  1. I used the snakebite and almost pulled a Cary Gibson on it if it wasnt for my immence balancing skills on my hand ascender and footloop Snakebite is only 10mm and the cover is really tough and smooth it doesn't grip that well. I'm fine using it on my tachyon, but for a srt system i would prefer a static line, but I will stick with the system I use at work for ascent then change to a Ddrt system in order to work unless I feel the wrench will be more useful and time saving
  2. Yep tried both types aswell still not ideal when SRT-ing but the Treufelberger variety is alot better but I don't understand using an srt system to save energy then losing some of it it the bounce of the line?
  3. Yeah I have but for big climbs when I want an efficient ascent I want static line as standard line is so bouncy its irritating.
  4. I met a guy who "Rode" a tree that failed at the base while he was up it and it went through a garage, he was okay was on the right side of the tree at the time.
  5. I have had a Rope Wrench for a few weeks now, I bought one after reading this thread after a lot of speculation and pondering I decided to buy one here are my thoughts. I found that it takes alot of the fun out of climbing for me as the process feels unnatural when you have to transition into ascent mode LOTs etc when im using my spiderjack I swing/walk in from a limb then start climbing then off I go on another limb. It is a simple Srt system but I have found that when using with static line (those that I have tried) That the hitch is extremely temperamental even when using armor pruss with alot of wraps on it. It does keep gear down to a minimum but using LOTS isn't the most comfortable and when switching over to work it can be a PITA I find it sits too far away from me when I sit back to switch over which would be solved by a shorter tether but then I found I didn't have enough room for my hitch. Long limb walks I found troubling I know that when using it you have to think vertically but some times its not possible, the advantage of the wrench is often said that its the 1:1 ratio, but I found when limb walking going out is fine but when coming back in as you I have had to tie a hitch that grabs ever time(I use a spiderjack in Ddrt) I found it pretty hard to advance up the line especially when im holding all my weight on one arm in order to prevent the limb I am on snapping or for finer moving, I also felt it would pull me up right which wasn't what I desired when out on the limb in certain situations. An argument i hear is to install a 3:1 set up but surely that defies the advantage of using a wrench in the first place the 1:1 ratio? When using my SJ on tricky limbs I had over hand quickly in order to stay balanced when walking in. Re-directs I found just the same as Ddrt but the same friction which is awesome, but with Ddrt redirects I found them just as easy to install and retrieve etc and I find the little extra friction no problem, When the line is accidentally redirected using the wrench the lack of change in the friction i have found leading to some drops and brown trousers moments when my line is caught on a small peg and it snaps or my rope slips, when its Ddrt you would notice the change stop look flick carry on. I Love the fact it doesn't twist my line like a Vt used to that is awesome. I have found it is very quick for descending or having a big swing. Although my opinions may seem nagative i have tried to be as honest as possible and feel Kevin Bingham has made a good product that has alot of uses( I used it the other day to go up knock some stubs off come down easy!) but to me it doesnt revolutionise Tree work, but each to their own thanks for reading this essay. Ewan
  6. No i have just changed the cam the whole screw came loose to begin with but will check which screw i have used in the first place i also used both alan keys
  7. Had the same issue mate started a thread to hopefully get some answers.
  8. I got all the shiney new bits for my SJ yesterday but i had an issua of the new holder thingy for the dyneema coming loose i tightend it when it was waited to ensure the spiderjack would engage properly then when i descened the spider jack would not load properlly and i would slip down my line ever so slowly not good, so just wondering if there is any trick to settting it up or if im just being stupid thanks guys Ewan
  9. Velocity all the way it truns the SJ into a different beast!
  10. Dependent on circumstances and species dead euc can be very strong and dry, over here you have to sharpen your saws alot as its so tough it blunts the saws quickly. Check out Joe harris' video of him climbing in the "skeleton forest" see how strong dead euc can be. obviously do what you believe is safe not generalizing that all dead eucs are safe by any means(arse covering complete)
  11. I have no idea why but I really want this rope haha, what do people think it will be like with a Spiderjack?
  12. Tell her you want to show off Woody, You cant look more camp than you already do so no worries.
  13. I know of people who use 8mm rope as an access line for SRT for massive lengths of rope 200m plus when weight really is an issue. I would if i had to use an 8mm climbing line rather use armor prus or another friction cord.
  14. Yeah guilty as charged haha not really ladders dont reach that high!
  15. The term lopper is used alot in australia Tree lopper dangles for two hours after mishap
  16. I have gone to do that also Mark managed to catch myself before I got more than a meter off the ground, climb safe etc..
  17. It was an off cut he had thats all not big enough to do anything massive i think
  18. If thats the yale stuff my friend, (onelab on here) uses it for a light rigging sling for the occasional branch during pruning or to redirect the rigging line for smaller bits.
  19. Odd but they work with it well. Surely they shouldn't be using ropemans as bridge adjusters with the chance of a fall and the ropeman cutting through the bridge?
  20. Why not try Shuttleworth, its in Bedfordshire near the A1 has good facilities and lots of nice trees
  21. Cheers mate heard alot about it but never used it, im liking it not gone straight over to it i find its abit temperamental on static line the hitch doesnt want to grab but on my tachyon works sweet, descends faster than my spiderjack when you really hammer it good for big swings!
  22. Where do you guys get roblon and what does it look like?
  23. Well done mate, Is it seriously a dog lead though yeah.....? for woody? you dont climb anyway do you?
