  1. I would urge you not to go down the route of the well known firm offering a power upgrade by means of intercooler and prayed fuel pump , Mercedes didn't offer this as a standard option for a very very good reason , if your u1200 is not man enough then get a bigger more suitable mog , I have recently been speaking to Alex Price about getting more power from my u1600 but have decided to get a newer u1600 with a more efficient euro 5 engine with more bottom end grunt and of course a few extra toys fitted as well . I would highly recommend A.C Price
  2. In fairness they cost very little more to repair than any other chipper on the market , yes they cost more but when you crunch the numbers taking into account , depreciation , useful life span , estimated down time , productivity and then do this with equivalent machines you will see that actually long term they cost less !
  3. If that is the case then how do they out chip every other equivalent chipper on the market and last for years ?
  4. We have the problem of bits getting stuck down the sides but usually feeding a rather large piece in with the crane fixes that haha
  5. I believe that it's important to understand the fundamentals of machinery servicing/ maintenance , too many operators will keep going until it stops rather than be able to identify a small problem and resolve it before it gets to the stage where serious down time in incurred and they are complaining that they done have a machine to operate . He'll I'm with you on the workshop equipment :-)
  6. I have not personally operated one but from what I have seen they seem to be a good chipper , another older chipper that's always worth a look is the kiwi chip
  7. Too many operators are now simply operators and have no idea of where to source seals, bearings etc from let alone be competent enough to fit them .
  8. On other sample of the agent trying to bully the smaller outfit into accepting far less than the going rate . Glad that you stuck to your guns . In future cut out the middle man as others have said
  9. Just hangs one garlic cloves round the end of the chipper Shute and hope the a we bit of simple French culinary engineering fixes it !! Lol
  10. Either Chippers are most likely to be a little on the big side for a small massy
  11. Sounds like the needle roller bearing on the main input shaft has started cutting into the shaft causing play in the box , from memory third is direct with these boxes , you will most probably find that within the next 10-15k miles the synchro's will go in third and fourth causing it to graunch from second into third and third into fourth , from there you have about 10k before you will not be able to keep it in gear in third .
  12. Kernow stu on here did have a Lucas mill that would deal with it , not sure if he goes out milling but worth a try
  13. It will give you plenty of time to source a re conditioned warranties engine from the uk , the heads on rangers are made of recycled milk bottle tops and the dot to mend is not far behind it . Sorry to hear of your pain but speaking from experience that's what owning a ranger is all about !
  14. Rip it up and brim in a mobile tub grinder or green waste shredder , cheaper and a far faster way to deal with rohdie !!
  15. If your worried about weight and it's going on the back of a Massy then I can't see you would carry or put a Jensen or schliesing to its full potential , thought of a junkkari or farmie ? Cheaper , angle fed and the hydraulics are run off of the tractor meaning less weight for a bigger chipper . We have a junkkari that is often on the back of the mog as it feeds very quickly , it's four bladed and great on lots of brushwood
  16. Having used a TP , and various others such as schliesing, Jensen and timber wold (pa haha) I would opt for either the Jensen or schliesing . It does depend totally on how much you intend to use it and how many horses you have to drive it . Personally I would opt for the Jensen A240 or if you really mean it then go for a schliesing , I can assure you that as much as the TP is a good chipper you will find that the Jensen is better again and the schliesing to be even better than the Jensen . But the best advice I can give you is to try them and find out what you prefer
  17. Thanks guys it's appreciated , it has proven that my figures £8-12 were about right , the client confirmed today that we have the job and has added further compartments to the original job spec so it's a win win situation . Once again thank you to the guys who posted their opinions .
  18. If it is anything like the new generation of alleged "work" 4x4's it will be an entire waste of time . Do people honestly believe they can have the best of both worlds ? Diesel prices are dropping which will make it a little easier , we currently can be anywhere in cornwall/ Devon every day , running two land rovers does prove a little costly but I can't moan as this was factored in - this is something that far to many people do not do !
  19. Hi guys just looking for opinions / rough prices for extraction only work . The timber is all at the end of racks or accessible to drive to with ease , all timber is in2.4's and well stacked by cutters . The set down for timber is a maximum of half a mile from furthest timber and the quantity is roughly 550-600 m3 , I have the option to buy all of the timber minus the extraction costs but possibly could put in a price for the timber as it is . Cheers
  20. It depend on what you class as lighting , we all use petzle duo 15 head torches , vehicle mounted 3,600 lumin led flood lights , 2 x durite spot lamps which project a beam I to the tree/part of the tree or if it's a bigger job he have a 3.5 kva set of tower lights . I guess it depends on how much night work you do and how much light you need
  21. Ty , please don't try to substaciate your personal and somewhat ill informed opinions the possible opinions of the former head of arb studies at merrist wood or the HSE , if your asking if we all know better than to believe the majority of the opinions you have aired that sadly on this occasion I would be inclined to say yes , like I previously said - unless you can hand on heart say that you have never broken a rule, law, industry standard or code of practice then I highly doubt you are in any position to preach
  22. It's easy enough to "shout" when you refuse to accept that these things happen , why should the O.P show and sorrow or regret ? It has happened and he has had the "goujons" to shre his experience on here . Is that not sorrow or regret in its self ? . So why show your apprentice or new employe the pictures if it has already been made clear that one handed saw use is forbidden ? .
  23. FFs guys climb off of your moral or alleged professional soap boxes , the guy has posted some pics of an incident that he had whilst working , unless you are squeaky clean and have never ever done a thing that goes against any sort of rule, professional conduct or law then you really are in no position to be so critical . There are many many college students that use the forum as part of education and experience gaining , this is what they need to see ! What happens when it does go wrong or you make a not so wise decision .
  24. A kelsa 305 which is a better , faster and well made equivalent version to the botex 560 will set you back in the region of 20k , fit it on a jake frame for another 9k and you have a versatile multi use crane that can be easily removed from the tractor when it's not needed . There are a wealth of other reasons that this I a good idea but I guess really it depends how much use the crane would get
