practices people seem to really care about trees and less is more approach is usually preferred. Hope this helps Ewan Oh and Nptcs are valued but alot of companies like a national diploma or something similar
  6. Great song choice mate liking the smaller views on the side pretty smart!
  7. That speed climbed looked horrible when i was there, Cool vid mate was an awesome day even as a spectator.
  8. Well said that man
  9. I second that, only time i have heard people hitting there feet is down to bad work positioning.
  10. Surely it would pull the climber towards the anchor point? or am i being stupid? Especially using a hitchclimber, SJ or LJ system.
  11. Skylotec kolbri or a petzl sequioa in my opinion instead of asking others opinions (i believe this is your third thread on the matter of harnesses) it will make life alot easier for you to go out and try harnesses and try alot of them so you know for sure what one you want, dealers will be able to tell you what there other customers have thought of the harnesses also. Ewan
  12. Regretting not taking my advice the first time around? http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/trading-place/28419-need-decent-harness-under-160-ish.html

Shiny! they look pretty smart i like the Xs one looks like a handy bit of kit.
  14. I think it works in some cases in others it might not again just one of those things that can come in handy and its pretty simple to use.
  15. Ahh yeah just re read that sorry for wasting space haha! Maybe you could attach them above you on your srt line then move off your line get groundies to set up some sort of progress capture set up at the base when lifted out of trouble the casualty can be lowered down on your srt line.
  16. Saw a simple system from Scott Forest when you tie a prussick to your spliced end of your line then the prussick to your hitchclimber leaving the eye free taking up the slack with the prussick side and on your standard climbing hitch e.g VT,Knut etc then when the casualty is reached connect the splice to them and release the prussick which will lift them up hopefully! sorry didnt take any photos Drew. Its pretty simple. Some sort of progress capture set up maybe utilizing a pro traxion would work?
  17. Used my pulley idea while cable bracing a tree today and found it really helped when out on limbs and helped when pulling slack through when it was closertotheground.
  18. I like the look of these spikes, some of my stein stuff has also started to break like my throwcube, but if its made to the same standards as the rigging bollards etc and not the products which often seem in my opinion a rebranding of another product. Then i think they would be a good product and i think the fact it comes with a bag and gaff gaurds is good value for money.
  19. The only thing which i rate the hitchclimber over the sj is the versatility of the setup, but find the constant of the SJ to be what i love about it
  20. I quite like the one krab set up does it make it that much easier? i have seen the sling before i also saw it at the VTCC when Joe harris was climbing. I know what you mean about flicking it through, I find when im using a pantin it keeps the SJ open untill you push the lever?....... back up so it grabs, so if you need to stop its worth keeping an eye on it.
  21. Just took some photos of my pulley idea.
  22. I really like it find it takes more thinking about where your rope lies when climbing in order to take full advantage of it. My setup is pretty basic was thinking about using a pulley underneath it maybe attached lower on the bridge of the harness to keep the rope directly under the Sj when on a limb walk.
  23. Cheers For these Adam recently got my Sj a few weeks ago been scratching my head over a few ideas too.
  24. I found it tends to flatten off to much and bites off really hard, and doesnt seem to last long compared to my AP, if you want to try a new cord i really recommend Samson Bailout i bought some and loved it very smooth and hard wearing Ewan
  25. Wow, thats bad, a fishermans or a standard splice with the thimble would look way neater and be a hell of alot safer!
