  1. ah i remember when metallica used to be cool, they've gone down hill now... nice video! what was the point in topping them there pines though?
  2. bend him back! one of my old 36" dolmar bars is slightly got slightly bent, but i managed to bend him back
  3. didnt watch the video as internet is being really slow... granddad sharpens all his circular saw blade by hand with a big old flat file, he is an ex saw doctor though, going to get him to teach me
  4. i have a jappa one, and it seems to work great, plus it has a screw type splitter on it
  5. run fuel from any station in ours never had a problem, touch wood! but i do run at 25:1, as taught by granddad, hes never had a saw seize, more oil is better, imo 100ml of fuel for 5ltr of petrol is wayyyy to little!
  6. they dont insure under 21's do they? i have a 1984 Land Rover 90 2.5NA, first car, registered in my name and it costs me £200 a month... that was the cheapest i could find, its mad, insurance is always going to be expensive for us first time drivers
  7. this industry seems to be turning into a fashion show
  8. yeah i would rather the 460, only used one a few times but it did seem great! better start saving! the havs on the old 440 ent that bad we run two of them, i can use it all day fine
  9. i doubt it, never used one, but i dont think i would ever get a 441, looks way to technical and too much to go wrong on it you can beat the grunt of an old 044 well thats what i think anyway
  10. i always go for cheap, thats just the way i am, and i have no complaints at all, i never expect the tools to be as good as the expensive range ones, but i buy them to do a purpose and dont abuse them... too much I have a lot of rolson tools and they are great imo axes i have cheap unbranded mauls why spend loads when these work fine? its beyond me, and an oregon felling axe, great bit of kit
  11. AWESOME PICTURES! I posted all the old school ones of mine on here ages ago, dont have any more though, wish the old timers took more pics! letter boxing, it can prevent trees from splitting up and stop the fibers being pulled out of the middle, it is a must in big tree falling, especially if the wood is going for timber, i do it on a lot of trees (look at my avatar ) as that is the way i have been taught by old timers
  12. i do not like the look of the stihl ms441, to much to go wrong with it in my opinion... so if you could get hold of an old 044 or ms440 your problem would be solved, a truely great chainsaw or get a ms460 a hell of a saw
  13. i've read most of the afag guides for college work and i realise that guarding is highly recomended, but in the real world, for small scale contractors the cost and time of installing it is not always possible. i am toying with the idea of just putting some mesh guards on the windows of my leyland, but time and money is against me at the moment
  14. none of our tractors are forestry guarded and dont think they ever will be, although we did smash 2 of the windows on the case in the last month or so, so would have been helpfull, but dont think they will be replaced as it will only happen again
  15. well theres all my photos out the window then
  16. where have you been storing it untill now? i know no other place to store roadkill
  17. posted before all the pics were uploaded it was a very windy on sturday as you can see by the rigging ropes, so was interesting, good job he got all the branches out the day before would hav been a hell of a sail otherwise! (last pic are of the spikes he gave me ) Cheers man! Yeah im loving the work im doing at the moment!
  18. Recently i have got into my climbing abit more (LOVING IT) and now i am loving the look of rigging, i bought a rigging kit off a member on here awhile back, so have been playing with that when i get a chance, its good fun But at the weekend i got the oppurtunity to help rig down a big old ash tree This guys does all the biger trees we get that needs climbing (as we are more the timber contracting side) so i have done a fair bit of work with him before. He had rigged all the branches down the previous day with his mate, so i was just helping with the stem. I loved every minute of it (even though i was only a groundie) It also got me and granddad a job out of it as we are going to mill some of the timber up for them Didnt get many pictures but thought i would share it anyway. Also, got paid and he gave me an old set of spikes
  19. alright!! enough with the PPE issues
  20. it is going to be replanted once the brash has been cleared up, but we are not part of that as far as PPE goes, the saying "cant teach an old dog new tricks" kind of goes for my family yeah we milled some of it into inch boards at the weekend, real nice stuff! umm i think it was work out as 100 tons of ash, in that stack there is some alder and poplar im not sure on the reason behind it, it was orginally planted for pheasnt cover most probably so i think they want to just start again with it, but im not really sure
  21. Heres a job i did with my cousin a while back, i work with him a few days a week and my granddad at the weekends, while squeezing some college in there too my cuz is the one who owns the roadless, david brown and the little mf 35's that some of you may have seen posted on here before, and now hes got this lovely case This was the first proper bit of forestry work we did with it, and it coped very well. This was a 100 ton ash clearfell, some nice size stuff in there, finished the last few big trees the other weekend, as we took the major up there to winch them over. Enjoy the pics (LOTS AND LOTS OF PICS )
  22. all my friends used to skate, i was terrible, now most of them mountain board, and some are frigging awesome, a lot of them are sponsored, again i am terrible at it ahaha, but i go to the comps with them
  23. these pictures might be a good enough review of the lumbermate. We ram masive oak buts through it and it copes fine Also we manage to turn them with our Fordson Major Loader, or a Fordson Major with mounted Hiab, you dont need expensive mill hydraulics
  24. i saw the timberking at the apf and they looked pretty snazzy, we have a norwood lumbermate, and its a bloody brillant bit of kit, would recomend it to anyone, we had ours second hand and never had to fix anything on it, touch wood
