  1. Hard to do but don't be overly sentimental , hire = 100% tax deductible and it's gets the job done while you demo serval chipper to find out which best suits your needs
  2. There is as tutors minimum height Clarence of 5.2m however the significant word in the sentence is "minimum, by clearing to 5.2 you are not allowing for and subsequent growth , also the 5.2 has to take the likelihood of branches in full leaf and wet conditions into consideration as there could be anything upto a 1.2m loss in height Clarence
  3. Personally I go by the theory of working for what I/ my company needs to earn to cover all of the expenses , wages etc etc and the profit margin that has been factored in which is the same on every job regardless . I'm not going to play the game of dropping my prices just to compete with a firm that may not worry about profit or servicing costs etc . As a sole trader it was the same only I didn't have anywhere near the outgoings so clearly I was cheaper than some . As your coatings change so does your client base . It's a sad fact that most customers in the domestic world are only interested in paying the least possible and not interested in value for money or or a professional service .
  4. I found the plastic shafts take quite a lot of the shock/drive out when hammering them in
  5. Simply drill several holes in the remainder of the wood ( drill as many hole as possible) and then simply pull out with pliers
  6. Did he look like either of these guys ?
  7. I think you will HASS to order one from the uk!! Boom Sorry
  8. Sometimes it can be even better to see why the customer feels the need for a reduction . Often if the reduction is indeed pretty much pointless I will explain why and save them money , it often leads to more work in the future and an proves to the client that you are more than just a contractor after work . I'm not saying that you are in anyway just after work .
  9. As said above it's had to comment without before pics but in interested in why such a seemingly pointless reduction was carried out to keep the council happy ?
  10. How ever it is all dependant on what is required in the particular machines service requirements . Also the safety elements should be checked prior to every use . I think the thing that is being overlooked here is that a guy has asked for a rough cost for an oil and filter change to compare costs simples . For all we know it is a mid service interval oil change .
  11. Yeah you will need to cut the aluminium back to clean metal and then etch prime it .
  12. I think that's a cornwall thing haha , I must say I now actually enjoy challenges of the angry neighbour or disgruntled ignorant member of the public , certainly makes the average strait forward job a little more interesting
  13. I once had the delight of using a Gandini shredder when working for a company in Devon ! Yes it would shred almost anything including construction timber etc it even smashed up concrete blocks and made a fair mess of a scaffold bar (part of the demo ) but it didn't have the power to throw the shred dings from conifer to the back of the Isuzu tipper . It became a nightmare and thankfully the company soon got rid of it .
  14. That looks almost as useful in the tree surgery world as the vw caddy was haha
  15. Nope there really is 2.5 tons there it's just really heavy wet seasoned pine , next winter won't get much colder for who ever buys that little heap of top quality timber
  16. Nice looking climb , where a bouts in Brigham is that ? The last time I saw views of Torbay and Brigham like that was back when we removed a load of trees from the derelict holiday park when I worked for the arb agency
  17. It really is a game of patience and perseverance - locate the hook on the outermost end of the spring into the u shapes retaining ports and then wearing a pair of gloves slowly track the spring back into the recess , but do this slowly keeping one hand on top of the spring that is now back in the recess . It will become easier as more of the spring is located . Hope this helps
  18. Although I'm sure it's obvious but to be accurate you ideally need neatly stacked timber that is as close to the same length as possible .
  19. Cracking looking setup there I bet it chips just as great as it looks
  20. Nope silly me it's obvious !!!!! It's the hard wired ON TOW sigh that almost every landrover should have lol
  21. We had a similar issue on a site last year , the instruction was to clear the 8 hectare site of all scrub vegetation including roughly an acre of woodland and to remove any dead, dying trees from the internal hedges , this was all ok with the LA , however as soon as we started the forest mulcher we had a visit from the angry neighbour insisting that the works were not legal and that we were on his land , this caused a delay in getting the site cleared but never the less justice prevailed when my client returned with his solicitor and a council planner . It turns out that as expected we were working legally however the angry neighbour had been naughty and had been fly tipping no end of waste including dog truffles and various other nasties ! He was then ordered to clear the mess up or find the council carrying out the works and charging him . Sometimes the angry neighbour gets more than he bargained for
  22. Can't make out whether that's the switch for launch control or anti lag lol
  23. It is far easier and cheaper to employ lads that look after your kit if they take little care over the tools that they use to earn a living then what respect do they have for the employer ??
  24. Interesting reviews , I swapped our 4 ms200's and went over too the 540 and so far we have not had a problem with ours . If the saw is stored close to the harness when not n use it does not get beaten from branch to branch and does not end up getting broken - this is seen as good practice and a design feature of the saw . We have not had any experience of the rear AV mount failing, however the saw is not dropped onto its lanyard neither is it yanked on when trapped . If I'm honest if the AV mount vials then I will replace it and move on ! After all it is only an AV mount and should be treated as a replaceable service part
  25. Tail lift and pallet truck would probably work if you are now only selling timber in bulk bags that way for an extra charge where possible you can even put the bag inside a garage etc meaning the logs stay dry
