  1. Why not ? Crane company would put down an aluminium road to drive in on , set up and then use the road to get a lorry down . Load onto the lorry and drive out . This is how the smaller wind turbines are erected where a paved road is not cost effective . Mind you it's costly
  2. Heavy reduction being retrench using fracture pruning or coronet depending on the experience of the climber . I wouldn't get too hung up on BS standards in my opinions lot of it goes out of the window when dealing with veteran trees . But that is only my opinion I would not be comfortable leaving a tree on a roadside with a reduction of say 20% crown volume if the tree is growing down/ naturally retrenching
  3. I would assume it means what it says - heavily reduce the tree to make it safe and less prone to failure , possibly coronet / fracture prune and leave looking as natural as possible
  4. As far as I am aware it is still only a requirement to use a secondary load baring anchor point/ life line if there is a risk of damaging and cutting your primary anchor . Or if you can not achieve a suitable or stable work position without the use of a secondary anchor/lifeline . That being said I have seen occasions where there secondary line has become a bigger danger than working with just the one line .

  7. I think the original post sums it up - " only hire it out to people I can trust" after the first few people that abuse it you will realise you can trust nobody !! If it's not theirs then it's not really a problem if it breaks
  8. Have you considered something like the running gear out of a decent size swing shovel , see I'm fairly sure that they have cornered the market in the most compact build size virus's the hyd power and agilitty
  9. Yeah I agree but I would be a little worried about scoring or cutting into the shaft . Mind you it's a fair call , it's ok if you have a workshop and kitted out with everything u need . I have to say owning bigger kit and being all the way down in cornwall has taught me to do more my self
  10. Without sounding rude I am actually a little concerned that your operating a saw of that size and didn't have a clue what was wrong . A chain run to tight will speed up the demise of a big bar , a poorly or un evenly filed chain will also aid it such a problem due to the chain constantly pulling to one side . In short you need to replace the bar,chain and sprocket and get a decent sharpening kit and use a micrometer to measure the teeth .

  12. We run a landrover 130 quadtech4 which is used for carrying all of our kit plus doubles up as a service van and mobile workshop when out on site but the best bit and most important bit is the apprentices technicals abilities evaluator also known as the furnace and kettle
  13. I was chatting to Alex a few weeks ago and I'm fairly sure that he had said there was a euro five engine in a u1600 , I may be wrong though . It again as you said a 200 hp euro two u1600 is still better than the 160hp we run at the moment although we are looking to mount a hiab on the back and front mount a schliesing so there is question whether or not a bigger mog with more hp would be better again
  14. It's not always about the size timber that you can chip but more a case of the volume you can chip

The problem with wanting to ease your workload is that you will find your self needing more staff which requires more work and in turn this means that often you compromise on pricing to ensure you have the work to keep the men and kit working , it quickly can become a vicious circle . Some love it some hate it , I personally thrive on the challenge and I'm always looking at what's next but it does not always work out
  16. I am looking for 50/50 mixed , 100% hardwood and 100% softwood , first delivery would be ten units to trial and go from there

  19. The 5" schliesing is again a very good chipper . Dot be put off by it brig 5" either , when working for OCS the amenity team had one and it would pee all over any equivalent 6" chipper
  20. Hi guys I am just looking to see if anyone would be interested in sending kiln dried softwood and hardwood down to Cornwall ?? I am looking to supply high quality kiln dried timber as we are getting a growing number of requests for such a product from members of the public who have bought locally firewood that is claimed to be kiln dried but clearly isn't .   22. :thumbup: very wise words indeed . To warrant the investment of another vehicle requires a minimum constrain increase in workload of around 50-60% over your current maximum capacity . Too many people think that being busy 5 days a week calls for another truck,chipper or plant which then actually cuts the workload by half
  23. 180 hp is great but there is no calculation for the added stress that is placed through the drivetrain of bottom end , short term it's great long term it's costly . If it was that great then a u1200 would comes with a180 hp option as standard
