  1. Was on a dead beech in the rain last week - was like climbing a greased pole for the whole day... no fun at all.
  2. Due to one of my squad letting me down with no notice thisafternoon, I require an experienced cutter for Felling/Processing works assisting a harvester in Aberdeenshire for Tuesday and Wednesday this week. (1st & 2nd December) please e-mail [email protected]
  3. hmm sounds nasty... Dislocation injuries can be a real bugger and come back to haunt you even after initial recovery. Hope you're better soon and I wish you a full recovery my friend!
  4. Cant comment from a dads point of view yet stevie, but from a sons point of view, I didnt get any of the experiences you have already given your son - going to work with my dad was an amazing treat and very rare - but I do remember playing with welders, fork lift, pressing buttons, messing about in old cars and generally helping dad out when I was very very young.... I think it's important to give the wee ones a good healthy balance, make time with them whilst working and on the weekends but take them swimming and to the play centre or whatever too.. I think swimming is good for all kids, keeps them fit and it pretty handy in case they ever fall in a pond or loch etc - but isnt it part of the curriculum at school? I think they have to teach kids to swim now.. I hope I get the chance to do all the fun things with my wee one in a few years that you're doing now... i'm looking forward to it already!
  5. BushWear - Outdoor clothing shooting and stalking equipment - think they do them
  6. That's just made my friday night more interesting!!
  7. Very interesting subject here... Depending on how you look at it, it;s not always possible to be two tree lengths from felling activities.... take railway clearance for example, the whole squad, chipper the works is never two tree lengths away from the actual felling - it would just be impractical. The AFAG guidelines are all well and good but they're generic, and more often than not it's easy to just quote them and job done, but sometimes you have to just roll with your own ideas and opinions, cover them in your SSRA and then you have peace of mind that the job is being done your way and not dictated to you by pen pushers.. just MO.
  8. I still think the tongue and groove action on youporn is more useful
  9. Watch out for the greenmech CM220 on ebay also... I had a bid on one on the Isle of Mull last week... when it came to payment time I smelt a rat when he emailed me asking for a moneygram transfer and was going to have the chipper delivered to my address and wouldnt let me pick it up.. Ebay cancelled the auction before I had a chance to report the scamming sod. I see almost straght away there is another CM220 on there. Gutted, and still after a chipper too. You just can't trust anyone on ebay, sadly.
  10. I imagine that cut would be useful for felling across side slopes when you dont want the tree to roll or slip down the slope.. cant seem to think of any other uses for it??
  11. I quite fancy a 36' for my 880 - I think it would compliment the saw nicely as the bars are lightweight and really hard wearing. Not sure who makes the biggest bar in the world, but GB offer a full range right up to 87'!!
  12. Good system of work Jamie... we do the same on big hairy sitka for the harvesters. A contract manager told me a while ago 'You can do it however you want to to it as long as you can justify it in your risk assessment'
  13. Chai Spiced Tea...Cappuchino... wtf?? Bog standard nescafe here!! Bloomin arbos
  14. GB Bars are rumoured to be THE best in the world at the moment...
  15. Do you use your saw without wearing gloves???
  16. I'd get a second opinion if I were you mate, and make sure you always wear gloves for work.. I get rheumatism in my knee sometimes, mostly during winter and on cold damp days, but that was caused years ago by crushing my knee and dislocating my patella - dosent seem to affect climbing or work too much though.. can be painful at the end of the day. Not sure about with hands etc as you are always moving and working with your hands in this game - you're doctor friend may have a very good point but deffinatley get it checked out.
  17. I think if you want to see some propper tongue and groove action it'll have to be a youporn job!!
  18. That's the comission for you. Offer them £11 m3 - If you make your offer official I bet they would mull it over and sell the whole lot.
  19. Thought about it, that's as far as I got.
  20. Probably bought in to the port untreated and paid by the ton and then treated here and sold by the piece..
  21. Our sitka pulp up here goes out by the BOAT load mate!! I believe it's around 6500t per load.
  22. If you've 100 loads sitting at roadside and they've been sitting there for three years then I would say the FC have made a big cock up somewhere allong the line... If I were you, I would contact the fc and ask if you can buy it off them.... offer them a stupid price per ton to clear it, and punt it out as local firewood.
  23. I was always led to believe that the definition of tree surgery was urban forestry.
  24. wow... how many cranes does it take to remove a tree?????!
  25. wow....some major malfunction there.. Would love to read the insurance claim.. ''well, what happend was...''
