  1. I don't envy you Jon , I had always thought that contractors traded in their machines when they need new tyres for that very reason
  2. As a city and guild assessor I can highly recommend Lyhner Training and all of their Arb/forestry instructors .
  3. Firstly you need to be sponsored by an assessment centre . Once the assessment centre has sent off the paper work you will require a technical evaluation , as long as that is successfully completed you will be offered a place on an assessor training course
  4. Yeah did it years ago when living in Devon , it was ok but the grief never stopped when I wasn't at work . A realisation of the route I could end up going down soon put pay to wanting to do any more door work - SIA sent back
  5. Does anyone know if there is a carving bar / small nosed bar that fits a T540 ?? I have one on an old ms200t that we use for street tree pruning and reductions . But the saw is for sale as we have moved over to running the huskys as a fleet .
  6. Either a Kronos or a foresterie crane on a jake , from what I have seen and used I personally thing the 560 are not overly steady on their feet , and to be fair if you want the tractor guarding I would certainly think about going somewhere other than wilsons
  7. Buy the tractor and get a decent crane fitted like a jake mounted kronos
  8. Pits easy to blame the traveling folk , it's pretty simple - someone sets up with a company name that's similar to another company in the area - end of , this goes on all over the place in Devon you have Devon tree care and Devon tree services , there are three companies down here ( including mine) that trade using the abbreviation "CTS" , who cares if you have a stable client bad and a proven track record for good service and high standards of work then you have nothing to worry about .
  9. I'm afraid this is one of the things that happens , not only this industry but many many others , it's becomes costly and rather long winded to attempt to put a stop to what may only be a similarity in the name due to a geographical location . I have never heard of them but who's to say that they have heard of you ? Look forwards think about what your doing and what your business is doing , those looking over their shoulders often have the least to do
  10. Yep horse meat has nothing on west cornwall pasties , apparently brummy meat Tastes very similar to bacon , although care is taken when choosing meat - no one wearing crocks will be considered lol
  11. Here have a read through it ' you will notice that this is only maintenance , the unit was split into two however the assessments can be carried out together https://www.nptc.org.uk/assets/documents/1af296d3ab5e4743accdae42b41569cd.pdf https://www.nptc.org.uk/assets/documents/abd5ff7cccc147e9aa5156884d54c364.pdf https://www.nptc.org.uk/assets/documents/527766f2bb2d4c42bd8be33c1ce37165.pdf
  12. Sadly here is nothing that can be classed as a tree surgery suppliers down this way , there was a shop in toeing mouth called the big tree ship but not sure if that's still going . What kills anything like this down here is the prices that are charged . Doug Bennett was a strange one either you got what you were looking for or doug tried to sell you a load of stuff you neither needed or wanted lol
  13. Cheers guys , i will give that a try , I'm hoping that they can braze the bottom up as it has worn Thin on the edges which is the main problem but a re core would also be wise
  14. I'm wondering if any of you guys can give me any advice on where I can source a radiator for my mx200 , I have spoken to the main dealer and was given a price of £600+ vat or a choice of sending my radiator to them for them to try and repair . Don't get me wrong they were only to happy to help but £600 seems an awful lot for a very small radiator , in fact I can replace my unimog radiator for less than that. I have searched the inter web and found some similar options but would require me fabricating a new mounting system for it which again make it an expensive job Any advice would be greatly appreciated Cheers Dave
  15. Well as it happens the figures are not available under freedom of information however there was an interesting report compiled by ACPO , pages 11 onwards are of more interest http://www.acpo.police.uk/documents/crime/2013/201303CBA-ANPR.pdf
  16. Great if you actually do a lot of work off road and actually need a landrover but if not then stick to a bog standard tipper , if I'm honest it's not really a comparable choice , although both can be tippers they both have a very different use and other than the common factor of being a tipper there are as different as night and day . Ask your self how often your working off road and how often you would benefit from being able to go off road and how often you actually only need two seats as opposed to three and quickly you would get fed up with having very little room for your grub bags, water proofs etc etc . Once you have done this I would probably suggest going and looking for a transit lol
  17. I think it depends on the level of information you are giving/ asked to give , let's be honest there is quite a varying scale from a tree safety/ hazard report - the management of decaying/ declining trees right through to the more academic 5837 work
  18. I will soon be selling out 54 reg ranger tipper , 160k miles , new head , new gear box new water pump , and about to weld a steel floor into the tipper , the truck is in ok condition for the work it's done
  19. And you really think that will put off the criminals ?? Probably a fair reward for them . If ANPR really was that useful they would be able to reduce the increasing number of ringers on our roads . I'm fairly sure that I had recently read an article on how little information is shared by forces in England and Wales . Panda yes the long term plan is for tax to be applied for on the tinterweb and paid for as a direct debit or in full , the post office are intended to see a phased reduction in in the requirement for the service and it is planned that by 2016 there will be zero DVLA enquiries handled by the post office
  20. However the post office method is being phased out . Any way I wonder how many fleet owners will have a couple vehicles running on the same plates ? According to ANPR the vehicle is taxed
  21. :congrats: I have never understood why the term is applied to what we do . It is not really like what we do has any benefit for the tree in most cases
  22. All in all it's a cackng way for DVLA to gain an average 34 days of road tax revenue from each and every driver that sells a car and buys another second hand car within the same month . I wonder how quickly the theft of number plates will rise come October !
  23. Ever had a problem with your starter motor ? Often the starter motor can develop a fault that messes with the signal from the crank sensor and stops it from starting unless you crank and crank and crank it over
  24. Having asked around various commercial paint suppliers I'm told that it's a sound deadening paint that is sprayed on and then baked , apparently it's not something that's overly simple to re cover unless bead/ sand blasted to bare metal and re finished professionally
